I sm stuck. Got various words and particular formats of letters and numbers that should help but it's a subject way out my comfort zone and none of the words I know, that I feel should fit, do. Driving me bananas. Today's might be one to let go of and accept defeat.

PurpleDrain · 05/05/2022 09:27

Same breathmiller I have a lot of relevant words and know I’m in the right area but don’t think I’ll get there if even you lot with degrees struggled.
I don’t even have much of a sentence to Google with.

WheelofLife · 05/05/2022 09:48

I gave up and googled around the subject area but even that took forever!!!! Not a word that I use….

PollyannaWhittier · 05/05/2022 10:09

@PurpleDrain Once I scrolled back to the top after filling in lots of technical bits there was actually quite a big clue using simple words near the top of the article.
(I hope that's an acceptable hint to give on the thread !)

MissedItByThisMuch · 05/05/2022 11:59

@Breathmiller @PurpleDrain if it’s not your area you will need to Google - it’s not an everyday word for anyone who doesn’t have specific knowledge of the topic. I do and I struggled.

SoupDragon · 05/05/2022 12:04

I googled two rather unhelpful phrases plus a word from the first paragraph which got me the answer. There is no way I would have got it without.

OhRiRi · 05/05/2022 12:33

Well, the prize prat award goes to...

I always start with a skim through and I clocked the chemical formula straight away and knew what it was. I should have had it within 10 guesses, this is my area... instead it took me 155 and a lot of head scratching because I didn't think to guess the singular form rather than the plural 🤦‍♀️

I solved today's Redactle (#28) in 155 guesses with an accuracy of 40.00%. Played at www.redactle.com/

This is why I have the option set to auto fill in single/plurals!

I am googling like mad and still no further forward. 😆

Grumpysister · 05/05/2022 13:34

Had to Google today - I am absolutely not a scientist. When does it renew by the way? Seems to be some time in the late afternoon rather than midnight (am in UK).

blardyblahblah · 05/05/2022 13:50

5pm Grumpy

Grumpysister · 05/05/2022 14:17

Thank you Smile

Breathmiller · 05/05/2022 14:55

I had to get dh and DS involved. Ds is a boffin and he got it. I'm just glad it's over and I can get on with my life again.

Cooroo · 05/05/2022 16:36

I solved today's Redactle (#28) in 333 guesses with an accuracy of 34.23%.

Half an hour to spare! I got the general area quite early but know nothing about it.

Enjoyed changing alphabets on my phone for a bit of extra fun though hardly helpful.

SleeplessInSemantle · 05/05/2022 17:02

What was it?? Today was worse than yesterday 🤣🤣

User12398712 · 05/05/2022 17:09

Aaargh....can I rant about monosaccharide now!

I spent forever on a completely wrong track of organic chemistry rather than biochemistry, I was thinking aldehydes, ketones, benzene-like compounds. I'd even drawn pictures of what it would like. With hindsight, I got a hit on carbohydrate earlier on and nothing on hydrocarbon which should really have sounded alarm bells!

Once I finally put in sugar, I should have got it fairly quickly but it took me another 20 or so guesses as I managed to type in monsaccharide. I couldn't understand how the article started monosaccharides... but it wasn't in the title.

alloutofcareunits · 05/05/2022 17:11

Congratulations, you solved Redactle #29!
• The answer was:
• You solved it in 35 guesses
• Your accuracy was 57.14%
• You have solved 3 consecutive Redactles

I'm so happy 😁

BowerOfBramble · 05/05/2022 17:11

Genuinely troubled by the speed (not number of guesses) with which I got this one.

I solved today's Redactle (#29) in 144 guesses with an accuracy of 34.72%. Globally, 13 players have solved today's Redactle so far.

At least you know what these things are! Most of us mere mortals were just sitting here going UH???? I had to input the whole alphabet individually and start googling formulae and even then... took ages.

AlisonDonut · 05/05/2022 17:15

I've been ill today, I'd never have got that if that's all I'd done all day as I abandoned it quite early on.

InMySpareTime · 05/05/2022 17:16

I solved today's Redactle (#29) in 77 guesses with an accuracy of 45.45%. Played at www.redactle.com/

A little distressed about how quickly and easily I got that one.

Yesterday, I got most of it and looked up sugar on Wikipedia to find out which one was the title.

BIWI · 05/05/2022 17:18

FFS!!

Given everything I bang on about here, you'd have thought I'd have got that sooner!

I got #28 in 200 guesses with an accuracy of 33.00%

I'm beginning to realise that the first paragraph is really the most essential - later ones tend to get so technical that they can often send you off down weird rabbit holes.

ShortKipper · 05/05/2022 17:25

Got today's in 73, my first successful attempt.

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 05/05/2022 17:27

I solved today's Redactle (#29) in 78 guesses with an accuracy of 44.87%. Played at www.redactle.com/

Today’s one was actually enjoyable unlike yesterday’s.
