Cannot function without a shower!

Am I the only one?

Becomes a bit annoying some days I'd just like to get up and go but always have to shower and wash and dry hair as it's so fine a greasy. If I don't get a shower I feel self conscious all day and spend ages trying to sort hair I may s well have had a shower! Very occasionally I will pop to the shop for milk. The. It's blow dry make up and outfits.

Only exceptions are going to gym and on a sunbathing holiday.

How can I get an evening shower and still feel ok the next day? I'm 42 by the way!

I could function but would feel I was being rude to go anywhere without having had one before getting dressed. There are too many smelly people, some of whom I know don't have the option to be as clean as they or others would like, and I don't want to increase that number.

@rainbowandglitter

Showering that much is so bad for the environment and for your skin though. I just couldn't do it.
You aren't in the greasy hair club clearly. Anyway, my shower timer reduces my environmental impact
Whatdramain2022 · 19/03/2022 07:58

I hate showers. I have a new build and there is some kind of water regulator that reduces water use. It means that there's a weak stream of water. My DH has tried to fix it, but it's buried in the wall! All the neighbours have tried new shower heads etc., but nothing really works. I was born in the days of the weekly bath, so find this "must have three showers a day" difficult to understand. We didn't stink, we weren't dirty back then. I have a daily bath now, but with utility bills skyrocketing (already 150%) , I may have to go back to the old days of a quick wash with a flannel.

Whattochoosenow · 19/03/2022 08:02

I also think the amount of showering is likely to reduce with the hike in energy prices. People will either have to shower less often or for a much shorter time.
When we were kids someone had a bath first then someone else got in after. If you were last in the water was almost cold!

I shower every morning. I sweat a lot and walk everywhere because I can't drive, so I'm not going out anywhere without a morning shower.

What would you have done in the 1950s when nobody had a shower and baths were usually on a Sunday, so you were clean for the week ahead?

It's always the same type of people who 'debate' these things Grin

@Iamkmackered1979
I hope you don't have to wait much longer and things get better for you and your family.

I do shower every morning and freshen up before bed. I wash my hair every 3 days but have recently started to use a tonic on my thinning hair so I have dry and style it every morning now.

GiantHaystacks2021 · 19/03/2022 09:51

Snap.

I need a shower every single day.
I can't bank days. I have to have a shower every morning.
I have greasy hair, a greasy face and my nethers always need a daily wash or else I can smell myself.
I feel very out of sorts if I can't get my shower. I've done some trips abroad where I couldn't get a shower every day and I hated that.

Unfortunately for me, I'm not one of the chosen few with dry hair and skin who can strut out of the house unwashed, with no makeup, ungroomed, in a bikini or whatever.
I need ALL the help I can get.

GiantHaystacks2021 · 19/03/2022 09:58

@scrivette

Those who can't function without a shower or three, I take it you ever go to festivals or you would spend most of your day queuing for showers!
That's one of the many reasons I never go to festivals actually.
RicherThanYew · 19/03/2022 10:01

It's a pain in the arris Op, I've been like it since I was 14 and I've tried reprogramming my brain to accept walking through the day like a filthy midden but nothing works, can't do jack without a shower or bath.

Thirkettle · 19/03/2022 10:02

Shower in the morning, obviously, and if you like an evening shower do that too. Do both.

Bingo.

There it is.

Always one.

When your hair and skin is as greasy as mine is, then you'll be qualified to turn your nose up at a daily shower.
If not, then you have no clue how awful it is to have very greasy hair and skin. Lucky you.

courgettigreensadwater · 19/03/2022 10:15

@Northernsoullover what shower timer do you have?

nearlyspringyay · 19/03/2022 10:16

Lockdown was a revelation to my fine great hair. The less I washed it the better it was. I always shower after the gym but don't necessarily shampoo, I've gone from every day hair wash and faff to every three days, four at a push.

deadlanguage · 19/03/2022 10:21

Are you using the right shampoo for your hair? I’m surprised it’s so greasy at your age.

I shower circa every other day, planned around exercise. If I shower daily my skin complains.

TabithaTittlemouse · 19/03/2022 10:24

I like a shower to help me wake up but don’t NEED to shower to function.
We camp a lot. Baby wipes and dry shampoo are a must.

Iamkmackered1979 · 19/03/2022 10:27

@Harrriet thank you, me too. You do get used to it but looking forward to having a shower again, washing hair in the bath isn’t great 😊

ForAFriend123 · 19/03/2022 10:37

We have the shittest shower/water pressure on the planet and no plans to replace it until other renovations are finished Sad
Hate not having a shower in the morning!

DetailMouse · 19/03/2022 11:21

What would you have done in the 1950s when nobody had a shower and baths were usually on a Sunday, so you were clean for the week ahead?

Standards were different and people smelt. You don't notice it when everyone smells.

bellac11 · 19/03/2022 11:25

It wakes me up (as best I can be woken up), I have to have a shower to function really.

Billandben444 · 19/03/2022 11:25

🤣🤣🤣

Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/03/2022 11:27

@Whatdramain2022 I don't live in the 1950s, so I don't need to think about what I would have done then. It's irrelevant.

bellac11 · 19/03/2022 11:28

@DetailMouse

Having a shower is quicker and easier than having a "proper" wash. Surely no one goes anywhere in the morning without at least washing face and pits and bits? May as well have a shower.
Yes this is something I have wondered, when we had our bathroom out of order, I tried with the sink and flannel (had to buy a flannel, dont even own one) and found it messy, loads of water everywhere and also took ages, and still didnt feel as fresh as I would like.

I was going to say the exact same. Shall we all discuss how differently our lives might be if we were living in a different decade Hmm
