Do you like courgettes?

That's the Q really.

I don't think I'm adult enough to like them 🤣 I've just made curry for tea and I ate all my courgette first so that I could enjoy the rest of the meal without them! My children showed me right up by eating theirs without fuss.

Am I missing something? Those who like them, how do you cook them?

Love them. But wouldn’t put them in a curry. Surely they turned to mush?!

XenoBitch · 22/04/2022 18:51

I love them. There is so much you can make with them. You can even use them to make cake.

Suprima · 22/04/2022 18:52

In a curry? Absolutely not

I airfry or barbecue them with olive oil, pepper, salt and oregano.

anything else reduces them to mush

Yes, I like them. I've never put them in an Indian style curry but I put them in Thai green curry. I also love them cut into matchsticks and fried in either butter or olive oil with chopped red chilli and served with pasta.

They were only simmered for 8m or so, so not mush but 'tender' to quote the recipe.

Tell me how you'd eat them!! Let me benefit from your wisdom.

I don't mind courgettes. Don't like them when they are soggy and in sauce like a curry though really. I like them grated and made into cheesy courgette fritters, or sweet courgette muffins or courgette cake. Or cut into batons and air fried in chip seasoning. Or turned into zoodles.

Yes, it was an Indonesian style curry.

I like them too. (And I fucking hate rats too)

Courgettes are great sliced thin, dredged in flour, egg and panko crumbs and lightly pan fried.

Cut into batons, roasted with some olive oil and bit of Parmesan grated over them.

Also, added raw to a fruit smoothie they are undetectable.

Pyri · 22/04/2022 18:55

The ONLY way to eat courgettes is to pan fry them in a metric fuck tonne of butter, garlic, salt and pepper. They are delicious this way especially with white fish

PickAChew · 22/04/2022 18:55

I love them in a curry, so can't help you there!

whosaidtha · 22/04/2022 18:56

Ratatouille with ricotta. Or I made a cheesy potato and courgette bake this week. Yummy

FayCarew · 22/04/2022 18:56

Love them and often put them in a curry

DaftyLass · 22/04/2022 18:56

I love when they are small (two/three inches diameter) sliced in half lengthwise, and done on the bbq.
I usually oil them, and do them in old bay seasoning, or za'atar

UhtredsLatestPaganHussy · 22/04/2022 18:56

They're a top tier vegetable. But I don't like them in a curry type situation. They go too mushy.

I love courgette/mint/feta fritters.
I like a finely chopped courgette flash fried with some toasted almonds and parmesan shavings added.
Sliced finely and layered over some cream cheese on a puff pastry sheet. Ribbon slices of raw courgette with some mint and olive oil.
Courgette soup
Sliced and fried on a griddle pan
Dipped in batter and deep fried...

notacooldad · 22/04/2022 18:56

I had them lightly grilled the other night with grilled carrot, mizithra and a plum jam dressing. Lovely!!

RampantIvy · 22/04/2022 18:59

8 minutes is far too long to cook them. Griddled one minute each side, and they are delicious.

The first receipe ( courgette cake with white chocolate) is 👌👏

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 22/04/2022 18:59

Ooh I love them! My favourite way to have them is lightly griddled, sprinkled with salt and put in an omelette with loads of grated mature cheddar…yum!

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 22/04/2022 19:01

I grate them into curry!

HotDogKetchup · 22/04/2022 19:02

We love them in my house. Mostly in pasta dishes, creamy bacon and courgette is a firm fave, in lasagne too.

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 22/04/2022 19:02

Yes love them. There’s a good Jamie Oliver courgette carbonara recipe

Alightjacket · 22/04/2022 19:03

I love them. I put them in most meals. Best was the eat them is to slice them like crisps, coat them in seasoned flour and fry them in butter till then are crispy though

MissStarry · 22/04/2022 19:03

I like them in a spag bol and green Thai curry, also they’re okay roasted with other veg in honey/mustard.

Am following for inspiration as well as don’t really use them outside of the above, but do end up with loads due to many people I know growing vast quantities always “giving them away” (begging you to take some off their hands).

Courgette flowers however I really do love; either raw in salads or stuffed.

Luredbyapomegranate · 22/04/2022 19:04

You don’t want to put them in a curry OP, they are far too watery.

They are good as part of roasted Mediterranean veg, and also in ratatouille, they are also great cut into think strips, griddled and then add lemon and salt. Hugh FW also has a courgette and tomato oven bake thing, like a simplified ratatouille, which is nice.

You need to reduce the water so bake or grill to intensify flavour. Slow sautéing also works.

purplesequins · 22/04/2022 19:05

I love them. but have a family member who hates the texture of cubed/sliced. they are fine with grated though.
maybe try that. grated they just melt into the sauce.
