Semantle thread 4 is almost full and there's still plenty of love (and hate 🤣) for the game, so here's a new thread for Sunday's game.

If you're lucky enough not to know what I'm on about Semantle is a word game like Wordle. You need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics, not letters. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

I solved Semantle #53 in 62 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 14.37. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #15. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 16.14. https://semantle.novalis.org/

@SouperNoodle if you said you had been 990 in a film, what might have happened to you?

Better than recent days, but considering I got 926 on my first guess, it still took a fair bit of dancing round the answer before I got it!

I solved Semantle #53 in 30 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 40.66 (926/1000).My penultimate guess had a similarity of 21.69. semantle.novalis.org/

Randomly found it… and no idea how the word I had are even vaguely related never mind in the 900’s!

That gave me a massive clue after I'd been stuck on 230 as my highest green for ages.

Tricky today but enjoyable. Got there via a very specific theme!

Saw a clue on here before I'd got any greens and got it! Feels a bit like I've cheated though which I've never thought before.

Got it! @darmar you got me to 990, then the clue @InMySpareTime gave to SouperNoodle got me from there to the answer. Phew!

How on earth does Quordle work? It's like Wordle with bingo cards!

Quordle and the higher ones require a completely different approach to Wordle. Instead of guessing what you think it might be and refining, you sort of have to get tactical and guess other letters that you haven't used, move letters around etc.

Well that was quite a dark route!

@BertieBotts I got 3 out of 4 on my first go on Quordle. Think I might have to add that to my list of daily distractions! I can see it's much more tactical after a few silly errors.

Well I never… lucky guess in the 600s then bam! Quite a difference from yesterday.

For Quordle, Octodle and Sedeacondle I have 3 words covering 15 common letters. Then I work through logically.

Completely stuck on 990

I solved Semantle #53 in 221 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 18.87. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #95. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 34.48 (770/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

One of those there I thought I'd tried the word before!

I solved Semantle #53 in 126 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 1.44. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #35. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 31.23 (605/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

I got 709 first and went down some entertaining routes with limited success until I changed it a bit and went right up to 974. 876 gave it to me, in combination with other guesses, but quite a specific context I think!

@weebarra me too - there are so many directions you can go with 990...

I also have 954 which is pointing me down a specific path, but I'm not convinced that is right.

990 is not the 954 context, it's much faster.

I am stuck on 990 and this isn't helping me and I don't know why. @Supernoodle. Do you mean if you had been "A 990" or just '990"?
