I think that this was always going to happen unless we had held a united line for Putin.

April 2 (Reuters) - A Ukrainian negotiator said on Saturday Russia had indicated that draft peace treaty documents were at an advanced enough stage to allow for direct consultations between the two nations' leaders, Interfax Ukraine reported.

The agency quoted David Arakhamia as telling Ukrainian television that Russia accepted Ukraine's overall position with the exception of its stance on Crimea.

Putin's long game has been to weaken the West, from supporting far right groups and movements across Europe and meddling the 2016 US election to the support of the Assad regime. How on earth have we allowed it. We have been sold out by our most corrupt politicians. Yes a firmer stance must have been taken although we all know the West have also been very corrupt in their dealings in the Middle East. I feel Merkel underestimated Putin and thought he could be softened with business deals. I'm sorry Ukrainians are paying the price. Its all a long game and it has nothing to do with territorial desire for Russian speaking Ukraine. Just to weaken the West and our dependence on oil and gas from Russia and regions he seeks to control.

Agreed. We can't support them if we don't about it, and we can't safeguard the future of Europe either.

I'm also struggling to process the horrific events, but I feel like knowing about it is the only way to make any changes, however miniscule.

Im sorry but I think that this is more Putin bullshit. Nothing that he says can be trusted until every last tank is out of Ukraine excepting perhaps the Crimea and the poor deported bastards from Mariupol and the other occupied regions are returned.

The man makes snake oil salesmen look like the Dalai Lama.

But you have to dance along the diplomatic game, I suppose.

Keep up the military pressure without talking a breath.

Pay lip service to the peace negotiations remembering that the words of a humiliated obsessive paranoid fixated gaslighting liar are irrelevant. All about actions and knowing the character you are dealing with.

Would love to have a sweep stake about how soon he will be taken out by one of his inner circle and by who …. but I think that we are literally years and years away from that. The sanctions haven’t bit yet.

That's horrific. I don't think I will ever forgive Russia for what they have done in Ukraine. The Russian army are monsters.

All soldiers who are badly trained and under pressure and then let loose can lose any trace of moral standards.

Look at My Lai, look at other situations.

Don't start hating every Russian soldier. A lot of them are frightened, young and far from home. Some of them behave in a truly loathsome fashion. But some of them will be holding back.

Hate Putin instead.

Having zelensky killed must be a key ambition of Putin. He’ll hate everything about Zelensky not the least because he mocked Putin.

The absolutely biggest things Putin has done is simply to invade other nations and take them over whilst we do nothing.

Then stand shoulder to shoulder with Assad and enable the gassing, bombing And smashing of Assad's own people!!

The silence from everyone was the emboldening.

He presses go and armies cause havoc And no one did anything.
We continued to be afraid of him, court him, smooze with him when he's a active on the global stage.
