Cannot function without a shower!

Am I the only one?

Becomes a bit annoying some days I'd just like to get up and go but always have to shower and wash and dry hair as it's so fine a greasy. If I don't get a shower I feel self conscious all day and spend ages trying to sort hair I may s well have had a shower! Very occasionally I will pop to the shop for milk. The. It's blow dry make up and outfits.

Only exceptions are going to gym and on a sunbathing holiday.

How can I get an evening shower and still feel ok the next day? I'm 42 by the way!

It's just another way to shout about how much money you have, because showers cost a lot to run, without actually overtly saying how much money you have.

That's a bit of a reach! So now a shower is a status symbol?

If it's 5 mins then I'm not washing my hair
But I can shower in that time

By the time the shower is hot enough and I've used various different things on different parts of my body it's definitely over 5 minutes!

pawpaws2022 · 20/03/2022 21:23

@PinkSparklyPussyCat it depends for me
If I'm doing my "usual" shower it's about 7-10 mins. But if someone said you have 5 mins and then the water cuts out, I can do! Soap armpits and feet, shower puff with gel everywhere else, rinse and done

Feel like I’ve fallen into an alternative universe - grew up in a northern working class town in the 80s and 90s, and didn’t know anyone over 12 who didn’t jump in the shower for a few mins every morning??

And yes my preferred shower is a lot longer than 5 mins just because I like showers — but if I have to, sure I can jump in, wash body and hair and out again in 5. What’s everyone else doing in the shower to take so much time!?

My hair’s always been greasy too, and no it definitely doesn’t ever train it to get less greasy if I leave it longer. The only time I have ever been able to go for 2/3 days without washing it was when I was pregnant, and pretty much the instant DD popped out my hair went oily again. Sucks to be me….

If I’m washing my hair it takes ages to get it soaked through and 2 shampoos and conditioner takes a lot longer than 5 minutes!

Ive heard it all now!!!

Fair enough! I only ever do one quick shampoo and my hair is fine, oily and straight so it doesn’t take long and I don’t always use conditioner either if I’m in a hurry.

I have a set routine which never wavers and which goes:

  • take glasses off
  • shampoo hair
  • use rest of shampoo lather to clean glasses quickly
  • wash face
  • bar soap for pits, shave pits quickly
  • soap under the boobs
  • rinse shampoo, face, pits, under boob
  • (if conditioner, put on)
  • soap bits, bum, rinse, soap and rinse feet
  • (rinse out conditioner if any)
  • then jump out! I can manage all of those steps pretty quickly, eg before the school run!

If I’m not in a hurry or need to shave my legs it’ll take longer. But I don’t shave my legs most of the year.

I read once that shampoo manufacturers put two shampoos on the instructions but you don’t need two. But fair enough if you have lots of hair or curly hair you’d need more time for shampooing and conditioning.

I love a shower though and can happily stay in there for ages if I get the chance — especially in a hotel or whatever.

I always shower in the evening because I don’t want to climb into bed unclean. I don’t have time to shower and wash my hair in the morning. I just do my skincare and makeup. I don’t really sweat much so I feel fine.

CherryPieface · 20/03/2022 23:25

Yes, I am not awake unless I have a shower!

@JemimaTiggywinkle

Spray dry shampoo in your hair the night before. Don’t brush it out, leave it to soak up the grease overnight and you’ll wake up with nice fresh hair.

If you can reduce the amount you wash your hair it will become less greasy. My hair is quite fine but I’ve got my hair washing down to twice a week (and don’t use dry shampoo often). I find using conditioner makes it get greasy much quicker so I just use it once every few washes.

If you can reduce the amount you wash your hair it will become less greasy.

Absolutely not true.

There always one who says this. Always one.

Legions of us have tried this and it doesn't work.
All I end up with is exceptionally greasy hair - that smells too.
