When I was a late teen I had two letters published in Punch.

Thanks for tge question... it was a simple idea.... the railway has huge areas if land affected by all sorts of engineering risks which cause trains to be diverted or linespeed to be dropped creating crappy journeys for people. I proposed we worked out which plants helped reduce those engineering risks across tge network and tgat we plant accordingly. It was called sustainable lineside. We planted up 9mikes of land and had one mile that was untouched (the control). A route director took my idea told the new CEO it was his idea. That CEO was knighted. He later recommended the route director for an honor fir his contribution to the environment. Do you know what the pillock did? He planted Christmas trees in his area, creating a non native monoculture.

But that's genius! Not the Pillock's planting, but yours!

I am so interested in this sort of landscaping, you fully deserved the recognition that you didn't get. At the risk of derailing the thread, can you tell me a bit about what planting was effective and why?

I didn't go to the same school - my friends lived in the same part of town as Mr C.

Our part of the world was a great place to grow up :) but I moved away at 18 went I went to uni and never went back other than to visit family. Loads of my good school friends are still there - I'm sure we're due a get together!

I have served in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

I used to work with a famous racing drivers Dad. He was really nice professional and a good businessman.

I also once bumped into Donny Osmond and a film crew in a restaurant in Covent Garden

I sat next to a Zambian Minister at a Co dinner in 00's and asked him if the government had signed the Basel Convention. He said, what I already knew - they hadn't. I told him it was necessary so I could ship waste out of the country without contravening international law. 2 days later Zambia signed the Basel Convention.
