In the light of the hefty current backlog of processing passport applications, I thought it might be informative to start a thread for keeping an eye on other people's timelines for the applications for and renewal of UK passports. Personally, I'm hoping for reassurance at best, or a grim-faced reality check at worst.
I'll start. How about this format:
Type of passport requested: 2x DC UK renewals
Date of application: 18th of April
Method: Check and Send at local post office
Anyone want to add their stats?

Applied 28 April.

Old passport Arrived Durham branch 3 May.

Still not showing as having arrived 15 May.

16 May: text to say they'd received old passport.

17 May: text to say new passport on way

18 May: passport arrived.

Child's renewal.

So 20 days start to finish inc a bank holiday. Pretty impressive actually.

Shmanmonet · 23/05/2022 02:19

2 x child passport renewals just received back 7.5 weeks
Phew

EveSix · 23/05/2022 10:13

Urgh.
Guilt-tripped off the phone by automated message impressing upon me the importance of not calling them unless I am travelling in the next two weeks, leaving phone adviser time available to those who really need it.

Read on Twitter that the best thing to do is to email, but I've no idea which passport office has my DC's applications. Perhaps I'll email all the offices!

It seems it was a huge mistake to use the Post Office Check and Send service, as you don't get automatic updates and it seems to take longer. I thought I was being helpful!

I've now seen on another discussion a poster who was contacted by the Passport Office with a request to send in a birth certificate for a renewal. I took my DC's birth certificates along to the Post Office, assuming I'd need to send them but was told I didn't need to send them as I was applying for renewals, so squirming now, wondering wtf...

Passport application submitted online 12th May, old one posted off to Corby 13th May. DH has confirmation that it arrived from Royal Mail but nothing back from them yet to say it's there.............due to fly 6th July 🙏. Slightly cheered by the positive outcomes on this thread!

EveSix · 23/05/2022 11:48

Best of luck, MrsW!

One thing that is concerning me about this "10 week" time bracket is that....the passport offices seem to be using their OWN 10 week criteria .

Is it 10 weeks from application...

10 weeks from them receiving it ...which is 2 weeks from actual royal mail delivery...

10 weeks from approved to printing stadge .

If they need more documents from me ...which I have...it could delay it even further .

Mine was change of name
I sent old passport, marriage cert.
And council tax bill.

The only other thing I have to show I use my married name is bank statements, which I had to order.

I could give them my NI number if they want ?

EveSix · 23/05/2022 13:30

Eeek, Bizzey, I know.
Those 10 weeks... various online timeline trackers seem to indicate waiting times going down, but increasingly, it looks as if more recent applications are being processed sooner, possibly for this very purpose; to make it appear that waiting times are decreasing. Cynical.
I'm scared it'll drag on and that they'll request documents later, further holding up the process.

DP has just done an adult renewal which went to Durham.
Sent 28th April
Approved 14th May
Printed 17th May
Arrived 18th May.
I was pretty impressed with 3 weeks.

DottyLittleRainbow · 23/05/2022 14:01

I can’t believe it’s so variable. Some people who applied a month after us have received passports and we are still waiting for my DC renewal after applying on 3/4. 3 weeks after we applied they asked for my birth cert for no reason (as it’s a renewal and in have a valid passport myself) - this was delivered to them over 2 weeks ago and not even logged as received but I’ve been chased for it by text, email and post. We need the passport for a wedding in June 😭 can’t get through to anyone on the phone to clarify why the need the cert or whether they actually have it.

bizzey · 23/05/2022 14:03

@EveSix I think they will want our blood next !

EveSix · 23/05/2022 18:08

Yay, Dream, that is encouraging! What kind of application did your husband submit -digital online or paper?
Oh Dotty, that's a nail-biter! I'm so sorry you and your family are in this situation too. Fingers crossed for you.
People must be going nuts all over the country.

2 x kids renewals

Application done 4th May. New passports received 15th May.

SSDDagain · 23/05/2022 21:30

Applied online 5th May.
Sent old passport back 9th May
Old passport received notification 11th May
Passport approved 14th May
Passport printed 16th May
Passport arrived 18th May

So 13 days all In.

Adult renewal, Bootle passport office

ChewtonBunny · 23/05/2022 21:37

Ds2 (16) passport renewal

11 days start to finish

All done online

V impressed!

EveSix · 23/05/2022 21:39

Phew, MrsW! What a relief.
I do feel for the people slogging it out in the passport processing centres, they must be under immense pressure to meet their productivity targets, and probably acutely aware of the desperate state many applicants now find themselves in. Despite reading articles about the delays, I've yet to see even an anonymous civil servant comment on what is happening. Must be so frustrating not to be able to explain to the public but to be compelled to keep the corporate front up. Sending them encouragement and good vibes!

Well we are now 10 weeks from applying for DS's first adult passport, done online so can track it. Nothing.

Did the online chat last weekend and they couldnt tell me anything new except try again in 2 weeks and can still fast track if needed urgently. DS needs his passport in a month as he has end of school plans with his friends.

EveSix · 23/05/2022 21:46

Aiai, SSDD and Chewton, this is both encouraging -congratulations- and disconcerting in equal measure, given that it clearly indicates that applications are not processed in the order they are received -by a long shot. I daren't even look at Twitter anymore; people have been waiting for months and months.

Did you all submit digital online applications?

OP posts:
EveSix · 23/05/2022 21:50

Hey Peri (great name), that's so annoying. But it disproves my theory that digital applications are favoured.
I've not come across an online chat function; where can one access that?

If you do the Webchat, if you get an ambiguous hold message then you arent waiting. You are only on the waiting list to be connected if you get a message that says that.
