Cannot function without a shower!

Am I the only one?

Becomes a bit annoying some days I'd just like to get up and go but always have to shower and wash and dry hair as it's so fine a greasy. If I don't get a shower I feel self conscious all day and spend ages trying to sort hair I may s well have had a shower! Very occasionally I will pop to the shop for milk. The. It's blow dry make up and outfits.

Only exceptions are going to gym and on a sunbathing holiday.

How can I get an evening shower and still feel ok the next day? I'm 42 by the way!

I don't need a shower to function. I see it as a real chore. I shower every other evening and wash my hair maybe twice a week.

I do need a brew before I do much in a morning though.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/03/2022 11:33

@Chocomelon such a stupid argument isn't it.

DetailMouse · 19/03/2022 11:36

@Billandben444

Standards were different and people smelt. You don't notice it when everyone smells. 🤣🤣🤣
You don't. That's why it's OK to mix with people who haven't washed for days at festivals but not in the office
reluctantbrit · 19/03/2022 11:38

I need a shower to wake up properly. I have a pixie cut so hair is a. After of a minute to wash and a minute to dry.

I do not understand how people can shower in the evening and then go to sleep and not shower on the morning. I feel gross after sleeping and we all sweat overnight. I would spend mire tome washing properly than jumping in the shower.

rainbowandglitter · 19/03/2022 11:42

For those quoting my post saying I don't have greasy hair or skin. I do actually have very oily skin and hair. Overwashing actually makes it worse. There are products out there for greasy skin and hair that don't involve washing every day or twice a day in some people's cases.

Longingforatikihut · 19/03/2022 11:43

I won't leave the house without a morning shower. I tie my hair back wet and don't wear make-up but I just can't face the outside world without a shower.

nancyclancy123 · 19/03/2022 11:49

I have very dry, thick hair so can get away with washing it once, maybe twice a week. But I still have to shower every morning. I feel really scummy if I don’t!

mizu · 19/03/2022 11:58

I cannot do without a shower in the morning. I don't drink coffee ( or tea, never have) so this is my wake up. Also have a quick shower at night.

Never have a bath anymore, used to love them bug don't feel the need now.

It's hard isn't it to think what disabled people can and can't do.
BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 19/03/2022 12:07

One positive thing that the Covid lockdowns have done for me is to stop me washing my hair daily. I wash it twice a month now because it's grey and I need to use a purple shampoo to keep it silver.

Still like a shower in the morning though, it makes me more comfortable in my skin.

AndStand · 19/03/2022 12:14

All this "I can't function unless I've had a shower in the morning"!!
Of course you can! It's just something that you "prefer" to do.
In reality if push came to shove you'd all physically manage if there wasn't a shower handy.

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 19/03/2022 12:24

Cat amongst the pigeons: you’d feel a lot less minging if you used proper soap and a flannel. How on Earth do you clean yourself without? Shower gel + no flannel? No wonder you don’t feel particularly fresh.

Addendum- I live in Scotland - sweating is not really something we’re familiar with

Icecreamsprinkles · 19/03/2022 12:29

I am also in the 2 coffees and shower every day camp. I do quite a bit of exercise (possibly too much but it’s the only thing that helps my menopausal symptons) and most days my muscles feel like they have seized up over night so I am literally like the tin man walking around until I have had my shower!

Yeah I'm a bit excessive and do soap on a scrubby cloth for armpits/under boobs/feet and back and then Shower gel on a shower puff thing Blush So a double cleanse for my body I guess!! My skin has never been better since I started this and I feel really clean
cherrypiepie · 19/03/2022 20:15

Never thought this would be so contentious! I appreciate the contributions.

It's very annoying like I say. Agree some roots in habits. It does feel like a real chore. If I'm at home I don't bother so much but need a shower at some point each day so if I'm not going out it can be later on - especially if doing dirty jobs.

My skin is parched like the Sahara. My hair is so fine and dry also and I use Kristin Ess at the moment and looking at kerestase densifique. It not very dense either so any grease is obvious. 36 hours is the max! I cannot wash it any less! It is not possible without looking unkept. I have tried. Tying it back just means it look crap and dirty but tied back.

I also feel crumpled and crap all day! And, weirdly, that everyone knows that I have not had a shower that morning.

If I lived in the 50s I'd probably go for a shampoo and set a week and spray it i between and it would feel really gross. But I don't.

No, it wouldn’t bother me. We don’t have a shower anyway.

I have a question about showering that I've always been too afraid to ask on other threads. To people who say a shower only takes 5 minutes how on earth do you do it?! I don't think I've ever managed one in less than 10 minutes, longer if I'm washing my hair as it takes so long to soak through.

If it's 5 mins then I'm not washing my hair Grin But I can shower in that time

They aren't washing properly.
Billandben444 · 20/03/2022 11:38

Now I'm old(er) I very rarely sweat and my hair and scalp never get greasy. It's easy to go without showering every day but, when I do, I use bar soap and a rough sponge. Hair gets done about every 5 days.

Boorfi · 20/03/2022 11:42

If you can reduce the amount you wash your hair it will become less greasy.

Always stated.

Never true.

Hair that goes greasy quickly is linked to a hormonal cause, such as an overactive thyroid. Shampooing it less does nothing to affect the body’s internal imbalance!

They're also not actually dirty. That's MN for you. Spend an awful lot of time washing and cleaning people and things that are still clean because they were cleaned earlier in the day/yesterday.

It's just another way to shout about how much money you have, because showers cost a lot to run, without actually overtly saying how much money you have.

See also daily consumption of blueberries, which are probably the most expensive fruit you can buy, and the importance placed on living near to the 'right' schools.

RosiePosieDozy · 20/03/2022 12:01

I have to shower before going out anywhere or 'doing something' like gardening or the gym. Honestly not having a shower would ruin my day. Maybe I wouldn't smell to others but I wouldn't be able to enjoy anything.

I don't wash my hair every day though.

RoastedFerret · 20/03/2022 12:14

I'm not a shower everyday person. I'm not sweaty, I wake up cold every morning(and a few times in the night) not sweaty, I have to be doing some serious exercise to sweat. I haven't washed my hair in 2 days and this morning when I looked in the mirror I thought oh, my hair's looking extra fluffy today, it's not at all greasy. I had like 2 years in my teens when I was sweaty but that's about it. We have an electric shower so I have always been mindful about the cost of showering so don't do it when it's not needed.

But mine used to get greasy after 2 days. Now I can go a week?
