In the light of the hefty current backlog of processing passport applications, I thought it might be informative to start a thread for keeping an eye on other people's timelines for the applications for and renewal of UK passports. Personally, I'm hoping for reassurance at best, or a grim-faced reality check at worst.
I'll start. How about this format:
Type of passport requested: 2x DC UK renewals
Date of application: 18th of April
Method: Check and Send at local post office
Anyone want to add their stats?

Yes, I think April applications are in a horrible limbo too.

It seems to me that people either get theirs back fairly quickly, say within 2-4 weeks, without hassle, or find they've waited ages and only obtain their passports by turning up at the passport office where their applications are processed and queuing through the night.

It's as if there's no 'in between': you either applied later and now benefit from from the home office's desperate attempts to massage their figures by processing May applications before those who have waited longer, or you're simply stuck. I don't think I've seen a single pre-mid April applicant just receive their application in the post?

I applied for an adult passport for my DS on May 27th to replace his child passport which I've returned and they've now received at Bootle.

Pericombobulations · 09/06/2022 10:16

Fingers crossed but after contacting them via the web chat as they have had DS's application over 12 weeks, I have had the approved text so hopefully it will be in the post this week.

bizzey · 09/06/2022 14:47

Pericombobulations sorry if i am asking a really obvious question..
But how do I access the web chat ?

I submitted mine 11th April , but due to caring needs for my elderly mother , it would be really difficult to take time off to travel to a passport office to collect it 2 weeks before I go .

Really need to speed up my application.

bizzey · 09/06/2022 14:50

Does contacting my MP really help ?

This is the link I used. If you manage to get the pop up it asks for all the details including your PEX number. When you enter that info, if you get a waiting time you are in the queue, if you dont get a time then you havent managed to join the queue. I found if I typed it and have the main page to to the side, if the link disappears whilst you are typing is then to complete the page, but dont click enter until the blue link reappears.

mrssunshinexxx · 10/06/2022 18:35

Sent off 1st may
Received 10th June
Babies first passport

RoseAndRose · 11/06/2022 08:18

Update

Adult renewal
Applied online 27/05, old passport posted same day (signed for)
Confirmation old passport had been received: 02/06
Notification as approved: 10/06

So I hope it won't be too much longer now, as am I right in thinking what remains is printing and dispatch?

bizzey · 11/06/2022 15:25

Sort of an update from me...

I had an email this morning in response to an email I sent on 1st June.

Basically saying to ring passport office to request an upgrade and pay for it.

But the next line says , it is at the examiner's disscression if it is granted .

Going to try and get through now.

mrssunshinexxx · 11/06/2022 19:45

@RoseAndRose 4 days for me

bizzey · 12/06/2022 16:13

Update.
Well I think I was lucky with the time I rang and who I spoke to

After pressing various options (!!)
I got through on 2 rings !

Person put me through to someone else (8 mins hold ...not bad )

I will get call back in 1-3 days for it upgraded to "urgent" as I need it for POA for my mum.

(Yeah ...ok...I am going on holiday as well....but...uploading my photographic ID is what is delaying the POA )

I now must not let my mobile phone out of my sight for the next 3 days...

My mobile is not attached to me like other people !!

Stressful few days !

'I applied for an adult passport for my DS on May 27th to replace his child passport which I've returned and they've now received at Bootle'. My PP.

And they've just emailed today June 13th to say the application has been approved and is now being printed.

I'll update once I receive it

Sqeebling · 13/06/2022 14:32

Ps I sent the old passport in a normal bog standard envelope for the price of a first class stamp.

Rainallnight · 13/06/2022 15:25

I’ve just noticed something very strange on the tracker page.

It says if you want to make the case for your passport being urgent, you can only do that 10 weeks after they have received your documents.

BUT because they have the documents for anything between and week and 10 days before they mark them as ‘received’ on the system they are buying themselves extra time in the 10 week target.

I’m very cross about this.

bizzey · 13/06/2022 16:28

Yes , I noticed that during my phone call yesterday.
They were signed for on the 12 th April...but put in the system on the 28th April...and that was the date the lady was using.

bizzey · 13/06/2022 16:31

Another anoying thing is that during April the time schedule was upto 6 weeks.

I think that's particularly bad.

At least now everyone knows that it's 10 weeks and that for those unlucky enough to be caught in the backlog, it could be longer.

LocalHobo · 27/04/2022 00:31

Type. 1xDC 1st passport
Date 25th April
Method. Online

Arrived today! So just under 8 weeks.

Quitelikeit · 14/06/2022 09:58

Is bootle still processing passports quickly??

Rainallnight · 14/06/2022 10:55

@bizzey I knew there was a delay in uploading them onto the system, but I didn’t realise they were using that delay to buy themselves some extra time. So annoying

1 x child renewal from abroad
Applied for online on 17 May 2022
Old passport to be sent to Durham
Waiting time quoted as 11 weeks

Update:
Old passport received and signed for in Durham on 24 May
Online records still saying "Send your documents" on 8 June (i.e. 14 days later)

Further update:
Online records updated on 14 June to confirm that documents now received (i.e. a three week delay between receipt of documents and system updating)

RoseAndRose · 14/06/2022 12:28

Final update

Adult renewal
Applied online 27/05, old passport posted same day (signed for) to Liverpool
Confirmation old passport had been received: 02/06
Notification as approved: 10/06
Notification printed and passed to courier: 12/06
Text from courier and delivery: today, 14/06

It must seem really unfair to those stuck in backlogs that (at least some) later applications are coming through so much more quickly. I really hope that they get this properly sorted for everyone asap, and certainly before schools break up for the summer.

bizzey · 14/06/2022 15:05

RoseAndRose that's wonderful news!!.

Yes..it is anoying for those of us "earlier" in the queue, but it is still nice to hear that others are getting their passports.

I am still waiting for my call back .

bizzey · 14/06/2022 23:54

My "status" has changed !

4/6th May it was in a "processing" stage....
Now that is missing and I am back to 28th April ... documents received message .
