Last year there was a lovely long running thread about doing one thing a day that you've been putting off, or just to enjoy the cumulative effect of one extra daily 'thing'.
I'd like to start again, if anyone would like to join me.

Today, I have pulled out a drawer of a little used bureau cabinet, got rid of what is junk, and wiped the drawer out and organised what's left a bit more neatly.

Shower drains. 🤮 one of the reasons I’m really boaky about long hair. Ugh. You get a medal 🏅.

I’ve been powering through my list of 36 jobs to do (kids are away) and I’ve been able to give the house a deep clean and throw lots of stuff out. Wheelie bin is full so I need to rein it back until the next collection.

I’ve got another half “laundry bag” to go to the charity shop, they were delighted with last week’s effort but have sent out a notice saying temporarily no more books - so I’ll have to cool the jets on that one.

@Solosunrise weather? I’m in the north of Scotland. 😂 so actually I do embrace the middle-ages DGAF dress-code as standard. My current faves (because they fit without cutting off circulation) are hogwarts-esque leggings - and I ducking hate HP!

I’ve been washing a fridge tray/drawer at a time in the dishwasher too.

today I’ve got painters coming to touch up the doors/windows outside.

I even found my passport in the WRONG place and under an inch of dust bunnies under my bed natch. It SHOULD have been in the metal safe…

Solosunrise · 13/07/2022 14:26

I could not be much further from you and still be in the UK @fudfootedfannybangle! It's 29c here and I'm sweltering but so far retained my equanimity. Just...

@Solosunrise might you be my way? I could not be much further from Scotland and 29 here also. :)

South East 😀

SummerLobelia · 14/07/2022 15:22

Slightly South West here! Grin

I've been home today. Busted boiler (I mistyped that as bastard boiler first which is completely appropriate) and Dcs home and I had some medical stuff which all turned out okay in the end.

I am about to go out and weed my windowboxes! One of my favourite jobs because it does not take alot of time and is so visually effective. :)

Solosunrise · 14/07/2022 16:34

Not a million miles then @SunnyLobelia😊
Pleased the medical stuff turned out ok.
Enjoy that window box!

I've had a bit of a change around in my kitchen today

OP posts:
Solosunrise · 15/07/2022 12:08

Today i have moved my fridge freezer and cleaned underneath and behind. Quite astonishing what grot can accumulate!

OP posts:
fudfootedfannybangle · 15/07/2022 13:03

You’re brave! I’ve not moved mine since the day it was delivered. I had to wiggle it about to get the polystyrene off which was underneath and ended up nearly getting trapped underneath - only the kitchen counter saved me. The paramedics would’ve dined out on that for years - “fatty dies after being trapped underneath giant empty fridge”.

RunningKatie · 15/07/2022 13:07

Our fridge is built in so I can't move it. Not sure what excuse I have for the rest of the house though.
Today i'm planning on setting up my holidays home office. I usually work in the kitchen (very snack friendly location) but with the summer holidays looming I'll move so my zoom calls aren't video-bombed by dc asking for endless drinks, snacks or more tech time.

Solosunrise · 15/07/2022 13:44

That is quite a mental image @fudfootedfannybangle 🤣

I've had a slightly funky smell in the kitchen for a little while and it was an attempt to get to the bottom of it. What I discovered was a water catcher underneath the base of the freezer at the back. Full of rancid water 🤢 It seemed to be stuck in so I consulted google and was led to a video detailing how to take it out. Lovely plumber on the video said nobody ever knows it's there, because they're not told, and it often leads to funky smells when it gets hot like now. So the plan is to clean it monthly ( it gathers water from the defrosting process)
I am feeling oh so smug today 😇

@RunningKatie I can imagine zoom calls and children don't mix well.
My cat has a timed feeder....wouldn't it be cool to get such a thing for the children 🤣
Dh has put on weight since wfh due to proximity to the fridge combined with lack of stairs (4 flights at the office) Luckily our loo is upstairs so he has to move from time to time though he has the bladder of a race horse and can hold it for hours!

Nice work @Solosunrise !

I am also feeling successful. I got some advice from the filter manufacturer, binned off the incompetent plumber, and drained and pressurized the tank myself.

Then it started leaking like crazy out the top. Cue another call to the manufacturer. Apparently whoever installed it failed to put plumbers tape on the screw thread.

Same incompetent plumber had failed to spot this when I called him about an unidentified under-sink leak last year. It seemed to go away, I assume he just tightened everything and because the tank wasn't fully pressurized it did the trick temporarily.

All working fine now. Yay me. Except for my choice of plumber but we all make mistakes right?

Peridot1 · 15/07/2022 22:47

Well done @Aria999. Really annoying actual plumbers didn’t know what the hell they were doing but well done you.

Glad medical stuff was ok @SummerLobelia.

well done to all carrying on in this heat.

I sorted my parents funky drippy fridge a few years ago. Electrician dad had no clue. Also changed extraction fan filters for him two years ago. Again no clue they needed changing. I think they had been in over ten years. I’m sure he wasn’t the only one. You would think there would be some instructions with these things.

I’ve been walking the dog around 7.15am this week due to the heat and can’t believe the difference in my energy levels and motivation. Might try to keep it up.

I have don’t lots of washing. Including winter cardigans and hoodies and fleeces that hang in the utility room.

Been doing some gardening too. Bought plants for pots on patio and DH planted them. I weeded the new raised beds on the extended patio and we bought lots of plants for them. DH planted some today and we will do the rest tomorrow. Also been doing a lot of watering!

And I managed to do a bit of a sort of active/gym wear etc last night. For a total slob I seem to have a lot! And I’ve gone from a size 20/22 to an 18 recently so a clear out was necessary.

And I have no idea why some of this post is in italics!

Solosunrise · 16/07/2022 06:08

Now that is all very impressive @Aria999. Well done! I am ashamed to admit that for most of my life I've just always left things to someone else. My dad and ex husband were both very handy and thrived on fixing things. So I left them to it and didn't bother to learn.
Now I'm settling into adulthood in my 50s my busy brain is settling enough to give some things a go. I'm not even kidding - it's taken all my life thus far to realise it's logic and not some dark art. It was inspired to ring the manufacturer. It would never have occurred to me, until current lovely DH did it one time.
Anyway all that to say well done, and to @Peridot1 too!
I'm enjoying lovely peace in my garden before work this morning. Just listening to the birds. My favourite time of day!
Have a lovely Saturday everyone 😘

I've colllected the school uniform order, small matter of getting them to try it on. Also did the uniform ironing whilst it's cool, school has said no uniform Mon & Tues but I expect they'll still need 3 days worth.
And I have bought a hat for youngest dc who appears very laidback but also has exacting specifications. Hopefully it meets with his approval and it's worn.

Aria999 · 16/07/2022 12:04

How old is youngest dc @RunningKatie ?

It is difficult to get clothes that meet with DS6 approval. DD2 is fine with anything that has dinosaurs on.

Peridot1 · 17/07/2022 11:42

Morning all. Pretty hot where we are. South east. Not achieving too much.

DH finished planting all the new plants this morning.

I sorted through the last of my clothes that I cleared out of my wardrobe a couple of weeks ago and dumped in a spare bedroom. Now have five bags to go to charity tomorrow. DS may have some friends coming to stay next weekend so I needed to clear out the spare bedroom so that’s that job ticked.

Tried to brush the dog as thought it might be cooling for her. She wasn’t particularly co-operative. Daft animal.

Not planning much else today.

hope everyone has a nice Sunday.

fudfootedfannybangle · 17/07/2022 11:50

Not hot at all here although might reach the heady heights of 16 later. 😂 I’ve sorted out more charity shop stuff and delved into a pile of clothes I was waiting for my youngest to fit into - FOUR fucking pairs of barely fit one jeans so that’ll save me a fortune.

I’ve also cleaned out the “useless” kitchen cupboard, made smug soup, hung out smug washing. I’m going to do some gardening and am contemplating finishing laying the floor in the hall which has been annoying me for 6 weeks as I step over the piles of laminate.

Solosunrise · 17/07/2022 17:24

Hey all! I have 16c envy. It's 28c here. Has been ok all day. I feel I'm acclimatising a bit. Tomorrow and Tuesday will be grim but some of it will be spent in air conditioned places, which I'm grateful for. Doing ponies in the afternoon. Poor buggers will be feeling it. There will probably be some hosing down.
We may have to up sticks and head to the frozen wastes of the North. Fancy visitors @Fud?
We've kept on top of stuff here but that's about it. Salads all the way at the min. Washing is done and ran hoover round ahead of just going to do as little as poss.
Just need to keep an eye on my my mum as she's frail. Meant to be taking her to a non urgent appointment to pick up her new glasses tomorrow afternoon but we'll postpone if the heat is really ferocious.

I can hear my beloved clattering about in the kitchen so I may step up and do the bathroom.
Thinking of heading to the beach for a dip this evening.
Best wishes to all especially those with little chiluns in the heat x

OP posts:
Aria999 · 17/07/2022 22:08

I miss living near the beach though actually when we did I hardly ever went as it's such a ridiculous faff with little kids. (The beach toys, nappy changing gear, water and snacks, changes of clothes, stroller that won't go on the sand...)

Solosunrise · 18/07/2022 06:03

@Aria999 I have lived within ten miles of the coast my entire life and it's only in the last two years that I've embraced it. I couldn't cope with it at all when the children were little for all the reasons you described.
I was feeling a stab of guilt about it so I'm glad it's not only me!
I love it now! Bracing walks in the winter, then deckchairs and dips on summer evenings. We only go to cool down, so not during the day when it's really hot. I love to swim and DH does the crossword and keeps an eye on me, which is really sweet. The tides fascinate me and I've been doing a bit of reading about how they happen.

Bit of a tangent there......

As for today's little project, have just cleared off the lounge windowsill which has inexplicably become a dumping ground for homeless objects.

OP posts:
Reetty · 18/07/2022 06:14

Wardrobe is going to be tackled today, everything holey, not fitting is going to be sorted out this morning and a declutter of my bedroom shelving which has become a dumping ground.

And in an ongoing self care project, ddog and I are going to complete our final cto5k run in the program later today, took far more weeks then it's suppose to 😂

Peridot1 · 18/07/2022 08:45

Woke up really early this morning so got up to make the most of the cool morning. Bed stripped and bedding in machine by 6.30. Out walking the dog by 6.40.

Today I will be mostly figuring out which room is coolest and doing something in there.

fudfootedfannybangle · 18/07/2022 10:05

I’ve been making up all the beds ready for migrants from the south! 😂

I woke up ridiculously early and procrastinated. But did strip the bed and that’ll go on the line as soon as the stupidly slow eco wash is done.

today I want to get my tv up on my bedroom wall as it’s been collecting dust on the floor for a year. The power drill is charged and I have an unopened wall bracket holder thingummy so I should be good to go.

Solosunrise · 18/07/2022 10:27

Ok I'll get on the blower and arrange a bus for us soft southerners fud!
Hands up who's coming 😎

I’ve put 12 tog duvets on, but if you feel chilly I’ve left some woollen throws on the dresser.
