Beetroot

What do you think of beetroot? Do you like it or not?

I recently made a beetroot salad for lunch and my partner said - it's sounds lovely but without the beetroot. He hates beetroot.

I recently came across a top 20 or a top 10 world's most hateddl foods. I forget what I came across or if it was a TikTok with the list of foods. I nodded my head along with agreement with many on the list but number 1 took me by surprise. The number 1 food hated by a lot of people was beetroot.

I love beetroot and come to think of it, not many around me like it. My family hates beetroot as does my partner and also some people in work hate it too.

What do you think of beetroot? Do you like it or not?

I’m english and was brought up having beetroot in salad, either fresh or pickled.
Husband is scottish and has beetroot on the side of say, cottage pie, or beef casserole, but never in salad

I love it. We call it just "beets" in Canada.

I like it any which way, including soup which is called borsht (we have many Canadians of Ukrainian heritage.

I love the tops cooked like Swiss chard. My dear late Mom absolutely loved them.

I like pickled beets with cottage pie.

I have been watching the Great British Menu and notice that many of the chefs use beetroot.

Beetroot should be adopted as the national vegetable of Australia, it's use is so widespread. On the coat of arms, even. Think about it we could eat all our national symbols: kangaroo, emu and beetroot.

I adored beetroot before coming here and pleased to see it routine in burgers and even MacDonalds caved in and made the Aussie Angus (horrid apparently).

Anyway, I still love it, pickled, boiled and roasted.

I love all beetroot. I'm going to google and see how to grow it.

I love the stuff in jars but it has to be really pickaliy.

I've been known to drink a bit of the juice.
I know I am vile

@SummersBreeze

The world is your beetroot

I make a Beetroot, potato and horseradish mash to top a cottage pie. It works a treat.
My only bug bare with Beetroot is that whenever I see it in restaurants it’s always paired with goats cheese, which is my arch nemesis.

Love fresh, boiled or baked beetroot, not pickled. Make different salads and soup.

longwayoff · 26/03/2022 00:17

This reminds me, Branston was selling a beetroot pickle a couple of years ago, must try to track some down.

notprincehamlet · 26/03/2022 02:02

Love a bit of beetroot - but the fresh stuff does leave the kitchen looking like a crime scene

echt · 26/03/2022 03:37

This thread inspired me to buy raw beetroot, as well as beetroot seeds, today.

garlictwist · 26/03/2022 04:09

I have only eaten beetroot once in my life. In 1991. I was 8 and forced to eat it at school dinner. It was such a horrific experience I am not get ready to try it again.

Boopeedoop · 26/03/2022 04:17

I hate it and it tastes really mouldy to me, or like soil. I just can't face it at all, it totally overpowers everything if it's in a dish. I ate it happily as a child and it didn't taste like that though so it's as if my taste buds have changed? I wonder if it's like coriander in that some people taste it differently?

Rubyupbeat · 26/03/2022 06:48

Beetroot smell literally makes me heave.
I put it down to being forced to eat it in school.

nicesausages · 26/03/2022 07:07

The Stokes Sauces beetroot pickle is heavenly! I love a good big dollop of it on a ham salad with lots of tomatoes too 😋

GeneLovesJezebel · 26/03/2022 07:31

Inspired by this thread I went on Tesco on-line to add a beetroot chutney or similar to my order, nothing. Many types of beetroot in a jar, crinkle cut/ shredded etc, but no chutney.

justjuggling · 26/03/2022 07:58

I love beetroot in all forms!!

YingMei · 26/03/2022 10:50

JayAlfredPrufrock · 26/03/2022 16:37

I made a beetroot Wellington recently. Had you grate the cooked beetroot. It was bloody everywhere.

Justanotherobserver · 26/03/2022 16:40

Was it any good?
