In the light of the hefty current backlog of processing passport applications, I thought it might be informative to start a thread for keeping an eye on other people's timelines for the applications for and renewal of UK passports. Personally, I'm hoping for reassurance at best, or a grim-faced reality check at worst.
I'll start. How about this format:
Type of passport requested: 2x DC UK renewals
Date of application: 18th of April
Method: Check and Send at local post office
Anyone want to add their stats?

My DH did an online renewal last week and it came yesterday, I would say it took a week

SmugOldBag · 06/05/2022 07:00

Type - Adult renewal from NZ posted to Durham Passport Office
Date Applied - 10th April
Method - Online
Passport received today 6th May
Time taken to receive new passport - 4 weeks including what is usually 10 days each way Mail time to NZ.

This is so infuriating to read (although excellent for you!).

I have a passport sitting in Durham. It’s been there for 8weeks. They’re apparently working in date order…but clearly not since my has been there since mid March and they’ve successfully processed on from
mid April!

heidipi · 06/05/2022 10:26

From what I've read, it seems that usually if the application goes through with no queries or extra info needed (like 2 out of our 3 did) the process is quick, but if there's a query (like DD2's photo which was rejected), once it's off the standard track it can be stuck for ages. We uploaded a new photo more than 2 weeks ago but the status has been "being processed" with no updates ever since. So we don't even know if the new photo has been approved, and there's people on the FB group who have been in a similar situation since February. People have missed holidays, half the family have gone without them, or sometimes they've turned up at a passport office without an appointment and managed to leave with it printed the same day and fly the day after. I don't know what to do for the best, we should be flying 3 weeks today, aargh.

SmugOldBag · 06/05/2022 12:39

Sorry to hear that @Scotinoz are you in UK or Aus?

I have a feeling overseas applications are prioritised somehow- being stuck overseas might be seen as being worse than not being able to leave. My DHs application took three weeks Nz-Uk-Nz over the Xmas break which is crazy fast. Mind you, $90 to send the old one back to the UK is crazy as well.

Why is there no edit function on here??
Passport 3, old passport has now arrived at its destination

DieSchottin93 · 06/05/2022 20:19

Update:
Tracking updated on 4th May to say they'd received my old passport
Application approved 5th May
Passport printed 6th May

So seems to be going pretty quickly, I'm hoping it will arrive next week 🙂

EveSix · 06/05/2022 20:36

Perhaps that's it, Heidipi; applications with no glitches stay "on track"?
There seems to be little rhyme or reason.

I had 4 passports to renew and stupidly sent them to one address in one envelope and realised after what I had done! Has anyone else done this and had a positive outcome?!

Runnerduck34 · 06/05/2022 23:08

There seems to be a wide variation of turnaround times even with same type of passport and method.

Child renewal
applied online 19th April

Posted old passport 1st class recorded delivery and Post Office says it was delivered in 21st April but Passport office said they received it 5th May

Waiting for further update...

Chocoqueen · 07/05/2022 07:52

Child's first passport - Durham

Applied: 15th March
Docs received on system: 29th March
Marriage certificate requested: 9th April

No update so called on 2nd May to check it had been received, called back on 3rd May to confirm it was added to the case on 28th April.

Application approved: 5th May.

Just waiting for confirmation it's being printed and sent now, finally feeling hopeful for our holiday in early June! Just hope we get the marriage certificate back in time as need that to link my passport name to my covid passport name!

70kid · 07/05/2022 08:15

I booked and paid for an passport appointment on line at Newport on 10th Jan

Paid and collected on 12th Jan
cost £177
Time - 15 mins to go through security and wait for appointment collect passport and leave
I spent more time trying to find a place to park than I did collecting the passport

if you can afford it and live near a passport office then I would definitely recommend doing this

Audacity7 · 07/05/2022 09:20

Glad I found this thread. I'm on the Facebook group and it's not doing my blood pressure any good ! Daughter needs to travel for team sports competition in 7 weeks. Applied online last weekend after trying for 4 days to get a fast track appointment and sent her passport on the Monday. No update yet.

Just tried the fast track appointments last night and managed to get one at the end of May !

Now the dilemma - continue with the normal renewal process or request the passport back from Liverpool so I can do the fast track in London ? I've heard it can take 2 weeks to get a passport returned and then I'll be left with no application ! Aaargh! Any calm advice greatly appreciated !

New passport printed on 6th May and apparently being delivered within a few days.

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 07/05/2022 11:43

@Audacity7, I'd keep it as it is. The Bootle office was very quick with my DS's once they received it.

Twins renewal (child to adult), sent back to different places.

HalleLouja · 07/05/2022 11:46

I applied 5 weeks ago when the waiting time was 5 weeks. Anyway, still no passport. Holiday in 3 weeks and now the fucking passport office keep cutting off our calls. Just waited 15 minutes to be cut off. Angry

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 07/05/2022 11:48

Oh no @HalleLouja what passport office is it? Some are definitely worse than others.

Kabloom · 07/05/2022 12:01

Type of passport requested: 1 X adult renewal
Date of Application: 13 April

Seems we are in the exact same position, same passport office with almost identical dates! They received mine on 5th May too.
