Last year there was a lovely long running thread about doing one thing a day that you've been putting off, or just to enjoy the cumulative effect of one extra daily 'thing'.
I'd like to start again, if anyone would like to join me.

Today, I have pulled out a drawer of a little used bureau cabinet, got rid of what is junk, and wiped the drawer out and organised what's left a bit more neatly.

Nice!

I got inspired by the sunshine so am spending my lunchbreak sorting out my pots. The geraniums seem to have survived winter! (Then back to my dining room and IKEA bag. Why is there a (clean) cast iron skillet sitting on my dining room table? It escapes me. )

@SnowWhiteLobelia to your painting that sat by door for two weeks, I raise you a box that I brought out of the car so I could hoover out car - box ended up living in the lounge for a month. Finally I cleaned car and put box back!

Today I've just done a flylady hot-spot thing. Set timer for 5 mins and just put a few bits back where they belong. It's amazing how things spread and breed too, only have to take your eye off them for a moment!

My home is looking better since all this, with very little effort really (no kids about helps obviously, as mine have all left home)

Praying for the curtains🙏.

On list writing :
I find writing to-do lists doesn't help me much. I just procrastinate. What helps is writing in my diary last thing at night the things I will do first thing. So it's a brain dump and it's not aspirational (tbh it's things I would have remembered 20 years ago😉)
Last night's for example was hang out towels, contact GP. It's whatever I need to add on to the normal first-thing routine of shower, tea, dishwasher.
My other useful written list now the memory is shot and we have fluctuating numbers for meals is "what is there to eat / finish." This lives on a pad on my kitchen counter and I update every day or other day.
I have a list on a phone app of tasks in house and garden that I can look through and tick off. Some are on daily repeat like "run dishwasher" others every six months "pack away seasonal clothes." If I'm looking for a project there will be one languishing as overdue for 300 odd days. Some I've just deleted eventually! Got to be realistic.

I painted more of the skirting boards/door frames in my lunch break (wfh). I'm now going to load the dishwasher and have a tidy round. Whenever I'm decorating the house work goes a bit to pot and then I have loads to catch up on, so trying to keep a bit more on top of it.

I’ve posted yesterday’s tricky letter and been for a hospital appointment. Then went to John Lewis to pick up a click and collect order of upcoming birthday presents and nipped into Waitrose next door to buy groceries for unexpected PIL stay (FIL has a restricted diet due to health problems). Went to replace a lightbulb that I thought was dead but it seems to work again after a wiggle so that was a very easy win!

I have hoovered the extractor fan in the bathroom. I need to get a chair to stand on to wipe it down to finish the job.
Also washed the bath mat! Smile

Sounds like people have achieved their aims.

I managed to do about 3/4 of mine but then did a couple of unexpected extras.

Tomorrow I just want to vacuum before doing a later shift. Looking forward to lighter evenings in terms of productivity.

I posted the forms that needed to go today (I filled them in a few days ago, no idea why I procrastinate over writing the address on an envelope, whacking a stamp on and dropping it in a post box I pass daily Hmm)

I also decluttered one of the two drawers under my bed. It’s now totally empty and ready to receive the vacuum bag of pre-pregnancy clothes that’s currently in the garage.

As a bonus I filed away some paperwork that was hanging about on the coffee table. Quite happy with my little achievements today Smile

Can I join?

I have had a pile of stuff that needed sorting (mostly binning but checking first) for months. Inspired by this thread I’ve done it.

Can I join? Today I cleaned my car. My worst chore and I've been putting it off for ages. Also bought this magical comb thing from amazon and I'm absolutely disgusted at what it's got up from my carpets but it was strangely theraputic.

In two weeks time we have sone annual leave to move my daughter from one bedroom to another.

It means dismantling a huge Ikea wardrobe and I will take this opportunity to have another violent sort out of clothes.

I will also have to sort out toys.

Dreading it.

Today I paid the (overdue Blush) tv licence. Also helped DH with listing our garden furniture for a bargain price which we need to sell before moving. Went to the office to clock up a hybrid working day, after another midnight session last night. Then managed to double pick up after work. Buzzing as my DD is potty training herself and loving it.

Just made a lentil cottage pie to eat today and tomorrow.

Scraping the barrel a bit to add making dinner and nursery collections but I was pleased about them Grin

Today I have finished making MiL's Easter egg and covered a small box which it fits perfectly with green and yellow paper.

(did other stuff too, good day, but this was the Project one)

This evening we emptied three kitchen cupboards and decluttered them! They’ve been scrubbed and are airing out, tomorrow I need to work out the best way of actually arranging the food we are keeping in them - it was totally haphazard before.

Morning all!

I amazed myself my coming down to a lovely tidy kitchen and lounge today as my little habits are starting to build up Smile
Hoovered in a spare 5 mins yesterday and plumped cushions and folded a throw before bed so feeling pretty smug Blush

I am just about to change bedding and put a wash on, and looking at colour of the sky, I might even be able to dry it outside!

Lunchtime I am tempted to sweep patio, but I also want to clear out and air a couple of kitchen cupboards. Excellent project @SingToTheSky!

Actually I'm starting to build a list, but I still plan to build on current good habits and then add things in, so slow but steady going.
I have been a loose follower of flylady for many years.

My car needs attention
All my kitchen cupboards need a freshen up
Paintwork needs touching up throughout
We have a pile of shoes and an overloaded coat rack which I must do something about

And so much more!

But, I definitely because easier when I don't let myself get overwhelmed with it all.

I have bad habit of burying myself in work and/or reading when there's a lot to do at home. So I'm loving the accountability among us here Flowers

This morning I have scrubbed the mugs, I think the dishwasher needs salt in it. No idea where it goes so I need google!

It's a lovely day here too so I'm planning on chopping back the overgrown shrubs in the front garden.

I enjoyed the tidy and kitchen and lounge feeling this morning too Solo.

My thing today is sorting all the loose photos I rescued from the under bed drawers yesterday into albums. I’ve made a start and I’m enjoying looking through them all, but have had to stop to feed the baby.

This thread has helped me be much more productive! Lovely to have somewhere to record our little achievements.

Have been working on our moving checklist this morning.

Also cleaned the kitchen last night including pile of washing up and dishwasher and was lovely to come down this morning. Have done loads of little jobs in the kitchen this morning to keep it looking decent.

Cleaned the downstairs loo and have done a mail redirect this morning. Also finished a work call on my day off. Juggling entertaining toddler so going slow.

Right, I now have baskets for the following categories:

Nuts/dried fruit/seeds
Gluten free baking stuff (DH is coeliac)
Hot drink stuff
Pasta
Gravy/stock

Everything else seems a bit… random though? Not sure how else to organise anything

Report
SingToTheSky · 18/03/2022 11:07

Oh and one for random sachets/one use packet type things.

We will be building up supplies again - eg currently have no lentils or anything like that. So will find baskets for those as they come along I guess

Hello! Oh i had thought I had posted earlier, but maybe not.

I am back at work on Monday so I have filled the car with petrol (ouch) and have meal planned work lunches.

Last night I quickly vacuumed one room downstairs before coming up for the bedtime bathtime routine. It took mere minutes and it occurred to me I could just have a rotating vacuum regime each night.... we will see how long that lasts though! (Usually I do the entire house one day a week and it takes forever and I want to break things as we have a stupid elderly dyson).

Dogs been for a much needed Viz Whiz.
Two loads of laundry done.
Need to declutter and make Mothers day crafts with the kids for their grandma's. Nicer weather is always a good motivator.

Today's extra task for me is to (hopefully) remove felt tip pen marks off the coffee table.

I've just brought in a load of things from my car. So now I am going to put them away. Its why I've been putting it off!
Just a few bits. It's not hard, so the procrastination is a huge overreaction Blush
I will bring in a bit more later.
And then, I will take it to the car wash. It's covered in Saharan sand from Wednesday, and there are still car wash queues.

Was anyone else affected? Don't know how far up country it blew.

I've just cleaned the doors and cupboard doors in my kitchen with a scrubby sponge and a very pungent cherry scented liquid soap that has been lurking (was a gift, smells like bubble gum but is horrible on skin)
Kitchen now smells delicious and I had fun doing it! (I wish I'd known about flylady when children were small and we were in perpetual chaos, as it would be her sort of thing 😅)
