They don't appear to have the capacity for that and would it be a risk for Putin to admit it's not going well

ScrollingLeaves · 08/05/2022 19:25

@MMBaranova
Thank you for the band video and the interview with the rock star. I like the Wall song. It is nice they are singing in Ukrainian and not fake American.

A few weeks ago on in this Ukraine thread someone posted very eloquently and amusingly about Putin’s mistaken idea about the sure success of The Special Operation, his outrage that young women are heads is state of Finland and Sweden, about the youth of Ukrainian resistance to Putin in general, and how Putin had probably presumed Zelensky was a push over gay dancer. I wish I could find it. It fits with the idea of the rock star lieutenant.

PestorPeston · 08/05/2022 19:43

I'm not worried about tomorrow because I am not in the Azovstal Steel Plant. I worry about them because they are at incredible risk, I sitting here in the UK am not.

Scoobydoooo99 · 08/05/2022 19:51

It’s awful Isn’t it! I feel so bad for the people
or Ukraine! I just want this to all be over!! I can’t begin to imagine how these people must feel!

MagicFox · 08/05/2022 19:53

I'm about to ask a stupid question that lays bare my ignorance (now being rapidly corrected) about geopolitics. I just read an article about China's investment in their navy and the purchase of a shit ton of warships. Now, all this military spending that is done by China, the US etc in the last few years - is it for defensive or offensive purposes? Is the idea always that they're working towards war, to the acquisition of more land? Domination? I know that everybody is now upping their defence spending and that makes sense but prior to this moment, have the great geopolitical actors always been moving towards war, towards offence rather than defence?

I expect the weapons on display tomorrow will be resin mock ups 😄 they're probably still frantically painting them 🤭

PestorPeston · 08/05/2022 20:23

I'm not trying to be psychic or anything but ... May day ain't gonna look like this.

Unless they have some terracotta soldiers.

Putin dies and goes to hell, but after a while, he is given a day off for good behavior.
So he goes to Moscow, enters a bar, orders a drink, and asks the bartender:
-Is Crimea ours?
-Yes, it is.
-And the Donbas?
-Also ours.
-And Kyiv?
-We got that too.
Satisfied, Putin drinks, and asks:
-Thanks, how much do I owe you?
-5 euros.

PestorPeston · 08/05/2022 20:51

Also, wasn't Putin having surgery this week? Would be a blinder if he was not at parade because he was still recovering.

Even better if his death was announced by him being paraded open coffin. Fantasy, fantasy and the aftermath would probably be messy.

A V for Vendetta mask would be the final touch (Anonymous would be laughing their heads off)

@ScrollingLeaves - I sent db that Twitter thread about the threat to Putin's fragile ego of the strong young women leading the countries adjacent to Russia. Here it is:

https://twitter.com/ukigoni/status/1519685140317941763?s=24&t=plsn1ewinwXVRqmmp_

Add in Zelensky who wrote and starred in a comedy which was anti-corruption and pro-democracy and between them, these women and one man represent just about everything that an aging toxic masculine man with a fragile ego will hate. It’s quite intriguing to see it pointed out.

If it is indeed the case, think about how insecure and threatened Putin is by that. None of them has to do anything to Russia. They just have to exist to be a problem to someone who needs imaginary enemies……despots need imaginary enemies not imaginary friends 😒(because they’ve never had any real friends😖)

Its also interesting how Putin thinks they must be somehow weak too. Yet Zelensky pulls a blinder and shows he has a backbone and Putin doesn't like it. Putin literally wants to pick on girls and the little scrawny tv guy who dances (who must obviously be gay 😒 in Putin’s version of the world)

It'd actually be hilarious if it was a comedy and not what we - or rather the Ukrainians - are having to live through 😖

🤣 A rare laugh inducing comment from these threads!

There is a correlation between the amount of hair dye Bono uses and how much he gets on people's tits.

I think there is a hypothesis here about the effects of hair dye.

Ijsbear · 08/05/2022 21:30

prettybird that's a really good post and really good link

None of them has to do anything to Russia I wonder if that is half his problem? the other half being that he wants to return the world to the state it was in when he was young.

JacquelineCarlyle · 08/05/2022 21:34

Very well put @prettybird - one of the reasons I love this thread is the (potential) insight into what's going on. The theories help me to make sense (in some form) of why it's all happening as otherwise I find it completely unfathomable. (I still find it unfathomable but able to process it a bit better, if that makes sense.)

Thank you to all the posters and praying for Ukraine.

RedToothBrush · 08/05/2022 21:37

toastfiend · 08/05/2022 19:17

I'm not worried.

A nuke against us would be a massive, massive escalation, skipping many other potential layers of escalation, and I just don't think it's probable, and nor do US intelligence at the moment by the sounds of things.

He'll remind us all that he's got nukes and he's willing to use them because that's all he's got and it's part of the Putin playbook, but I don't think we're going out in a fireball tomorrow. If their performance in previous years is anything to go by, though, then some of their kit might...

Put it this way, I'm still writing a work report tonight to have it ready for tomorrow, and I certainly wouldn't be bothering if I thought I was about to be wiped out.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 08/05/2022 21:57

I’m not trying to worry anyone at all because I a
a huge worrier, but how
is everyone feeling of tomorrow I’m shitting my pants he will escalate with nukes against us 😭 can’t work out if I’m being hysterical 🤷‍♀️

I thought all those nukes will be in a big parade tomorrow, showing off how many and how biggly they are. Or do they use duds for the parade ? and if they use duds what else might be duds ? I wonder what the going rate is for dressing up in military uniform in Moscow on the 9th of May 2022 is ?

ScrollingLeaves · 08/05/2022 22:05

@prettybird · 08/05/2022 21:07
Thank you very much for your reminder of what you had said and of that Twitter. Your ideas on that post made a deep impression on me the other week. and I regretted having lost track of it.

ScrollingLeaves · 08/05/2022 22:20

This is horribly worrying if this is reliable information.

But it also says some Russians are trying to help them.

Putin sends Mariupol survivors to remote corners of Russia as investigation reveals network of 66 camps

L1ttledrummergirl · 08/05/2022 22:26

How many of the rescued sailors we saw are going to turn up in tanks?

FrenchBoule · 08/05/2022 22:34

There was a speculation in Polish media that on 9th of May might be the day of attack on Moldova.Hope it’s just speculation.

I was reading a bit of Wikipedia and as one article leads to another I was surprised how many people who criticised him Putin has killed. The leads to the other countries are also scary how everything is entwined.

Hope whatever bastard Putler plans for tomorrow will go tits up.Fingers crossed

@PestorPeston · 08/05/2022 22:36
My fear is tonight Azov.

Yes. And if not tonight soon.

I not sure why no one has come on to this thread today to talk about the long zoom meeting two commanders had with journalists.

It was reported on the BBC site, the FT, and no doubt others. There is a Twitter site with a lot of what they said. It was a long interview.

Another thing is that apparently you hear it repeated that all civilians are out of Avostal Steel works, but these men said there still are some there.

There was some bitterness that Mariupol had never been properly defended over the last 8 years. That they were effectively NATO as NATO had refused certain weapons.

They will not surrender.

ScrollingLeaves, thanks for the link.

I have been horrified about the reports of Ukrainians kidnapped into remote parts of Russia as slave labour. The link is not good news. This is hardly going to make it better but at least the Russians are not so organised as to have prison camps already set up in these remote areas. The link suggests that the Ukrainians can just walk out of their hotels but for the remote areas they are sent to and they have no money or ID Sad. So glad that some Russians to try and help them get out. I would have thought Russians are brainwashed in these remote parts but they have a heart. I wish to war will end soon so that these people can get out and get home. So afraid for the children who are sent there, especially if they are unaccompanied. What a bastard Putin.

prettybird · 08/05/2022 22:55

Not sure all of that was my own words - I think I copied and pasted a lot some of it from the original MN postWink

But it was a wee while ago and I can't remember exactly who wrote what Confused

FrenchBoule · 08/05/2022 23:01

Has anybody came across Christo Grozev? Apparently it’s Bulgarian investigation journalist quite well informed in Russia/Kremlin.
