Cannot function without a shower!

Am I the only one?

Becomes a bit annoying some days I'd just like to get up and go but always have to shower and wash and dry hair as it's so fine a greasy. If I don't get a shower I feel self conscious all day and spend ages trying to sort hair I may s well have had a shower! Very occasionally I will pop to the shop for milk. The. It's blow dry make up and outfits.

Only exceptions are going to gym and on a sunbathing holiday.

How can I get an evening shower and still feel ok the next day? I'm 42 by the way!

I think it's habit, just getting used to the feeling of it. I feel the same now, but thinking about it we didn't have a shower when I was growing up, or in the first decade or so of marriage, and it didn't bother me then.

So it's become something I've got used to I think.

SpeckledlyHen · 18/03/2022 22:25

I am the same, literally cannot start the day without washing. I always read with interest the people on here who are shower shirkers and considered them rank as..

Until, a very good friend of mine starting staying at my house since i moved away. before we were neighbours so i did not know her habits. She has now stayed with me 5 times over long weekends and does not shower when here. She is very glamorous, never smells, and takes great care of herself in many ways so i have to conclude I am just a sweaty mess that is unusual in needing a daily or twice daily shower,

SpeckledlyHen · 18/03/2022 22:30

@DetailMouse

A shower takes 5 mins and makes all the difference. I have to be very ill indeed before I don't have one, even on a sick day.

I don't go downstairs in the morning until I'm showered and dressed, even at the weekend. I like the idea of a lazy morning, but the reality is I just feel scuzzy.

exactly this, even sick I have a shower. If I am having a duvet day I get up, have a shower, put on clean pj's and then slob out (rare). I don't know why but showering in the morning is like cleaning teeth or having a poo, it just needs doing before I can function.
PaperMonster · 18/03/2022 22:32

I have fine, greasy hair and have to shower and wash my hair every morning otherwise I feel horrible. And no, leaving longer between washes does not make mine less greasy. Been trying that one on and off for the past forty years without success.

BoredZelda · 18/03/2022 23:00

I hate showering in the morning. I tend to do it the night before then just wash in the morning.

moanriver · 18/03/2022 23:24

No, I can function without a shower. Even without two or three showers a day. Wow, who'd have thought it?

SaltedEggplant · 18/03/2022 23:28

It's a bath for me rather than a shower. But same!

Sunnytwobridges · 18/03/2022 23:59

I absolutely can not go to bed without a shower. And I get sweaty at night so have to take one in the AM. If I end up working out in the middle of the day or going on a late night out I will shower again. I must feel nasty and can’t imagine putting on clean clothes on a dirty body lol

SquirrelG · 19/03/2022 02:21

I'm with you.

starrynight21 · 19/03/2022 02:28

I love Suzi888 description "I never feel clean unless I shower, I feel crumpled" that sums it up exactly. I always shower twice a day for that reason - I feel crumpled if I don't.

Billandben444 · 19/03/2022 05:17

@SpeckledlyHen
literally cannot start the day without washing.
What, literally?? So if we got the 3-minute warning you'd be a gonner, wouldn't you? Get a grip!
I agree with the PP who reckons it's a control thing to have your life ruled by showers and coffees and in what order.

scrivette · 19/03/2022 06:12

Those who can't function without a shower or three, I take it you ever go to festivals or you would spend most of your day queuing for showers!

scrivette · 19/03/2022 06:12

'Never' go to festivals

StarlightLady · 19/03/2022 06:15

First thing in the morning and after work for me.

Jamn50 · 19/03/2022 06:24

Shower every morning. Regardless of when my children were first born or if I’m ill. If I haven’t showered done my teeth and skin care I feel uncomfortable. In the summer it’s morning and evening as I get hot.

Nameandgamechange123 · 19/03/2022 06:44

Great thread.....
I sometimes get up and shower and hair wash before work, go for a swim then have another shower and hair wash then get up and repeat.
At the weekend I shower and hair wash before going for a workout (my hair is literally so gone and greasy that I Have to do this otherwise I look terrible) then have another shower and hairwash afterwards. Then if I go out in the evening, I will have ANOTHER shower and hairwash beforehand.
It must feel lovely to not have to do this

GeorgiaGirl52 · 19/03/2022 07:00

@jupitermars1345

I have to shower every morning even if I do the evening before I sweat a lot over night and just can't stand the feeling if I don't
Me too
Howeverdoyouneedme · 19/03/2022 07:15

It’s something I feel like I need more than I used to. I used to get up very early for work and as I lived in cold houses I would have showered the night before. But now I would feel less ‘together’. I feel very fortunate that I can shower everyday.

Oblomov22 · 19/03/2022 07:27

I'm the opposite. Showers don't invigorate me or make me feel that much better, but I just do it as a matter of course. I have greasy hair. I often don't. If I'm not going out and just slobbing around the house, ironing and hoovering, on a day off. I don't get dressed, I'm in my dressing gown as default. I often have a bath mid morning.

Nietzschethehiker · 19/03/2022 07:27

I think everyone just their own rituals thay they feel they need to function during the day. In truth for a moment without considering the environment there's nothing wrong with it inherently. The main issue is when people who have a different ritual are disgusting or gross. Or someone else is wierd for what they need. Honestly everyone's system works for them , it's only when people choose to comment or be prissy about others that it's an issue.

However if you are concerned about the environment and want for yourself to change it , then look at it as a ritual , something you need to replace with another one. Everyone has those things they need to cope.

Some it's coffee in a certain way , some it's a shower , if you need to drop one make sure you find a way to replace it.

GeneLovesJezebel · 19/03/2022 07:29

I would feel dirty if I didn’t shower in the morning, then it’s a shower or bath at night.

LovelyQuiche · 19/03/2022 07:34

I think the difference between those who shower every morning and those that don’t is sweat. Sweaty people need to, non sweaty people don’t

I’m a non sweaty person and I shower every other day, unless I’ve been to the gym

Chocomelon · 19/03/2022 07:36

YABU to say "get a shower" and start another daily showering thread BUT YANBU to shower every day. I have a young baby and I manage to get up and shower every morning.

rainbowandglitter · 19/03/2022 07:36

Showering that much is so bad for the environment and for your skin though. I just couldn't do it.

DetailMouse · 19/03/2022 07:38

Having a shower is quicker and easier than having a "proper" wash. Surely no one goes anywhere in the morning without at least washing face and pits and bits? May as well have a shower.
