This ring.. like or hate?

Just as the title says! Been asking friends and family and had a really really divided response 🤔

So.. do you love it?
Or hate it?

I ask because my DP's mum was funny with us last week when we mentioned I may be changing my engagement ring. I explained the reasons why like I have on this post.. but she wasn't impressed..

Agree with PP that it's not her business (although I can see why she might have been disappointed; shouldn't have shown it though), but why would the opinions of lots of random people on a message board about which ring looks best make any difference to her?

i like it, it's my type of thing, but would not ever ask other people for their opinions on rings, or any other things either. Very foolish to do this, as you might get 10 people who hate it, and 9 who love it, so what's the point is asking anything.

It seems everyone who has got engaged in the last 5 years has that exact ring.

Perhaps MIL is just jealous that you are getting "yet another" ring and she thinks it's "unnecessary"?

Other people have their own agendas, you only want what makes you happy. They don’t necessarily want the same.

Fuck them all, do what makes you happy and stop worrying about other peoples opinions.

You’re a beautiful and loved person, somehow you’re still thinking like a person who lacked self esteem, didn’t know their worth and beauty, you’re not that person anymore

If you like it what's the matter what anyone else think. If your in love with it, get it. I have an Art Deco style engagement ring as love that style

Thanks to all that have commented regarding the MIL situation. It's true, I worry far too much about other people and their views on me. Ive always been like it! 😅

Not for me, clusters to me always scream ‘trying to make it look more expensive that it was’

But you might be in the same situation if it becomes too big...

My engagement ring is simply one emerald cut diamond. I've had people say "oh it's not very fancy", "too plain" to "I love it", "brilliant cut" and "so elegant". I have not one fig, it gives me joy every time I look at it after 20 years. If this ring doesn't do that for you, then move on, I say.

Maybe your mil has got the wrong idea and thinks you are criticising what your dp bought you initially and she's trying to be protective of him?

Eek no I think it's tacky. If it's for an engagement ring, I think a big stone all day long. The crushed diamonds are awful.

I just couldn't love a pre loved ring.

Have you asked a jeweller how much it would cost to reset the stones from your original ring? Either replicating the current settings or looking to redesign e.g. using the main stone but not the one from the shoulders (you could use those in a eternity ring or earrings).
