Yes I'm listening (and shaking in my bed 🙁)

Trent Telenko was talking about his conviction that this will end in Putin's removal (internally) by the end of this year. He appears physically weakened and the sharks are circling, was Telenko's take.

Others are now contributing various questions and perspectives.

(I realise you're listening but others might read this in the morning)

BreadInCaptivity · 29/04/2022 03:05

It's a bit frustrating as I don't agree with Trent's political assessments.

I think he's good on logistics but not geopolitical understanding.

It's quite a US dominated discussion and it demonstrates a lack of Russian understanding.

baroqueandblue · 29/04/2022 03:08

I wondered about that. It's all opinion at the end of the day I guess. The guy just now talking about Kamil Galeev's theory that this all might result in Russia breaking up into separate states... I hadn't heard that before and it sounds very dangerous.

BreadInCaptivity · 29/04/2022 03:15

Agree....I need to go back to bed so will sign of now

baroqueandblue · 29/04/2022 03:21

Oh me too, just closed Twitter!

Sleep well 🤞

Thanks Magic and everyone who contributes. It’s still my go-to daily thread. I don’t say much, but I really appreciate it. As do many others, I’m sure.

Agree. He's said a few things relating to politics in Europe which I've been a bit hmmm about because they show a real lack of understanding about how European and US values differ. (He clearly doesn't get European ideas about socialism and healthcare / social provision in a very classically American way which just doesn't translate to understanding European politics)

I seriously doubt his understanding of Russian politics is much better.

However I am inclined to think Putin’s position is more fragile than many think though he is likely to be harder than Boris Johnson to shift.

We're sending 8000 troops to Eastern Europe. Was that expected?

elephantmarchingin · 29/04/2022 07:36

Does anyone know what will happen re sky news saying that 2 British Nationals working on humanitarian relief have been captured?

Alwayscheerful · 29/04/2022 07:37

8000 trips to Europe along with NATO troops.

Could this be to 'swap' with the ones already out there?

Ah it's been planned they've just upped numbers to show solidarity 'The training has been planned for some time, but the scale of the exercises has been ramped up since the invasion of Ukraine.'

Scoobydoooo99 · 29/04/2022 07:42

i think that similar to what we already doing, we already have troops on borders and also equipment ect..
when I first read that I thought it said we are sending 8000 troops to Ukraine! I was like oh
good god! However it says Eastern Europe! 8000 isn’t many if they are spread over various countries, I think it’s just showing strength

Igotjelly · 29/04/2022 07:44

Reports all over the morning news of some sort of operation today to rescue those trapped in the steel plant. Wonder what that’s likely to look like. Given Mariupol is entirely in Russian hands other than that area it surely will be unsuccessful without Russian cooperation?

Good morning all.
I read that Scott Sibley's daughter has a rare blood disease. I have not found it anywhere online but if anyone comes across a treatment donation page could they post it here or PM me please. I would like to make a donation.

I think this was a huge fear during the 1990s and one of the motives behind propelling Putin and his ex-KGB colleagues/henchmen to the Presidency.

Me too. I've sent it to my db to see what he and his dw (who is Ukrainian) think.

OwlsDance · 29/04/2022 08:30

I love Galeev's analysis. I've read most of that monstrous thread he's put together, comprising of different topics.

Was watching one of Russian independent news channels yesterday, and they had Mihailo Podolyak giving interview. He's so eloquent, I might have a bit of a crush 😳🙈

Really makes the point about how paranoid and deluded the murdering old spy is. The part about "'the Ukraine doesn't exist' of their imagination" makes me think of Borges for some reason. Also reinforces the sense that, given his way, he wouldn't stop until the whole of Europe was 'Russian'.

I remember he got pissy, when Condoleezza Rice was appointed by all accounts. He took it as a personal insult that a woman was appointed and he had to deal with.

It also explains a lot about why he got on so well with someone who was into conspiracy theories and grabbed women by the pussy.
