In the light of the hefty current backlog of processing passport applications, I thought it might be informative to start a thread for keeping an eye on other people's timelines for the applications for and renewal of UK passports. Personally, I'm hoping for reassurance at best, or a grim-faced reality check at worst.
I'll start. How about this format:
Type of passport requested: 2x DC UK renewals
Date of application: 18th of April
Method: Check and Send at local post office
Anyone want to add their stats?

Replacement of lost passport - application 21 April (still have to go through photo/verification process/further clarity as home address here but temporary student address abroad). Approved application 23 May. DD is abroad and received it 26 May (must have been posted 23 or 24 May and postal service remarkably quick).

Lots of action on this thread today -I've missed it!
Great news, rain.
supertedious, I don't suppose you know which passport office dealt with your child's renewal? (I'm visualising a golden glow of efficiency and verve surrounding Durham passport office, and nimble little pixie helpers working through the night to chip-chip-chip away at that back log...) That is SO quick!
bizzey, I'm not sure when I'll start chasing in earnest😬It seems like such a horrendous rabbit-hole. When customer services called me yesterday (!), they said the 10 weeks start from when they notify one that they've received the application, and not from the date of submission, which I'd assumed. I'm a Post Office Check and Send paper applicant, so there is a lag there of about 10 days. According to my initial plan, my 10 weeks would bring me up to 2 weeks before travel, which would give me time to ask for my applications to be expedited etc, but according to their timeline, I'll pretty much be at 10 weeks when it's time to fly. In all honesty, I have seen so many people on various platforms and forums drive themselves nuts with calls and emails, but I'm not sure it really makes a big difference in the end? Some more moderate voices seem to suggest that the thing to do is just to wait it out and visit the passport office in the 48 hours before one is due to travel. Not sure whether this is burying my head in the sand?
DP asked about it the other day. I've been trying to shelter him from the situation as he is a worrier, and this feels a bit sad now; I tend to be quite sanguine and pragmatic, but DP won't be able to not worry, and will want to deal with his anxiety through "doing", so will no doubt want to pursue every avenue of contact and enquiry, bashing himself bloodied against the impenetrable walls of HMPO...

@EveSix yes I believe it was Bootle?

Update 31 May: Childs renewal passport out for delivery today.

BooksAndHooks · 31/05/2022 10:40

Applied 21st April 3x DC renewals.

DD delayed as the counter signature was rejected, had a nightmare getting someone else they would accept.

then DS was put on hold as they decided he also needed a counter signature.
All three arrived different days this week so still fast turn around despite delays.

RalphtheMouth · 31/05/2022 10:55

How do you know which office is working on your application? My 18 year old son applied for a replacement passport after losing his - application received 14 April, lost passport confirmed cancelled 21 April. Website showing application is being processed. He travels 20 June so getting a bit worried now.

Any advice on what we can do?

DH had a message this week (25th May) that old passport was received but then a day later notified that photos weren't acceptable. New ones taken and uploaded today - no idea why those photo machines "take" photos which won't be any good for passports etc!
Flying 6th July, can change flights up to the day before at a cost of £45 each (so £135) plus whatever any extra cost would be but accomodation is non-refundable and has to be paid 28th June so that's our deadline for making any decisions....................

Passport back today!!!! No other communication from the office so had no idea but I have to admit to doing a little dance when I realised what it was 😂

bizzey · 01/06/2022 13:40

Brain has gone into frazzled mess !

Please could someone tell me what to do .

bizzey · 01/06/2022 13:54

What were all those email addresses that were on here ?

prettybird · 01/06/2022 14:13

Join the Passport Chaos 2022 group on FB. There's lots of advice and emails on there. But if you're still 6 weeks away, I'd leave angsting about it until 2 weeks before - and then go full hogg with travel dates/more than 2 weeks since you applied/upgrades (you're apparently not required to pay extra if it's been 10 weeks) and be prepared to go to your nearest Passport Office (but not London, by all accounts) and get there very early to get in the queue.

EveSix · 02/06/2022 16:46

Oh dear, bizzey!
That is such an irritating additional stress about your son as lead person. Let's hope it doesn't get to that point, though.
Do this next:
Call 01633745709 (I hope this number is still operational -the clued-up passport chasers on the FB group pretty referred to will have literally every number and email address going) to enquire as to which passport office is handling your application, unless you already know which office it is at.
Whichever comes first; 10 weeks post application or 2 weeks prior to travel, email the upgrade team at that office to let them know either that
a) (if 10 weeks post submission) they will be in breach of their service level agreement and need to prioritise your application
b) (if within 2 weeks of travel) you will be travelling in less than 2 weeks and need them to prioritise your application.
Also try to get through to customer service to request an appointment.
If you hear nothing back, you can visit the office where your application is being processed within 48 hours of travel, and the way things seem to be unfolding, a lot of people are finally getting their passports this way. You can chance it and visit the office closest to you, but some people have been turned away and referred to the office where their application is being processed.
Such a stressful situation for you, and so totally avoidable!

Updated details
Child renewal: Completed online 14th May
Old passport sent to Peterborough: 16th May
PO delivered old passport: 17th May
Confirmed received old passport: 25th May (8 days after receiving)
Approved date: 30th May
Printed date: 3rd June
Received date: TBC
Holiday date: none planned!

Heidipi · 07/06/2022 08:56

Non-update re my post from last month:

Type of passport requested: 1 adult renewal, 2 children's renewals
Date of application: 1st April
Method: online with old passports sent to Liverpool (x2) and Glasgow (x1) passport offices
Application status: 1 adult and 1 child approved and received in less than 3 weeks (1 sent to Liverpool, the other to Glasgow), other child photo was rejected on 20th April, submitted another same day, no progress since.

So no change for DD2’s renewal which has been processing since 22 April. On Friday it will be 10 wks since application date so from then I’m going to be emailing daily, now requesting it is expedited. I don’t think there’s any point phoning though I may do to ask for a call back from progress team in case they can tell me anything. I hear they are still telling people to wait til 2 weeks before travel, even those who have been waiting months. Postponed holiday at cost of £600 but it seems we’ve just given them more time to do nothing while new applications continue to be turned around in a couple of weeks. So frustrating.

Bizzey we are in a similar position.

Sent off for my sons passport including the deed poll certificate to prove his name change when I married his dad. Sent off in March.

I then got asked to send a signature from PR parent(s) to approve name change.

Sent that last week.

So does the 10 weeks start from them receiving that? Or from when they first received the application?!

Rainallnight · 07/06/2022 10:43

I had a dream last night that DS’s passport was delivered and only seeing this thread has reminded me it wasn’t real! 😩
