Since weve almost managed to fill our 6th thread I thought I should start the next so we have somewhere to sc

If you're lucky enough not to know what I'm on about Semantle is a word game like Wordle. You need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics, not letters. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

We tend to use the threads to rant about how we're getting nowhere, celebrate our successes and laugh about the previous day's top 1000 but please, no spoilers. Subtle hints only here; use DMs for more obvious clues.

Bit frustrating for me as I’ve only ever used this word in one job and almost none of the words relating to that job were green. Grrrrr.

My first green word threw me way off track. But can see how it is works.

I solved Semantle #63 in 152 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 10.61. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #74. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 22.69 (274/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

Went totally down the wrong path with 806 but got there eventually by broadening out.

I solved Semantle #63 in 74 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 10.33. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #26. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 23.21 (367/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

In what feels like a very cheaty way my husband started playing this on his phone this morning. (Without me knowing but we’ve now shared our answers.) Between us we’ve got a huge list of greens! But nowhere near the answer still.

I’m 80 guesses in, I’ve got 940 and 843 (which are basically the same word), a shitload of cold words, and no bloody clue.

At last, found it in 128! That was frustrating, I didn’t get my first green until guess 121.

It’s driving me mad. Every time I get a new highish green which might open up another path, all synonyms are stone cold.

I solved Semantle #63 in 122 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 8.67. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #4. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 37.77 (968/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

Thrown a bit off track at first as my first highish green was 890 and a word I tried to test what turned out to be the correct track was cold.

While I’m moaning - yesterday’s was “present” but both “gift” and “here” were cold. Only words relating to “presenting” were green, the bastards.

First day in a while I haven’t had to resort to trawling online for synonyms or coming here for clues.

Took me over 70 to get a single green today. But actually from there it felt just challenging enough, I didn’t get it by total fluke but didn’t need online thesaurus or clues from here either. Much as I’m always pleased to come in under 50 or so guesses. I think the ones that take around 100 are actually the games I enjoy. Once I’ve passed 150 or so I start to hate it again Grin

Is 890 a bit rubbish? I am not getting anywhere with that theme and it's the only high one I have
In what context would you refer to someone as an 890? Thinking about some other words that might be used in that kind of context might help?

You may need to think around those ideas a bit eg the how or who etc
