Do you like courgettes?

FuckingHateRats · 22/04/2022 18:49

That's the Q really.

I don't think I'm adult enough to like them 🤣 I've just made curry for tea and I ate all my courgette first so that I could enjoy the rest of the meal without them! My children showed me right up by eating theirs without fuss.

Am I missing something? Those who like them, how do you cook them?

Yes
Love courgette chocolate cake

ClafoutisSurprise · 22/04/2022 19:07

Love them. Best courgette recipes for me are risotto, courgette carbonara, Greek filo pie with feta and courgette and courgette parmigiana (much nicer than using aubergine), but I wouldn’t say no to them in a curry either. Local Indian takeaway puts big chunks in vegetable curries and it works well for me, but then I quite enjoy soft-textured vegetables in a curry.

AngelaRayner4PM · 22/04/2022 19:07

I also put them in blended soups as the flavour as lovely and the texture isn't an issue. Or chop up finely and add to my cottage pies, chillis or Bolognese. I like to take the core out and cut up finely

I like them in some things not others. Not a huge fan of just plain grilled courgette but I think they make a vege lasagne and love the way they sweeten and thicken a tomato pasta sauce when grated in.

What's a 'top tier' vegetable? Confused

iamsoreadyforbednow · 22/04/2022 19:08

I absolutely love them.

try courgette noodles: pan fry some garlic with some butter and toss in some cherry tomatoes (the expensive on vine ones taste best!) add whatever spices you fancy, I just did salt and pepper with some chilli flakes, then when the tomatoes are soft and have some colour to the akin, toss in the courgette noodles for literally 30 seconds maybe a minute just to heat through. Goes lovely with a pan fried salmon on top!

Topseyt123 · 22/04/2022 19:10

They are inoffensive. I think with salt, pepper and garlic they are fine.

I do quite like them grated and mixed with sweetcorn and cheese to make fritters.

OctopusSay · 22/04/2022 19:11

It depends what you do with them. They need to be raw and well marinated or cooked and well browned with plenty of salt IMO. Soggy in a curry, I'd eat them, but I wouldn't enjoy them.

Linnet · 22/04/2022 19:12

I make courgette soup, it’s lovely. I’ve also made courgette rollatini and courgetti.

GlumyGloomer · 22/04/2022 19:13

I can just about tolerate them cut small in pasta sauce, in sweetcorn fritters with sweet chilli sauce, and in chocolate cake. But carrot cake is better.

A vegetable that I'd put in the top tier when compiling a league table of vegetables.

Obviously.

sickofthisnonsense · 22/04/2022 19:14

Yep they go in every meal here.
Curry, spaghetti Bol, raw in salad

Saganaki · 22/04/2022 19:15

I grate them, then you can’t even tell they’re there.

RMS0209 · 22/04/2022 19:16

I love them! Nice done in the oven. Full of folate too x

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 22/04/2022 19:16

I love them in tomato sauce. Also lovely just lightly floured and cooked in olive oil and sprinkled with salt/pepper/herbs/spices. Fritters are lovely too.

Against the grain here, I like them in curry too. And also stew. Actually I do use them a lot. Lovely with teriyaki sauce too.

PurBal · 22/04/2022 19:18

We basically live on courgettes in the summer as they’re easy to grown. So yes. We do. We tend to fry them. Also good combined with egg for a pastry-less quiche Spanish omelette style.

TheChosenTwo · 22/04/2022 19:23

I don’t dislike them but they require faffing to make sure they’re not bland as fuck or just a soggy blob of nothingness.
i like them in courgette, mint and feta fritters, or something where they are roasted just to give them a bit of flavour.
dh doesn’t especially like them so we don’t eat them often as he does the majority of the cooking.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 22/04/2022 19:30

One of my favourite easy dishes is halved then sliced courgette, fried til brown, crushed garlic added, then white wine added and boiled almost away. Tossed with pasta, salt and pepper - yum.

BiscuitLover3678 · 22/04/2022 19:33

fry or steam

sassafras123 · 22/04/2022 19:33

Boil for 10 mins cool slice lengthways and scoop out flesh. Mix egg garlic and grated cheese into the flesh with some breadcrumbs and bake in oven. Or fry them. Yummy snacks.

DrNo007 · 22/04/2022 19:38

Roast for 20 mins in butter or olive oil with tomatoes and red peppers. Garlic if liked, salt and pepper, lemon juice to serve. They are gorgeous.

WarmSausageTea · 22/04/2022 19:39

Raw in a salad, just lovely.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 22/04/2022 19:40

No. I eat them all the fucking time because DH likes them and they're a good low-carb choice, but I don't actually like them. Soggy, tasteless things, no matter how they're cooked.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 22/04/2022 19:42

I love shallow fried courgettes or corvettes hot or cold in ratatouille. I first tried cold ratatouille in Portugal & it was absolutely amazing! I also like courgette in a dish with filo pastry & brie or I have another recipe with prawns, pasta & courgettes which was yummy.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 22/04/2022 19:42

Corvettes lol 🤣🤣🤣
