Do you like courgettes?

That's the Q really.

I don't think I'm adult enough to like them 🤣 I've just made curry for tea and I ate all my courgette first so that I could enjoy the rest of the meal without them! My children showed me right up by eating theirs without fuss.

Am I missing something? Those who like them, how do you cook them?

I love courgettes. Until about mid july when I fucking hate them so much as despite promising myself 1 gold and 1 green plant is absolutely enough I always feel guilty about throwing baby ones away so find a bit of space for at least 4.

Luckily my chickens quite like them so I would say the best way is in a poached egg, bacon and fried cherry tomatoes 😁

My eldest DS calls courgette 'bitey water'

Not a fan but some of the recipes up thread sound delicious!

This is excellent! My DS ovserved "they're like cucumber-y squash" which I think nailed how he experienced them this evening.

Definitely going to try the mint, feta and courgette fritatas, and many other of the ideas posted. Thanks!

I'm a vegetarian and I find them generally tasteless and watery. And I like all vegetables apart from courgette and celery.

No, not a fan - but then I don’t like cucumber and melon, and to me, they’re the same ilk.

I don’t mind them in other things, but can’t eat them by themselves.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 22/04/2022 21:32

I don't really like them they are just too blah...worse than aubergine with that ridiculous pappy slithery wet taste and texture

HOWEVER, I did once make a gratin, slice the courgette, saute with loads of S&P and, as @Pyri said, a metricfucktonne of butter, then layer them in a dish with brie and double cream or creme fraiche, bacon and more brie on top and into the oven until all crisp and toasty on the top

It was good, but I've never bothered with them otherwise. Except for a weird cake recipe and that was so much buggering about with a grater that I only made that once too.

So to sum up, courgettes are not for me.

RedRobyn2021 · 22/04/2022 21:35

I love them

AlisonDonut · 22/04/2022 21:36

I use the yellow ones [actually I only grow yellow ones] to make Nigella's Happiness Soup. Do try it. It's amazing.

LoveSpringDaffs · 22/04/2022 21:44

Love them. As a low carb vegetarian they often feature in dinner!

HRTQueen · 22/04/2022 21:45

Yes they still have to have a bite

i like the grilled with a little olive oil, lemon and pepper

I wouldn’t put them in a curry

ImplementingTheDennisSystem · 22/04/2022 21:56

Yes!
For my entire adult life I've eaten this dish:
Cut a small courgette into cubes. Put into an individual baking dish with whole cherry toms and chunks of red onion. Add loads of crushed garlic and olive oil. Tear a mozzarella ball over the top. Bake in the oven on low until the veg is soft. Mop up the garlicy veg juices and oil with crusty bread.

WalkerWalking · 22/04/2022 22:03

Fry very hot in olive oil, don't stir too much. Take off the heat, and gently stir in some garlic puree (while the pan's still hot, but not hot enough to burn the garlic)

HighlandCowbag · 23/04/2022 12:01

@ImplementingTheDennisSystem I do a similar dish, but add a blob of tomato puree with the cheese, then stir through pasta. Is lush.

Deathraystare · 23/04/2022 16:21

Love them but I think there may be some that need using up in the fridge! Thanks for reminding me!!!

sophienelisse · 23/04/2022 17:45

I make them into noodles and pan fry them then add truffle oil and parmasan. Or I air fry slices or slice like cucumber and roast in the oven.

Sometimes I slice them vertical with the vegetable peeler and griddle them, then put a salmon fillet on top with sauce - but only when I'm trying to be fancy

2catsandhappy · 23/04/2022 17:55

No. Refered to as The Devil's Poop in this house.

Deadivy · 23/04/2022 18:25

Love them raw in salads as cubes, or shaved with a wide veg peeler to make long strips and then marinated in olive oil, lemon, chilli & black pepper, a sort of courgette carpaccio, eaten raw and are gorgeous, My other fave way in shaved again into long wide srips and then placed on a griddle pan then eat with grilled meat, fish or in a sandwich

Bedsheets4knickers · 23/04/2022 21:25

I love them absolutely hate aubergine 🤮

OMsportsdilema · 23/04/2022 21:27

Stuffed with rice or baked in salsa they are nice... otherwise like soggy cooked cucumber

Fedupsequin · 23/04/2022 21:31

Ohh,I love courgettes! In the summer I slice them with a potato peeler and then put them in a tin foil parcel with olive oil, mint and feta on the bbq. They are divine!

comfortablyfrumpy · 23/04/2022 21:36

Love them.
Just as well, as I always grow too many...
So versatile.

I cook them in all sorts of ways.

One if my favourite summer salads is thinly sliced courgette marinated in olive oil, white wine vinegar and lemon juice, with green beans and pine nuts added. Glorious.

Perfectlystill · 23/04/2022 21:36

Yes with tarragon and garlic. And bacon.

Rememberallball · 24/04/2022 09:39

Chopped up with onion, garlic and a tin of chopped tomatoes, add a chicken breast, all in an ovenproof dish and cook for about an hour till everything’s cooked.

Diced finely along with carrots, sweet potato, butternut squash, mushrooms and onions and added to lasagne, cottage pie or bolognese sauce - pretty much the only way to get any veggies in T1 as he throws them off the plate if he can see them!!

Chopped chunky with carrots, leeks, butternut squash and onions and underneath whatever meat I’m roasting for Sunday dinner. Use the resulting stock in the gravy.

gogohm · 24/04/2022 09:44

Yes, each them in anything but wouldn't generally put them in a sauce as they go mushy

JennyForeigner · 24/04/2022 09:45

Pyri · 22/04/2022 18:55

The ONLY way to eat courgettes is to pan fry them in a metric fuck tonne of butter, garlic, salt and pepper. They are delicious this way especially with white fish

Two metric fuck tonnes, but otherwise accurate.

Phos · 24/04/2022 09:49

Love them. I have put them in curry, they do go mushy but I didn’t mind it.

Sometimes I grill them as a side or cube them and put them on skewers with other veggies and firm tofu to make a kebab (you could do it with halloumi or chicken too) or put them in a pasta primavera type dish.

I also like them raw either sliced or grated as part of a salad. I did once make courgette and Gruyère scones which were nice.
