What do you think of beetroot? Do you like it or not?

I recently made a beetroot salad for lunch and my partner said - it's sounds lovely but without the beetroot. He hates beetroot.

I recently came across a top 20 or a top 10 world's most hateddl foods. I forget what I came across or if it was a TikTok with the list of foods. I nodded my head along with agreement with many on the list but number 1 took me by surprise. The number 1 food hated by a lot of people was beetroot.

I love beetroot and come to think of it, not many around me like it. My family hates beetroot as does my partner and also some people in work hate it too.

What do you think of beetroot? Do you like it or not?

@Member278307

Very good for you if you suffer with high blood pressure
I am living beetroot lately because of this reason. I had some high blood pressure earlier in the year and I have to adopt some lifestyle measures so beetroot is featuring in my diet now every week.

My plan is to make a beetroot sauce for pasta another day. I can't wait.

I'm growing more this year than before. I love it roasted and I can always give it to my beetroot obsessed neighbour.

babybunny123 · 25/03/2022 12:42

Love beetroot, my dad used to grow it and my mum would have a special beetroot pan to boil it in as it stains so much. Could not wait for it to be cooked and cooled and sliced up on salads. I love the earthy taste.

Kite22 · 25/03/2022 12:43

I really like it, but, am the only one in my family that does. dh passionately hates it.

LittleDiaries · 25/03/2022 12:44

I love beetroot. I buy it fresh by the bunch and cook it - either boiled if I want to slice it for salads or sandwiches or roast it in chunks with other root veg for dinner. Fortunately DH also loves beetroot and so do the DC.

ISpyCobraKai · 25/03/2022 12:48

I love it, fresh or pickled.

Dacquoise · 25/03/2022 12:51

Love it!

Nigel Slaters Chocolate Beetroot Cake is amazing and has converted a few beetroot haters.

DragonOverTheMoon · 25/03/2022 12:53

I love it fresh or pickled!

HollyHocks13 · 25/03/2022 12:57

I love beetroot but I don't enjoy peeling them - they stain your hands so much it looks like you've committed a very bloody murder!
I love them roasted in a bit of olive oil, in chocolate cakes or in risotto (they make it very pink!)

I made a beetroot smoothie last week and it was lovely. I used 1 beetroot and 1 banana with some honey and I forget what I used after that. It was either coconut milk or coconut water.

I love it. I make lovely beetroot chutney and pickled beetroot, and I pickle eggs in the vinegar when the beetroot is finished. I also like beetroot flapjacks.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 25/03/2022 13:11

I like beetroot.

Crazykatie · 25/03/2022 13:19

Last year we had traditional purple beetroot and some golden beetroot,
Some I pickled, most we roasted for Sunday lunch as we would parsnips or carrots both were lovely.

Brownlongearedbat · 25/03/2022 13:21

I used to grow loads of it when I had an allotment - it is one of the easier veg. to grow. One of my favourite ways to have it was to cook, peel and slice it, then make a dressing with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, bit of honey, dollop of grain mustard and a couple of minced garlic cloves poured over the still warm beetroot. Delicious. The young leaves can also be eaten in a salad instead of lettuce.
The only thing with beetroot is it makes your pee red. I forgot I had eaten some once and thought something was seriously wrong with me! (Has a similar effect on poo too).

JemimaTiggywinkle · 25/03/2022 13:22

Ooh I’ve not had beetroot for ages, love it.
DH says it tastes of soil - which is true, but I like it.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 25/03/2022 13:23

I love it but often when I buy a jar of pickled baby beets, I have them once & then they get left in the fridge. No idea why! Love fresh beetroot too. DM used to make a veggie crumble with beetroot which was absolutely delicious! DH still talks about the time she served it with custard as she’d defrosted the wrong crumble lol 🤣

iklboo · 25/03/2022 13:35

@Brownlongearedbat - OMG that sounds delicious. Think I'll add beetroot to my shop this week. I love the stuff, DH doesn't mind either way and DS hates it so more for me!

LittleDiaries · 25/03/2022 13:37

I completely terrified our window cleaner once when I'd been peeling and chopping beetroot. He saw my hands all covered in what he thought was blood and was on the point of rushing me to a&e Grin We had a good laugh about it.
LaraDeSalle · 25/03/2022 13:37

Beetroot is hideous.

Easterbunnyiswindowshopping · 25/03/2022 13:38

I love the finesse of your recipe op...
Dumping creme fraiche is very appealing!!

Memyselfandfood · 25/03/2022 13:39

I love all beetroot

emuloc · 25/03/2022 13:40

I really like it, as long as it in not pickled in vinegar.
