In the light of the hefty current backlog of processing passport applications, I thought it might be informative to start a thread for keeping an eye on other people's timelines for the applications for and renewal of UK passports. Personally, I'm hoping for reassurance at best, or a grim-faced reality check at worst.
I'll start. How about this format:
Type of passport requested: 2x DC UK renewals
Date of application: 18th of April
Method: Check and Send at local post office
Anyone want to add their stats?

@HalleLouja how did it go? I have my fingers crossed for you

HalleLouja · 18/05/2022 03:33

@OrangeBall they couldn’t process my passport as I had one in the system.

They used to allow people to cancel them on the day, I believe. But now its so busy I wasn’t allowed to do that.

My husband phoned up the main line and spoke to someone in the progress team who said they are basically phoning people who need upgrades 48 before they fly so we should get a call on Thursday. 🤞

mrssunshinexxx · 18/05/2022 04:08

Just sent two first Childrens / baby passports via online I didn't send documents in any special way just normal post it's been over a fortnight and I'm paranoid am I the only one who hasn't sent recorded ??

KobaniDaughters · 18/05/2022 04:15

We just applied online from abroad and once I finally took a photo they accepted we had it back within 2 weeks (Childs renewal)

OrangeBall · 18/05/2022 07:10

@HalleLouja so frustrating but at least you know where you stand. Can you pick it up on Thursday if needed? 48 hours is a short time before the flight :(

HalleLouja · 18/05/2022 07:20

@OrangeBall we can’t go tomorrow so will need to go on Friday. Lets hope we don’t need to and that it gets resolved.

HalleLouja · 18/05/2022 07:21

@mrssunshinexxx they are taking ages to upload documents at the moment.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 18/05/2022 07:35

1 x child renewal from abroad
Applied for online on 17 May 2022
Old passport to be sent to Durham
Waiting time quoted as 11 weeks

OrangeBall · 18/05/2022 07:39

Just for timelines purposes, I had a fast track appointment last Thursday in London. Passport arrived this morning (Wednesday). Straight forward adult renewal. My old passport which has heaps of visas in it wasn't returned with the new one so I expect that may only arrive in 10 weeks but beggars can't be choosers!

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 18/05/2022 07:51

15th May - started checking for online fast track application slots, constant refreshes until…
17th May - slots available at 8:30, applied
24th May - first available pickup dates, Newport or Belfast only
30th May - pickup appointment
Fingers crossed

It'll be 7 weeks tomorrow. 9 weeks if you count having to wait for the VFS appointment to just be able to submit the documents. Definitely no prioritization of overseas applications.
3 straightforward renewals (2 x child, 1 x adult), all documents already checked by VFS.
I've heard nothing other than confirmation that the application was sent on 30/3. We have just over 6 weeks until we need to travel....
I'm just so relieved kids are dual nationals and visas for our current country are in the other passport otherwise we'd be royally screwed if the passports didn't come on time.

And just got an email that the adult renewal is ready for pick up (you have to go in and physically get it). 7 weeks from submitting the documents, 9 weeks from what we first started the process.
Now waiting for the 2 x child renewals! 6 weeks until we go away so I'm cautiously optimistic now.

mrssunshinexxx · 18/05/2022 11:21

@HalleLouja woo had confirmation they received babies today and I sent hers a week before toddlers

OrangeBall · 19/05/2022 06:14

@HalleLouja so hope you get the call today!

Mydogisagentleman · 19/05/2022 08:49

My adult renewal took around 2 weeks moline service. Quite a surprise to get a navy one back.
DH two months and nothing. His uk one had expired and he chose to renew it so he could get his driving license more easily.
He also has an Irish one and this has caused issues apparently. He didn’t realise that he needed to send that too .

@HalleLouja so hope you get the call today!

Call received and I get to collect the passport tomorrow. Thanks for the best wishes. It was pretty painless in the end.

OrangeBall · 19/05/2022 19:24

Wow great news, I'm so pleased for you @HalleLouja . Hope you can look forward to your holiday now!

HalleLouja · 19/05/2022 20:31

Ok, applied 3rd April for a lost passport.

Went to processing 7th April.

14th May found out lost passport reference hadn’t been put on my record after having a webchat. That got sorted.

19th May got upgraded (after emailing a week ago) and collect passport tomorrow.

We did phone and email a lot but not sure if that helped.

Less than 2 weeks for renewal of a child passport at Bootle office. Although TNT just posted the passport through the door - I thought I'd have to sign for it!

Meant to say this was an online application and we took the picture ourselves.

Child's First - Online application - Bootle office

Flying in October so hoping there is plenty of time yet.

Application submitted: 6 May
Identity confirmed: 11 May
Birth Certificate sent 1st class recorded: 13 May
Royal Mail tracking showing as delivered and signed for: 16 May

Birth certificate is not showing as received on the gov website tracking yet (but the website states that there can be a delay in the tracking being updated their end).

Photo taken on my phone, put through an online paid for service that checks it and marked as 'good' on gov website.

EveSix · 20/05/2022 20:04

I'm starting to find it a bit disconcerting to see applications made since my two straightforward child renewal applications via Post Office Check & Send now going through in a couple of weeks (I'm on week 5).
I decided to bite the bullet and try the tracking facility for Post Office Check & Send applications on the .gov website on Monday, inputting barcode number etc, being told to expect an update via email, but have heard nothing back.
Starting to feel like it might be time to make a few phone calls?
Urgh.

I did a digital 1 adult and 1 child renewal at the PO on April 25th, both went to Peterborough, had both passports in my hand on Monday this week (16th may). The longest part was waiting for them to receive the documents ( 2 weeks) - took 3 or 4 days after that for them to be approved, printed and sent.

deffo make phone calls… hopefully they haven’t done anything dreadful like decide to speed up processing for newer applications and put the rest in a cupboard…

hope yours move along quickly.

bizzey · 21/05/2022 13:04

@EveSix I check your opening post and realized...I am technically one week ahead of you with our submissions. (and it looks like we are going away at the same time !!)

2x expired child to adults are back .
2 1/2. ..and 3 weeks .

Mine is still only saying recieved !!

Mine was a change if surname.
I sent 2 supporting documents as well.

Bootle for me .
Getting twitchy now !!

bizzey · 21/05/2022 13:06

I did try ringing...got through..he said I will put you through to another department...and promptly got cut off !!!

Is the passport number even free ?

EveSix · 22/05/2022 17:30

Thank you, Bizzey.
Just seen scary Times article stating waiting times are due to increase. I've blocked out tomorrow to hang on the phone if necessary, at least to get an update, as I've not heard a peep yet, not even where the applications have been sent. I'll let y'all know how it goes...
