Just as the title says! Been asking friends and family and had a really really divided response 🤔

So.. do you love it?
Or hate it?

What about buying the stones yourself and getting someone to design something that means something to you.

We did this, I’m a swimmer, traumatised by Jaws so terrified of dark open water because of the monsters.

Sailors wore aquamarine to ward off sea monsters so we bought a diamond and 2 triangle aquamarines and had them set. Cost a fraction of what it would have cost buying off the shelf as it were!

MzHz · 12/04/2022 15:12

I do prefer that ring to your original actually! that’s because I do have a touch of ocd about shapes etc, and while I’d have probably gone for a simpler ring over all, I think that ring looks absolutely stunning on you!

Talk about a sparkler!

I’m saddened that some who don’t like it felt compelled to be so rude and ill mannered for absolutely no point.

I do hope you’ll get it! You love it! It’s your ring to love and that’s all that matters!

LaMarschallin · 12/04/2022 15:14

Neither love nor hate it.
A couple of fairly-recently engaged family members have very similar ones, so I assumed Art Deco was coming back into fashion.
I generally like AD, but I'd find a ring that chunky would swamp my skinny fingers.

QueenofDestruction · 12/04/2022 15:17

Not for me but taste is v subjective.

LaMarschallin · 12/04/2022 15:23

Sorry - realise now that your title says "like or hate it?" (although the text says "So.. do you love it? Or hate it?").
I certainly don't hate it. If it's between "like" or "hate", then I like it. Not enough to buy it for myself and not enough to have as an engagement ring, but if I inherited it, say, then I'd happily wear it now and again despite my skinny fingers.

yadil · 12/04/2022 15:26

Thank you all. I think due to the milgrain / beaded edging around the square centre piece - it does give off a gold / yellow colour.

I'm going to go and have another look tonight, to see how I feel

Big rings .short marriages

NeedleNoodle3 · 12/04/2022 15:39

I think you know if you love something.

NeedleNoodle3 · 12/04/2022 15:39

How much is it?

Benjispruce4 · 12/04/2022 15:40

Like

Taleas0ldastime · 12/04/2022 15:41

Not my style so I wouldn't wear it myself...ot wouldn't bother me if someone else did though.

BackInBlackAgain · 12/04/2022 15:50

Love it

Deadringer · 12/04/2022 15:54

I love it.

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 12/04/2022 16:38

@yadil
How much more weight do you think you'll lose?
Because you'll have the same issue with this ring as your existing one - they're diamond set shoulders and can't really be resized down.
Maybe wait until you've reached a stable weight and then buy a replacement or have the existing ring re-set?

MenaiMna · 12/04/2022 17:22

I remember your other thread. This is far nicer than your old pear which is too big for you now. But I'm an art deco fan. The individual stones on the one pictured are more substantial and I prefer that to lots of little sparklers. I was going to suggest on the other thread the pear in its current setting should make a lovely pendant. Hopefully the value of the excess metal would pay the jeweller to do the conversion work and get you a good chain.

MenaiMna · 12/04/2022 17:26

I take that back - original pic looked like 5 large baguettes to me (my cataract fooled me). This is like the pear, too many little sparklers around it; looks "busy". But as pp wisely say - if you're hesitating it's not "the one". Keep looking.

Poppins2016 · 12/04/2022 17:29

Being practical, I'm assuming you'll probably lose further weight? I'd want to know how easy it would be to get the new ring re-sized, otherwise you'll end up in this situation all over again. It may also be less expensive to have a good jeweller recreate the pear shaped ring reusing the diamonds from your original.

I would echo the others who have said you may not love the new ring that much if you have to ask... I'd sleep on it (some more).

Afonavon · 12/04/2022 17:35

Here’s my thoughts:

  1. You love it, so it doesn’t matter at all what anyone else thinks.

or

  1. You don’t love it, and are hoping others will convince you.

or

  1. You are showing off

It is of no consequence what anyone else’s opinion is, it really isn’t. I ask you if you would really like it more or less depending on other people’s opinion. And why would you care, seriously why?

yadil · 12/04/2022 17:38

Absolutely not trying to show off in any way whatsoever! 🥺

I just wanted to gauge others opinions.

I ask because my DP's mum was funny with us last week when we mentioned I may be changing my engagement ring. I explained the reasons why like I have on this post.. but she wasn't impressed..

It looks better on.

Why are you canvassing opinions of friends and family (and MN) about something so personally? Confused

cumonilean · 12/04/2022 17:39

I think the second ring is nowhere near as nice as your first. Personally I'd invest in a new shank for the original ring once your weight loss has reached wheee you want to be. Find a good independent jeweller and they will be able to come up with a solution for your original ring.

This is similar to my engagement ring and I LOVE it!

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 12/04/2022 17:48

@yadil
Ignore his mum - it really is none of her business.

NotMyselfWithoutCoffee · 12/04/2022 17:53

It looks better on your finger than in the picture.
