Beetroot

What do you think of beetroot? Do you like it or not?

I recently made a beetroot salad for lunch and my partner said - it's sounds lovely but without the beetroot. He hates beetroot.

I recently came across a top 20 or a top 10 world's most hateddl foods. I forget what I came across or if it was a TikTok with the list of foods. I nodded my head along with agreement with many on the list but number 1 took me by surprise. The number 1 food hated by a lot of people was beetroot.

I love beetroot and come to think of it, not many around me like it. My family hates beetroot as does my partner and also some people in work hate it too.

What do you think of beetroot? Do you like it or not?

Not keen on pickled but love any other kind. I grew a variety of different coloured ones last year and sowed some more last weekend. DH hates beetroot so I get to eat almost all of it.

LOVE it. In any form. Alone or in a meal.

Try not to forget you've had it when you use the toilet...

I love it! pickled or otherwise.

An absolute essential to have canned beetroot on a burger in Australia. Delicious, plus the challenge of trying to avoid getting beetroot juice stains on your clothes while eating the burger.

I don't think I've ever had fresh beetroot.

Canned baby beets were heaps of fun to eat when I was a child. Actually, they still are.

Gunpowder · 25/03/2022 13:56

I like it. DS (4) is obsessed! My favourite thing is fresh beetroot and fennel juice.

DFOD · 25/03/2022 14:01

Do you have to peel it to roast it? Or just scrub it like carrots?

What other veg does it go well with when roasting?

What would you season with?

Would garlic or chilli oil work? Or not?

We roast broccoli and cauliflower in chilli oil and garlic and it’s great - not sure beetroot would work?

Auntieobem · 25/03/2022 14:02

It's one of the very few foods which I absolutely hate. I'd like to like it, but it's horrible, and contaminates everything else with its gross beetroot pinkies. Bleurgh

ShinyS1 · 25/03/2022 14:02

I love beetroot, pickled in a jar or in those vaccum packs, but my favourite is fresh boiled beetroot, love the smell of it boiling and love the fresh sweet taste. Really suprised it was No1 hated food.

Now goat's cheese or celariac...yuk, they're my No1's.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 25/03/2022 14:06

A family fav is a mixed lettuce, beetroot and goat's cheese salad

DS went through a stage of drinking beetroot shots for his sporting performance

Oooh I love beetroot.

I find it's very underrated, same as rhubarb.

NannyGythaOgg · 25/03/2022 14:08

Love it fresh and love it pickled too.
In fact I need to get some now.

I used to hate it for this very reason. It was a staple of the classic 1970s/80s salad plate - slice of ham, boiled egg, round lettuce, salad cream and pickled beetroot and the beetroot would make everything else pink Angry I have grown to love it though and actually had it for my lunch today in a 2020s salad of green lentils, beetroot and feta with walnuts. DS used to love homemade beetroot and apple soup when he was a toddler but I had to warn nursery when he had it as it would make his poo a truly terrifying colour!

Beetroot sauerkraut is the best. Especially on hummus toast. Mmmmm.

Hopeforall · 25/03/2022 14:13

I love beetroot soup and borscht but one drop spilt on tablecloth or clothes is extremely hard to remove so I don’t often make it.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 25/03/2022 14:21

Betroot jam. With ginger and almonds in.

deadlanguage · 25/03/2022 14:56

I love beetroot but not when pickled. Roasted beetroot is lush.

GeneLovesJezebel · 25/03/2022 14:56

When you roast it, is it the uncooked one with the leaves still on, in a bunch that you buy ?

deadlanguage · 25/03/2022 14:58

@ShinyS1 I'm with you on celeriac. It's like a godforsaken combo of two already gross foods, celery and turnip. Yuck.

deadlanguage · 25/03/2022 14:59

@GeneLovesJezebel yes that's what I get. Just peel and chop into wedges, drizzle with oil and roast

Usingit · 25/03/2022 15:00

I prefer golden beetroot which we grow in the garden as it is nearly impossible to buy, Waitrose used to sell it in their organic section but I haven't seen it for about years now. Red beetroot is ok for when we haven't got the golden

Daftasabroom · 25/03/2022 15:02

Onion, beetroot and carrot bajis are awesome.

thaegumathteth · 25/03/2022 15:04

Fresh beetroot ✅

Jarred stuff is rank

Fresh beetroot is fab. I have a great beetroot soup recipe. It's great with goats cheese in a salad and roasted.
Off to find some seeds to plant .

Do you have a recipe ?
