And so the madness continues! Here's our 9th thread to discuss, boast and rant about the game that is more pointless than Pointless, needs Masterminds to solve and will make Eggheads of us all, what with the amount of hair-pulling it induces!

If you have no clue what I'm on about, our last thread is here, and the game itself can be found here.

To any newbies, welcome to the dark side, and to those who have played before, thanks for keeping me company I'm this!

@ErrolTheDragon

Thank you

Curious to know others direction now!

Wallawallakoala · 13/04/2022 13:39

@Rummikub if you own a 998, you will have a certain 1000, that would would hold. 924 is this person's 1000.

If that makes any sense at all!?

poppym12 · 13/04/2022 13:57

I enjoy that one. Seemed to flow better.
I solved Semantle #74 in 42 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 15.23. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #4. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 58.04 (994/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

Mine was more of a meander than a definite direction Grin

MoonriseKingdom · 13/04/2022 14:21

I solved Semantle #74 in 105 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 1.40. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #29. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 18.72. semantle.novalis.org/

Had lots of top 10 words and still took me ages!

backlord · 13/04/2022 15:15

Just highlighting 760 as the wtf does that mean word of the day.

@Redcrayons I'm feeling smug because I do know that word well, related to my hobby. But I have precious few opportunities to feel smug in a semantle thread!

Maybe you can tell us if there's any connection whatever, however tenuous, to the solution!
ErrolTheDragon · 13/04/2022 15:38

Curious to know others direction now!

Mine, and I think others, came at it from a general theme which has cropped up a few times before.

Rummikub · 13/04/2022 15:41

I’m enjoying the clues a lot more!

VivienneDelacroix · 13/04/2022 16:08

Not great today, but not abysmal I guess.
I solved Semantle #74 in 105 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 5.43. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #14. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 37.86 (943/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

gogohm · 13/04/2022 17:28

Stuck at 987
Also have 980, 972, 970, 959, 952... am I even on track?

Redcrayons · 13/04/2022 17:31

Apart from 952, you’re on the right track. What do you get if you do the others? The newspaper clue from this morning fits.

Drawerofcrap · 13/04/2022 17:40

I solved Semantle #74 in 113 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 3.05. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #17. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 60.48 (996/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

BIWI · 13/04/2022 18:25

@gogohm you're definitely on the right track!

If you 987, what do you earn?

HeadacheGrey · 13/04/2022 18:39

I solved Semantle #74 in 106 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 6.72. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #54. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 4.32. semantle.novalis.org/

SlightlyJaded · 13/04/2022 18:51

So the newspaper clue....

are we talking broadsheet or red-top?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 13/04/2022 19:03

@SlightlyJaded

either - tbh - just reporting

ScrambledSmegs · 13/04/2022 20:20

@JaneJeffer

You hadn't typed 960 by any chance *@ScrambledSmegs*? Grin
Just looked that up Grin I'm so tempted to use that in everyday conversations now!
ScrambledSmegs · 13/04/2022 20:25

@semantlename what can I say, it's the school holidays and I'm rapidly exhausting my reserves of patience. Not that I had much in the first place!

I have no excuse. Just a hot head with a foul mouth! 😅

TraceyLacey · 13/04/2022 20:59

I solved Semantle #74 in 196 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of -0.49. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #4. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 17.94. semantle.novalis.org/

I only got this from clues, I was at 999 for ages!

AllTheYoungGoodyTwoShoes · 13/04/2022 21:41

Okay I've went back to it and stuck on 993. Can someone please give or PM a clue thanks.

HikingforScenery · 13/04/2022 21:46

Ugh! I went round and round. So many greens. DH helped me in the end.

JaneJeffer · 13/04/2022 21:57

@AllTheYoungGoodyTwoShoes 993 holds the ?

ItWasPeculiarButBearable · 13/04/2022 22:06

I’ve never had so many greens - all the 990s except 998 plus loads more. Cannot wrap my head around the clues, although I know I’ll kick myself when I get it!

Any clues gratefully received!
