In the light of the hefty current backlog of processing passport applications, I thought it might be informative to start a thread for keeping an eye on other people's timelines for the applications for and renewal of UK passports. Personally, I'm hoping for reassurance at best, or a grim-faced reality check at worst.
I'll start. How about this format:
Type of passport requested: 2x DC UK renewals
Date of application: 18th of April
Method: Check and Send at local post office
Anyone want to add their stats?

Type of passport requested: 1 x adult UK renewals
Date of application: 28th March
Method: Online application including using the online photo code from an approved booth rather than uploading a photo
Date application approved: 7th April
Date printed: 13th April
Date received: 19th April

3 weeks and 1 day from start to finish. 😀

I'm so glad I started this thread. Some encouraging responses!
I used Post Office Check and Send, so know there will be no snags with the paperwork, just the processing.
We're travelling 3rd week in July, which is 2 weeks after the 10 week point, so am going to be optimistic. It's just very unsettling to see the stories of applicants who have waited for ages and nearing their departure dates.
I looked at the Twitter link and followed a link to their published 'average processing times' for various types of applications. They were around 42 days on April 25th, but data was compiled based on self-reporting by Twitter users. I did wonder whether those figures were not necessarily representative of all applications on account of who is reporting, i.e. people who are experiencing long delays in the processing of their applications and so interacting with a Twitter account set up for this very purpose.

Mate of mine. Change of name as married. 10 weeks! Had to move holiday by a month. It came a week after original holiday started.

dementedpixie · 29/04/2022 05:41

Online is supposed to be faster (and cheaper) than doing a paper application

Ohbuggeritsme · 29/04/2022 06:28

1 x child renewal
Sent in 13th April
Received message yesterday to say it was printed and will be sent out ina few days
Quite impressed so far

Gufo · 29/04/2022 06:54

Not got the exact date but from online application to arrival in 2-3 weeks in April for a child and adult renewal.

doradoo · 29/04/2022 06:56

Type: overseas child renewal - online
Applied: 25 February
Docs received: 9 March
Photo Rejected: 26 March
Applications Approved: 30 March
Docs received back: 5 April
New Passport rec'd: 11April

When I applied I was told it would take 11 weeks, so pleasantly surprised by a six week turnaround.

SantiagoSky · 29/04/2022 13:31

Why are the passports for a family all processed separately? This way there are more holidays in danger compared to keeping them together.

DieSchottin93 · 29/04/2022 13:55

x1 adult renewal
Applied online 26th April
Old passport received 28th April according to Royal Mail tracking but waiting for Passport Office to update their end

I'm not flying til end of June but it's only a domestic flight anyway so have driving license as back up, I'm more concerned about my tickets for the concert I am travelling for to arrive! 😄

Brizzle1991 · 29/04/2022 14:16

Did online renewal for child on 21/4 then sent old passport in. Today (29/4) it has been approved and new one now being printed. Amazing. This was the Bootle passport office I think

Ohbuggeritsme · 29/04/2022 14:45

@DieSchottin93 I think it was a good 4-5 days before the tracking updated to say the old passport had been received once it had, I had DD's new passport within a week x

DieSchottin93 · 29/04/2022 16:03

@Ohbuggeritsme that's good to hear, hoping mine will be the same, mine is just a straightforward renewal (no name changes or anything so no additional documents to be sent) so hoping it won't take too long 🤞

sueelleker · 29/04/2022 16:27

Type of passport requested: 1x Adult UK renewal

Still waiting.

Chohlin654 · 29/04/2022 21:39

Applied for adult renewal last Sunday, old passport posted 1st class Monday, received new passport today. 5 days total!

Bootle office

bizzey · 29/04/2022 21:43

So weird all these different timings .
It took 2 weeks for our 3 passports to be acknowledged

bizzey · 29/04/2022 21:47

Ahhhh..!!!
Sorry...

As I was saying.

2 weeks to be acknowledged.
1 passport arrived , the other should be arriving tomorrow ( if TNT deliver on Saturdays ? )
If not Tuesday

My passport with surname change is still at "old passport received " bit of update .

Will be 3 weeks on Tuesday.

Bootle and Durham.

Mine is Bootle as well .

Therira · 29/04/2022 21:53

Renewals took about 3/4 weeks here.

Our daughters 1st passport took 8 weeks in total. We received it on Wednesday. Did them all online. Still waiting on her documents to be returned.

Changes17 · 29/04/2022 21:56

1 child passport (renewal)
Requested March 20 online
Passport picture (taken on phone) verified next day by email
Passport delivered April 19
Was very easy

bizzey · 29/04/2022 21:58

Bees upthread said it is taking months for documents to be returned.

Shitzngiggles · 29/04/2022 22:03

Does anyone know if replacement passports (replacing a lost one) are taking longer or not as long as a renewal. Thank you.

chocolateoranges33 · 29/04/2022 22:07
