Cannot function without a shower!

Am I the only one?

Becomes a bit annoying some days I'd just like to get up and go but always have to shower and wash and dry hair as it's so fine a greasy. If I don't get a shower I feel self conscious all day and spend ages trying to sort hair I may s well have had a shower! Very occasionally I will pop to the shop for milk. The. It's blow dry make up and outfits.

Only exceptions are going to gym and on a sunbathing holiday.

How can I get an evening shower and still feel ok the next day? I'm 42 by the way!

Oh I’m the same. 44. But can’t do a thing without 2 coffees and a shower 🤣

cherrypiepie · 18/03/2022 19:33

@tigerbird me too! Exactly the same two coffees and a shower.

I’ve always had two showers, a shower and a bath or three showers if I’ve been to the gym or done something dirty (behave- I mean gardening).
I never feel clean unless I shower, I feel crumpled, I used to walk my dog an hour before work whatever the weather- have to shower. Each to their own though.

jupitermars1345 · 18/03/2022 19:39

I have to shower every morning even if I do the evening before
I sweat a lot over night and just can't stand the feeling if I don't

Sparklingbrook · 18/03/2022 19:41

I have a shower every morning. On the very rare occasions that I go out without having one it feels wrong.
I also shower before bed, just because I like to.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 18/03/2022 19:42

Spray dry shampoo in your hair the night before. Don’t brush it out, leave it to soak up the grease overnight and you’ll wake up with nice fresh hair.

If you can reduce the amount you wash your hair it will become less greasy. My hair is quite fine but I’ve got my hair washing down to twice a week (and don’t use dry shampoo often). I find using conditioner makes it get greasy much quicker so I just use it once every few washes.

DramaAlpaca · 18/03/2022 19:42

Same here. I can't function until I've had a shower and two mugs of tea. I feel manky if I don't shower in the morning.

TheChosenTwo · 18/03/2022 19:45

I shower every morning before work, it wakes me up and gives me a bit of time on my own to contemplate my life choices Grin
I don’t wash my hair though, it’s too time consuming (the drying and styling process) and it doesn’t need washing that often.
I usually have a more leisurely bath in the Evening.
At weekends, I can wait it out until an evening bath if I’m not rushing out first thing. I don’t feel especially grubby and like I can’t live with myself without a morning shower, lots of people say they can’t physically function without one but I’m fine at weekends when I’m more relaxed about time.

UserError012345 · 18/03/2022 19:52

Me too. Always shower without fail. Can't go to shop without being washed. Also have to wash hair every day too. It's a massive ball ache.

Doboopedoo · 18/03/2022 19:54

This is me. Greasy fine hair as well. I don’t even like when I have a shower but don’t wash my hair.

And yes, I know washing it less often is better for it but I just can’t do it Hmm

Steelesauce · 18/03/2022 20:07

I wish I could get up early enough to do this, I'm such a sloth. I always have elaborate long leisurely baths in an evening instead. And my hair can only be washed once a week as it is so long and thick it takes hours and I do not have the energy to deal with it more often.

DetailMouse · 18/03/2022 20:10

A shower takes 5 mins and makes all the difference. I have to be very ill indeed before I don't have one, even on a sick day.

I don't go downstairs in the morning until I'm showered and dressed, even at the weekend. I like the idea of a lazy morning, but the reality is I just feel scuzzy.

Pixiesfan · 18/03/2022 20:14

Oh yes, this is me! I feel disgusting if I haven't showered and washed my hair. I even used to have a shower before going out for a run! I just about managed to resist washing my hair ...

I don't shower if I'm literally getting out of bed and running, but if I'm going out mid morning for a race or a run with friends, I'd still shower when I get up.
EdHelpPls · 18/03/2022 20:37

Coffee, shower, second coffee :)
I tried to wash my hair less over the first lockdown. I tried every other day but I felt gross by lunchtime of the second day, even though we weren't going anywhere or seeing anyone. Tried adding dry shampoo at end of first day, tried the morning of second day, even tried putting it on pretty much as soon as my hair was dry after a shower...only thing that made a difference was having it tied up all the time, which I hate, and it only got me an extra few hours.
I just embrace it now.

StripeyDeckchair · 18/03/2022 20:53

I'm the same, have to have a shower in the morning doesn't matter what time I have to go out in the morning, I'll still get up with enough time to shower.

TMI I suspect but I 'm a real snuggler in bed & tuck the duvet round me so only my face shows. I can be quite sweaty in the morning.

seashellsunderthesand · 18/03/2022 20:59

To be honest I have my own theories about people who say they can't function without certain things. To me it's a outward sign of the way they keep themselves together, a way of keeping control of their life. The more things that are "necessary" the more they need to feel in control.
I think these things are often a "safe" version of smoking/ drinking/ etc. So if you need a shower to function then so be it. I don't but then I have other necessities that maybe others wouldn't " need" so each to their own.

Chewbecca · 18/03/2022 21:07

My hair has got dryer through menopause so doesn’t show the lank / grease anymore BUT I still have to shower every morning to feel alive, I still feel v sleepy until my head has been pummelled with water.

weebarra · 18/03/2022 21:39

I absolutely don't feel clean if I don't have a shower. I use it for me time, to wake up, to prepare for my day. I have very greasy hair and it will only last a day and a half. DS1 (14) is the same. DS2 is a midden and would go weeks without!

Blossom64265 · 18/03/2022 21:43

I don’t feel clean without a shower, but for me it has to be at night.

You mentioned wanting an evening shower. Could you shower and wash hair in the evening and then do dry shampoo in the morning? Or if that isn’t enough, do a quick rinse shower on your body and dry shampoo for your hair in the morning?

SilverGlassHare · 18/03/2022 21:45

I wouldn’t feel clean without a shower in the morning. In summer is also sometimes have a quick shower to cool down before bed but I’d rather not because it doesn’t feel environmentally friendly to shower twice a day.

ChipButtyCurrySauce · 18/03/2022 21:48

2 coffees and a shower here too! I'm 46. Can't function otherwise.
VladmirsPoutine · 18/03/2022 21:54

Poverty aside I will never understand how showering for so many people is seen as something negotiable Confused

Iamkmackered1979 · 18/03/2022 21:57

I don’t have a shower
Temp accommodation which is fun with an incontinent 10 year old and 3 other kids. No tiles above bath or sinks it’s just quite grim tbh
So I function without but one day I’ll have a shower again

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 18/03/2022 22:19

I can’t function if I don’t have one every other day. In the summer it’s usually every morning and sometimes in the afternoon.
