Hands up who knew all the talk of an Easter ceasefire would mean Russia actually stepping up its actions. 🖐

😖

TiddyTidTwo · 23/04/2022 19:02

Red amazing how in reality, outside of the elite Russia is a third world country, as is their military and their thinking.

How on earth did they get to be so tied up amongst the west. Germany is definitely in his pants and want to stay there, if they are honest.

In Russia the state has ordered publishers to eliminate the word "Ukraine" from textbooks. An attempt to erase a nation and a people, and to leave no trace, has begun.

Remind me how to spell the word? G - e...?

Just heard from my friend in Kharkiv. Her dog was killed this morning on its walk by falling debris caused by bomb damage. She’s understandably absolutely devastated and says that walking her dog was one of the few “normal” things she still got pleasure from doing despite the war.

in other news curfew imposed between certain times each day in Lviv due to “new intelligence” - wonder what that is?

I am so very sorry about your friend’s dog being killed. It must be unbearable for her.

The number of people who died as a result of Russian missile strikes on Odesa has risen to eight, Ukraine president Zelensky said during a press conference in Kyiv metro

ShinyHat22 · 23/04/2022 19:10

This conference is something else. It must be absolutely infuriating Putin.

TiddyTidTwo · 23/04/2022 19:12

⚡️ Zelensky calls Russian military 'stinky bastards' after airstrike kills 3-month-old in Odesa.

President Volodymyr Zelensky didn’t hold back during his press conference held hours after Russian missiles killed eight and injured 18 people in Odesa.

⚡️Zelensky in message to Moscow: “Life in Russia is virtual reality… You should return to the real, civilised world! It’s wonderful. Truth is wonderful.”

Can we steal him?

DuncinToffee · 23/04/2022 19:15

“It’s simply horror,” Zelensky said. “During these (Easter) days, so they just don’t care.”

He added that however difficult it is, Ukraine must continue peace talks to prevent more children from being killed by Russian attacks.

On Germany,

twitter.com/krides/status/1517621458880634880?t=wcOt8pEkZ_sOk01dIf-bLQ&s=19

It should be noted that, among other things, German companies are refusing to sell field rations to Ukrainian volunteers.

Food.

They are blocking food sales for Ukrainian soldiers. It’s beyond sabotage: it’s collaboration with the aggressor.

I read down through a lot of the replies. Some people were saying this cannot be at the German government level because they have been supplying. So some reasonable seeming people are responding saying this might be some individual company’s policy, and asking for the source or original emails. Or, suggesting field rations supplied by individual companies have to follow strict rules.

Could it be that there is something that needs clarifying here?

ScrollingLeaves · 23/04/2022 19:41

Sorry - re my voicing doubts about Germany deliberately holding back food rations from Ukraine, I’ve seen RedToothBrush thinks this follows a pattern. So I am sure the report about refusing the rations must be right.

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 23/04/2022 19:42

He added that however difficult it is, Ukraine must continue peace talks to prevent more children from being killed by Russian attacks.

What grace, what strength.
What restraint.

Following RTB'S comment on the food situation I went digging. Found an article saying the Russians are/are planning to export the wheat from the Russian occupied areas like Kherson to create famine in Ukraine and elsewhere. But then heard some good news in that UNICEF has very recently delivered hundreds of tonnes of food into the southern areas in case of sieges.

Ijsbear · 23/04/2022 19:44

I noted that the people communicating about the food rations and even ingredients say every time that it's stuff intended for the military. Germany is suddenly starting to expand its military in a huge way from a parlous state before. Could it be that the companies are unable to send stuff because it's getting orders from the military?

This is not to excuse it. At this point Ukraine's need is greater than Germany's and there is a strong whiff of them being too afraid to annoy Russia to do what's right and actually, what's in their own long term interests.

TiddyTidTwo · 23/04/2022 19:57

The EU isn't really a union at all when it comes down to it.

France, Germany, Austria etc all scratching their self serving arses whilst being in Putins y-fronts.

Uk, Ukraine and Eastern Europe know exactly what the bloody score is...

I'd rather give up my freedom of movement than be part of a union whose most powerful countries are sucking Putrids dick! Sorry, I have an ear infection so my tolerance is low today

winterchills · 23/04/2022 19:59

Checking in.

videokilledtheradiostar1 · 23/04/2022 20:09

I feel so much anger today and don't really have anyone to share it with.
Overheard in a public place, 'is the war still on, I havent really been following'
And for me personally, I sit in church whilst people pray for the downing of weapons and think no, let's get the bastards. Let's make them pay for this. I know that's so wrong and misdirected anger. I feel like I live in a alternate world where this isn't happening. I'm nit bothered about a reply, but it has / is a refuge to come here and read when I feel other people don't give a toss.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 23/04/2022 20:11

Well at least the Bulgarian sailors managed to get home from Mariupol. The captain is still with the ship.
Reported 80 ships and crew are stuck in the black /Azro sea and Russia saying that dirty Ukrainian people have laid mines .

Also reported that 10-20k of the Wagner group are aiding Russia , these thugs are possibly behind atrocities in mali , Syria and Libya .

HappyWinter · 23/04/2022 20:15

I was thinking earlier about the start of the invasion and the first civilian deaths in Mariupol and how horrific and upsetting it was, I cannot believe the horrors that have happened since and how Mariupol has since been razed to the ground. The devastation has become "normal", every day there is more and it is all for nothing, just because Russia wants everyone else to lose so they can "win".

What the f are Germany thinking? I hope they become more supportive soon. They might need Russian gas but do they really think Russia will stop at Ukraine? They need to extract themselves from their dependence asap.

JacquelineCarlyle · 23/04/2022 20:19

I feel the same @videokilledtheradiostar1 - I'm so grateful for these threads as people in real life seem to have stopped talking about it. It's horrendous!

videokilledtheradiostar1 · 23/04/2022 20:23

It is horrendous @JacquelineCarlyle. The story a pp put about their friends dog being killed by debris on a walk was heart breaking. The evacuation and kidnapping of people on buses is heartbreaking. Watching that poor man (Zelensky) breaks my heart too.
I feel that we now live in a free for all world where anything is possible...

DuncinToffee · 23/04/2022 20:25

Maxim Tucker

Russia killed a three month baby in its attack on Odessa today. Save the Children says the latest “senseless death” brings the number of child casualties to more than 450. And that a staggering two thirds of Ukraine’s children have had to flee their homes.

It isn't. It's still a structured world where there have been no world wars for 70 years. War has always existed and so has trade and so has government.

It's just that this war has made many people realise that the stable safe life they thought they had isn't guarenteed. But the structure still goes on and for most people, life is still safe.

But we have to stand up for the people where life isn't safe.

TiddyTidTwo · 23/04/2022 20:27

Video

I agree. I keep sending my friends and family stuff though, I will keep it alive.

There's nothing wrong with "let's get the bastards". That's the only thing Putin understands, hence why he's worried about the SAS. Appeasement and weakness strengthens him and if he's to be stopped then I'm afraid it is the only way
