Since weve almost managed to fill our 6th thread I thought I should start the next so we have somewhere to sc

If you're lucky enough not to know what I'm on about Semantle is a word game like Wordle. You need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics, not letters. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

We tend to use the threads to rant about how we're getting nowhere, celebrate our successes and laugh about the previous day's top 1000 but please, no spoilers. Subtle hints only here; use DMs for more obvious clues.

Does anyone know what the question marks mean? Confused
I had a word with ??? and when I clicked on the question marks, this pop-up appeared:

Unusual word found! This word is not in the list of "normal" words that we use for the top-1000 list, but it is still similar! (Is it maybe capitalized?)

It wasn't capitalised (sorry - no American spellings for me Grin), but I think I used a word that's probably more British.

I solved Semantle #63 in 45 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 8.67. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #5. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 36.93 (962/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

I got 914 on guess 5 which sent me down a bit of rabbit hole but got there a lot quicker than yesterday!

Aha, @BIWI - thanks, I trying clicking but nothing appeared! - as it happens, I spelled one of those words with an s instead of a z. Grin

Doesn't it automatically correct British spelling to American spelling? I'm sure I've posted words that have been corrected.

I solved Semantle #63 in 400 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 12.46. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #6. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 23.46 (402/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

This is definitely not my field of expertise! I got 890 6 guesses in, and that was very misleading.

The z spelling is appearing lower down than the British spelling! Maybe it didn’t correct because it’s not on their list?

That was a slog! @semantlename 's earlier comment finally made sense when I got some high 990s after struggling for ages with 234 associations. There are a lot of blind alleys with today's.

I solved Semantle #63 in 192 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 5.90. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #2. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 26.55 (710/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

It's ridiculous, isn't it. I'm surprised I managed to get it, but it's nice that there are multiple options and not just one specific trail.
