Another daily project

Last year there was a lovely long running thread about doing one thing a day that you've been putting off, or just to enjoy the cumulative effect of one extra daily 'thing'.
I'd like to start again, if anyone would like to join me.

Today, I have pulled out a drawer of a little used bureau cabinet, got rid of what is junk, and wiped the drawer out and organised what's left a bit more neatly.

I’d love to come fud but I’m quite enjoying the heat. May change my mind tonight when it doesn’t cool down though!

I managed to get an extra job done this morning. Tidied the random crap that had accumulated outside the front door and swept the area. It was the cool side of the house so was quite pleasant. Need to buy a new front door mat at some stage.

SummerLobelia · 18/07/2022 12:24

I confess I am loving the heat- but we are wfh all week and the DCs are off school. It's also 'only' 31 degrees where we are so it may well become much tricky.

Mind you there are not too many projects getting done today but I did get DS1 to the dentist for a filling this morning.

However- if there are any trips up north in the offing I think I could be in!

RunningKatie · 18/07/2022 12:54

Phew! It's warm here, the dc are in school. I managed to get a hat that met with dc2's exacting requirements, he's 9 @Aria999 - but has a clear vision of what he wants. He has very high expectations of himself and those around him, it can be exhausting heading him off.

I've been looking up the prices of family days out, can't seem to get vouchers since covid, so it's going to be an expensive summer.

Wardrobe is going to be tackled today, everything holey, not fitting is going to be sorted out this morning and a declutter of my bedroom shelving which has become a dumping ground.

And in an ongoing self care project, ddog and I are going to complete our final cto5k run in the program later today, took far more weeks then it's suppose to 😂

Morning @Reetty! I did similar with my underwear drawer recently. Non holey clothes feel so much better!
Way to go on the running! It doesn't matter that it's taken a while to complete. I have taken up 'exercise' this week to accompany my usual activity. Brisk 'sweaty' walking and some hard work swimming. Feels good so far!
Any flat surface in my house tends to attractive clutter so I try to avoid having them. Today's mission is to attack the odd piles that have gathered.

Wasn't as hot here as forecast yesterday. Work was a lot of driving so that made it easier. Grateful for my first ever air conditioned car! Made it to 31c at about 5pm. Horses were fine and didn't need hosing. Mother cancelled her appointment so DH and I went to the beach for a couple of hours instead. Wore myself out and fell asleep in front of the telly when we got home.

Pleased hat was to small boy's satisfaction Katie

@fudfootedfannybangle you can expect us about lunchtime! No need for 12 tog though, I kick covers off whatever the weather!

We've been doing curtains/windows closed in the day in our bedroom, then everything wide open overnight. Pity any chancers attempting to burgle us: they'll be faced with two snoring, naked, sweaty beached whales. Marvellous! Not a pretty sight 😂

Hava great day everyone! Ive got to get off MN and do something useful. Think I shall also do a bedding wash

OP posts:
RunningKatie · 19/07/2022 08:58

Bedding wash on @Solosunrise!
I'm just off to sit in the Sainsbury's freezers for a bit.

Peridot1 · 19/07/2022 09:07

Morning all.

We did the windows and curtains closed all day here too @Solosunrise. Then when I went to bed I tried the trick of opening the window and pointing the fan at it to bring in cooler air. And got invaded by loads of flying ants for my trouble!

Did my bedding yesterday. Washed dried and put back on by mid afternoon.

Also sorted through some swim wear. And washed a couple of fleeces that can go in my charity bags.

Some admin tasks planned for today.

Reetty · 19/07/2022 15:53

Was really good to finish the c25k, didn't even reach 17c here, just thought I should say incase people think I was dragging ddog out for a run in crazy weather!
Agreed about non hole clothes, I had some ridiculously old stuff.

Today's small project is kitchen counters, want to clear them, part of a grand plan for doing rest of the kitchen this week, including oiling the wood counter tops, which needs them to be clear first!

Aria999 · 19/07/2022 16:16

Today's project is Pack for 4 Week Trip to UK and Europe.

Hope the runways have unmelted by the time we land ☹️

Solosunrise · 20/07/2022 06:26

@Reetty I figured you were somewhere cooler. Are you going to continue running? My ankles dislike running, sadly. Good at at stairs though!
Best of luck with the kitchen!

It hit 39c here yesterday, according to my car. There have been a few fires locally but all my nearest and dearest have coped remarkably well with the heat. Relieved to be back to normal today. We went to the beach again last night, and the wind whipped up and it started raining mid swim. Felt lovely!

I'm planning a reset at home after work today. Hoovering, floors mopped etc. Things have strewn a bit. Looks like a house with children, minus toys. Managed bed, laundry and bathroom yesterday. Might wash shower curtain.

Have a lovely day everyone Flowers

How exciting! Long haul?

@Solosunrise yes we live in America these days (east coast now so it's a bit shorter).

We made it, and it's not too hot! Yay!

On the down side we got caught up in an m25 closure so are running about 3 hours late and DH is grumpy because our Airbnb isn't very central (there wasn't anything else by the time we booked)

ChinBristles · 20/07/2022 18:19

Great thread. Today I'm unboxing and getting to grips with a new headset for my work phone.

Peridot1 · 20/07/2022 21:57

Enjoy your trip @Aria999!

I had a pottering about day today. Some sorting and tidying in my bedroom. Filled a few more bags of clothes. Found two I’d started in my wardrobe. Rescued a dress and a vest top from one of them. [Hmm] Dress needs a small repair on a seam but is in my current size and I love the colour. Moved all seven bags down to the hall ready to go tomorrow.

enjoying the cooler temperatures today too.

Morning @ChinBristles that's my kind of daily project! Though for some reason it usually takes about three days. I don't seem to be able to get a thing out of it's box to reading the instructions to setting it up to using it in one sitting (or day!) I need Stages 😅

OP posts:
Solosunrise · 21/07/2022 06:01

@Aria999 hope you made it to airbnb ok, and grumpy is less so now! Have a great time!

@Peridot1 I think we've probably all done that! I believe the trick is to get the bags filled and gone asap (i carted a bag aound in my car for about six weeks - forgot it was there!) Sounds like a productive day :)

Boiling the kettle job today: brushed the cat. (And washed hands)
Just dusted around telly and got rid of old bits of paper stacked there

I had a lovely swim in the sea the day you southerners were all melting. 😁 it was not warm. the downside is that my house is now covered in fine sand which is somewhat reminiscent of an explosion in a glitter factory.

yesterday I ordered new curtain pole brackets as I think my curtains have been swung upon by apes (my children) - so rather than attacking the bent ones with a hammer, I’ve bought new.

I will also be booking flights although this is going to be a torture because the times are all fucking wrong necessitating extra nights in a hotel or a 7 hour layover at Heathrow type thing. So I’ll end up dithering for at least an hour over which airline to take my chances with. I’m thinking a direct flight from Scotland will probably be easier than transferring at Heathrow if the airports are still in chaos (October holidays). 🤷‍♀️

Thelnebriati · 21/07/2022 11:43

Today I am defrosting the freezer and will be sorting out the bins, I'm almost too scared to open them.

Solosunrise · 21/07/2022 15:03

The beach was packed on our Very Hot Day, @fudfootedfannybangle They all had the same idea of turning up around 6pm. And who can blame them? It felt quite like being on holiday!
Best of luck booking flights!
We're going away in the UK in September. Many of my colleagues have young children so it felt like the decent thing to leave them with the school hols for annual leave. I get to save up for it too with all the lovely overtime.

@TheInebriati we are in an area where there were bin strikes, so ours got a bit grim. We were able to get to the dump but many bins overflowed and got ravaged by foxes. They were dragging landfill waste all around gardens apparently 🤢

OP posts:
fudfootedfannybangle · 22/07/2022 07:39

Ha ! Smug buns here inebriati - another win for the north of Scotland! 😂

@Solosunrise I was actually the only person at the beach even though it frequently appears on those lists of “best beaches” - billionaire lifestyle ‘see! 😂

I got my flights booked and paid a load of bills.

today I’m going to rearrange the furniture in my eldest’s room as it’s all wrong (imo) and he’s getting a tropical fish tank so I’m taking over.

(I expect our cat will also delight in a fish tank… but he won’t be told)

fudfootedfannybangle · 22/07/2022 07:39

Smug bins ffs! Smug bins!

Peridot1 · 22/07/2022 08:36

Jealous of those of you near beaches. We are nowhere near.

I took your advice @Solosunrise and all of my bags of clothes went yesterday. One of today’s jobs will be to try to fix the seam in the dress I rescued and if I can’t do it easily that dress will be the start of the next bag.

Other than that today DH is muttering about clearing the fridge out. He’s also doing some stuff in the garden but it’s due to rain here this afternoon. I’d do a bit in the garden this morning and the fridge this afternoon but what do I know? He will probably try to do the opposite.

This morning I am off for a pedicure and then this afternoon I am ironing. May put an easy film on tv and attempt to empty the ironing basket while watching.

RunningKatie · 22/07/2022 11:43

Last day of school today for the dc. So 6 weeks of being #blessed with their company, ddog is going to get a lot less sleep.
I'm working but also plotting days out, I have a massive bag of school uniform to donate, it hasn't even made it out to the car yet for me to drive it around for weeks!

Solosunrise · 23/07/2022 07:44

Morning all! I have the weekend off Grin and I'm drinking tea and cuddling ancient cat.
We never did get any rain yesterday.
I've got a pile of books unread so have plans for a lot of reading!
I have to sort out my son's old bedroom as he's staying for 3 weeks in August. So today I'm going to do a bit towards that.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
