If you're lucky enough not to know what I'm on about Semantle is a word game like Wordle. You need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics, not letters. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

Do I need to know anything about the topic featuring in the 990s?

I solved Semantle #66 in 98 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 4.33. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #4. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 78.68 (999/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

Ugh, rubbish today. I went on a massive tangent because of 866 and 506, which were absolutely useless and nowhere near the target.

I solved Semantle #66 in 29 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 2.59. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #5. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 14.05. semantle.novalis.org/

I got 985 on my 5th guess, quickly onto 994, my highest is now 997 but I can’t think of any more 985s or related words - some give lower greens other totally cold. Thought this was going to be a super quick one but clearly not.

I got 995 on my 10th guess! I didn’t think about changing the part of speech, got bogged down in specifics and different 994s.

I solved Semantle #66 in 124 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 2.56. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #17. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 20.53. semantle.novalis.org/

I managed to solve it in 23 guesses.

I'm sure some will be quicker. We've done it in fewer before now. But why I'm especially proud of this is I did it all by myself: no MN, no DH, no thesaurus!

What am I going to do for the next 16 hours?

Another with lots of greens and the words I've tried on the basis of clues haven't helped yet

Am I on the right track?

Pleased with today's. Once I got onto the greens I found the theme quite quickly.

A slight hint - the meaning of the word is subtly different in American English than it is in British English. In American English, it relates directly to the high 900s words which all have the same ending. In British English it's not quite as directly related, but you can still get there and it's nothing specialised. You'll know the word.

I solved #66 in 33 guesses. My first green - 525/1000 - on my 11th guess got me in the groove.

That was a struggle again, got bogged down in specifics after getting bogged down in ridiculous specifics! (716 had me all over the place!)

Phew! I think the amount of time it took me to get a green should have been a bigger clue to me about what the final word was than it was 😂

the answer is a slight variation on other top words...

quite fast for me today -- just 39 guesses & only about 5 greens before I got it.
