In the light of the hefty current backlog of processing passport applications, I thought it might be informative to start a thread for keeping an eye on other people's timelines for the applications for and renewal of UK passports. Personally, I'm hoping for reassurance at best, or a grim-faced reality check at worst.
I'll start. How about this format:
Type of passport requested: 2x DC UK renewals
Date of application: 18th of April
Method: Check and Send at local post office
Anyone want to add their stats?

Aiai, SSDD and Chewton, this is both encouraging -congratulations- and disconcerting in equal measure, given that it clearly indicates that applications are not processed in the order they are received -by a long shot. I daren't even look at Twitter anymore; people have been waiting for months and months.

Did you all submit digital online applications?

Hi @EveSix
In my case yes was a digital application for a straightforward renewal of a recently expired adult passport.
Need to get DD's passport sorted out next month, so will report back if there's any issues there. That will be a first passport, wanted both mine and DP's done before applying so we didn't have to send as many supporting documents.

EveSix · 24/05/2022 05:35

Thanks, SSDD, and best of luck with your DD's passport.

Child renewal: Sent 9th May
Confirmed received old passport: 23rd May
Received date: TBC
Holiday date: 15th August

DottyLittleRainbow · 24/05/2022 22:09

I’m so glad people are having success stories it gives me hope!!

I just can’t believe they are processing much newer applications before older outstanding ones from 6 weeks ago. There’s literally no order to whatever they are doing. It’s literally like passport roulette and utterly unacceptable.

Fifi0102 · 24/05/2022 22:19

Adult Renewal March 22nd application
Sent docs on 2nd April
Confirmed documents sent 12th May
Application approved 12 th May
Passport printed 13h May
Passport delivered 16th May

Fifi0102 · 24/05/2022 22:21

I did mine online I heard post office check and send is taking longer.

EveSix · 24/05/2022 22:30

Yes, Fifi, I think you're right which is galling. When I applied, the advice was that Post Office Check & Send was usually quicker. Ho hum.
All I want is an update. No, scratch that careful what you wish for I want two actual passports.

Gah, this thread is worrying me!

I applied online for DS new passport on 15 May and sent supporting documents by registered mail the next day. They have arrived, according to the Royal Mail, but don’t appear yet on the application tracker, which still says ‘send your documents’.

We adopted DS and this is a passport in his new name, so a little bit complicated.

We fly on 23 July and am now slightly regretting not just keeping his old passport in his wrong name. It’s a bit dodgy so was keen to have the ‘right’ one but this could mean not getting away at all!

EveSix · 24/05/2022 23:43

Oh no, Rain. Not being able to access reliable tracking data is disconcerting.
There is another thread running currently especially for positive passport stories which is a bit more upbeat 😉Wishing you all the best!

The post office service has never been good. Its a waste of money and i have heard them give bad advice. Even on their website they said you need 6 months on your passport for eu when everywhere else was saying 3 months.
It is so much quicker and easier to do it online nowadays

Purplerunner · 25/05/2022 07:01

I applied online for two child's first passports at the start of March. They finally arrived on Friday and Saturday which was 11 weeks after the applications were made. Showed as "being processed" on 4th April and didn't update to "being printed" until mid-May. Bootle office and documents have also now been returned. Fly out on Tuesday so was a bit closer than I'd have liked!

Rainallnight · 25/05/2022 08:20

Agh @EveSix I thought someone was going to tell me it was normal to have a bit of a lag.

anyone else with experience of sending supporting documentation?

My documents were recorded as signed for by Royal Mail on 16 May - HMPO still have not updated their tracker so it's still telling me to send my documents. I have heard it can take 3 weeks to update

Ohbuggeritsme · 25/05/2022 10:10

@Rainallnight it took about a week or so for the tracker to update from send in your documents to documents received for me. After that it moved quite quickly and I got my DD's passport within the week x

prettybird · 25/05/2022 12:56

BJ tried to claim today in PMQs that passports were being processed in 4-6 weeks and that no one was having to miss out on holidays ShockAngry

Child's First - Online application - Bootle office

Flying in October so hoping there is plenty of time yet.

Application submitted: 6 May
Identity confirmed: 11 May
Birth Certificate sent 1st class recorded: 13 May
Royal Mail tracking showing as delivered and signed for: 16 May

Birth certificate is not showing as received on the gov website tracking yet (but the website states that there can be a delay in the tracking being updated their end).

Photo taken on my phone, put through an online paid for service that checks it and marked as 'good' on gov website.

Updating to say that HM Passport have marked the documents as received, today, 25 May 2022

mrssunshinexxx · 25/05/2022 15:24

How long has it taken peoples documents to be received please ? X

Mine were posted on 13th, signed for on 16th and my HMPO tracking was updated to documents received today (so 12 days)

prettybird · 25/05/2022 15:34

My dh's documents (ie old passport) were sent on 3 May, arrived on 4 May, acknowledged as having arrived on 8 May, status changed to "processing" on 9 May.

No change since then Sad

Fortunately we don't have any overseas travel planned yet. I just have to hope that my aunt in South Africa doesn't go downhill as she is 82 with a number of ongoing health conditions.

Rainallnight · 25/05/2022 15:36

That’s really helpful @AberBaby. Mine were signed for on the 19th, so a couple of days to go if they’re all running with the same lag.

prettybird · 25/05/2022 15:36

This contrasts with ds' renewal (1st adult) which was about 2 weeks from posting old passport to receipt of new passport Shock

Ds' renewal was processed at Bootle and dh's is being done or not Wink in Belfast.

willowstar · 26/05/2022 12:50

I am on tenterhooks. We are meant to fly on Monday. We submitted an application to renew my daughter's passport on May 2nd. The tracker said that her old one was received on the 9th and on the 20th the status was updated to say that it is being processed. I have tried to contact the passport service via the online chat but have not got anywhere with it. I need to try to speak to someone but I am in meetings all day. Will try tonight. I had tried to fast track it but every time I checked the website it said that no appointments were available so I just had to bite the bullet and submit the application online.

It is looking very likely that we are going to have to cancel 🙁

kirkandpetal · 26/05/2022 14:09

Child renewal: Completed online 14th May
Old passport sent to Peterborough: 16th May
PO delivered old passport: 17thMay
Confirmed received old passport: 25th May (8 days after receiving)
Received date: TBC
Holiday date: none planned!

EveSix · 26/05/2022 20:03

Oh, Willow, that sounds so stressful.
I managed to get through to someone at an office last night who told me not to worry: if, in 6 weeks, when I'm due to travel, my DC's renewals still haven't come through, I can apparently just "go to Durham". Having looked at my chocka work diary for the days prior to travel, going to Durham, which is 5 hours away, is a big ask...
Do you know which office is handling your application? You could email them directly as you're within the critical timeframe?
Although not for the faint hearted, there is a FB group called Passport Chaos 2022 which has some good advice (but also some gut-wrenching tales of missed deadlines and flights).
Keeping everything crossed for you!

Having just signposted to a FB group, I was just thinking earlier how nice MN is, where not everyone is posting about their passport applications. I had to step away from Twitter and FB as although there are useful advice to be had, it can compound stress, seeing so many applicants totally stranded for months without getting any closer to getting their passport applications processed and printed.
