Beetroot

What do you think of beetroot? Do you like it or not?

I recently made a beetroot salad for lunch and my partner said - it's sounds lovely but without the beetroot. He hates beetroot.

I recently came across a top 20 or a top 10 world's most hateddl foods. I forget what I came across or if it was a TikTok with the list of foods. I nodded my head along with agreement with many on the list but number 1 took me by surprise. The number 1 food hated by a lot of people was beetroot.

I love beetroot and come to think of it, not many around me like it. My family hates beetroot as does my partner and also some people in work hate it too.

What do you think of beetroot? Do you like it or not?

the pickled stuff in a jar is vile.

GeneLovesJezebel · 25/03/2022 12:14

I love fresh beetroot. I’m fairly sure it’s full of things that are good for you too.

Kezzie200 · 25/03/2022 12:15

I love beetroot. I prefer fresh. But I have a soft spot for pickled too.

SummersBreeze · 25/03/2022 12:17

I'm not a fan of the beetroot in a jar, but the beetroot in a packet that you buy in the vegetable aisles - I like that one.

I love making a beetroot dip which is beetroot and creme fraice.

I made a beetroot soup for my lunch today.

Love it!!

Not sure about beetroot soup though

ODFOx · 25/03/2022 12:23

It's a regular in our house as it is something everyone likes. It is lovely roasted alongside carrots etc with a roast dinner, and is liked by the DC more that swede, turnip or celeriac as it is denser in texture and not to 'wet'.

changingstages · 25/03/2022 12:24

it's so good for you. Unfortunately I really, really hate it. I've tried so hard. I've baked it into cakes. I've made soups and stews and roasted it and grated it and I just have to admit that I loathe the stuff and give up.

IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble · 25/03/2022 12:25

A fresh beetroot & cucumber sandwich on thick white bread with salad cream is one of the most wonderful things in the world!

ODFOx · 25/03/2022 12:25

Not *SO 'wet'.
Plus, for sheer fun in the kitchen, I love it when it's been baked wrapped in foil and I peel it by donning rubber gloves and just sliding off the skins with my thumbs. It's so satisfying!

CandyCaneLane0 · 25/03/2022 12:26

Love pickled beetroot

Phormiumjester · 25/03/2022 12:28

I think the pickled sliced stuff that left hideous stains on your 1980s school and tainted your chips put me off . Salad day at primary school usually involved luncheon meat and beetroot. Grim.

Peasandcabbage · 25/03/2022 12:28

Absolutely love it, pickled, fresh, all ways!

Patienceisntvirtuous · 25/03/2022 12:28

I love it fresh and grated but not pickled

WellThatsMeScrewed · 25/03/2022 12:28

Eating it right now. Love it.

@SummersBreeze can I have your dip recipe that sounds lovely.

Bunty55 · 25/03/2022 12:28

Love Beetroot in any form. I could eat a jar of it with a fork and be in Beetrooty heaven. Beetroot salad right up my street, fresh and yummy

WellThatsMeScrewed · 25/03/2022 12:29

Just to add don’t like the jar stuff but like the salad ones - vacuum packed. But also love it fresh roasted

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 25/03/2022 12:30

We love it in all forms in this hose and grow it.
Dmum hates it, says it tastes of dirt, which I kind of get.

Crunchymum · 25/03/2022 12:30

Having some chill beetroot as we speak. Was going to make a proper lunch but got waylaid with its deliciousness.

Crunchymum · 25/03/2022 12:31

*chilli beetroot

JulJul · 25/03/2022 12:31

I love beetroot. It's really tasty, especially baked in the oven with olive oil and seasonings.

Kezzie200 · 25/03/2022 12:33

Beetroot soup is lovely with crumbled feta on top. We call it vampire soup though!

Member278307 · 25/03/2022 12:34

Very good for you if you suffer with high blood pressure

BeanyBops · 25/03/2022 12:34

I love beetroot! Plain or pickled, beetroot salad (not the watery one with carrot, eugh), there's a nice beetroot salad dressing you can get too. Definitely roasted. Beetroot crisps. Dead good. Buy no DH doesn't like it either.

I'm off to look up beetroot soup now! Xx

SummersBreeze · 25/03/2022 12:35

It's lovely. It was served as an appetizer when I went visiting Australia a few years ago. I fell in love with it. I never got a recipe. There's some recipes online but I make my own. I take about 2 round beets and I chop them up. Then I get the handheld blender and blend them up til smooth. Then I dump some tablespoons of creme fraice in and mix it all up.
