Last year there was a lovely long running thread about doing one thing a day that you've been putting off, or just to enjoy the cumulative effect of one extra daily 'thing'.
I'd like to start again, if anyone would like to join me.

Today, I have pulled out a drawer of a little used bureau cabinet, got rid of what is junk, and wiped the drawer out and organised what's left a bit more neatly.

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius wonderful news! Congratulations to you all. 🎉

@Peridot1 i hope you’re well on the mend now. It sounds like you’ve made great progress and I’m glad your sisters were with you for the day.

@petalpower yeh thanks for that. Adds yet another task to list

today's the day I take a giant zip-loc bag to the charidee shop and hopefully will return with less than I donate. 😳 also found another box of already sorted charity shop stuff at the top of the stairs which can go in next week’s bag.

created a big list of things I can tackle over the next few weeks with the kids away. May finally approach a semblance of normal.

SummerLobelia · 07/07/2022 18:36

Oh such wonderful news @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius Many many congratulations! Thanks

SummerLobelia · 07/07/2022 18:37

@Peridot1 you have so much going on and you are dealing it with such grace and resilience.

SummerLobelia · 07/07/2022 18:39

Hope everyone on the thread is very well. :) Thanks

SummerLobelia · 07/07/2022 18:43

All fine Chez Lobelia.

I got home a bit after 5 today from work and watered the pots and then spent 45 minutes sweeping our courtyard (which usually just has the bins in it) and weeded some old pots and watered them with the idea they will be filled with plants this weekend (note to self- buy plants).

I am exhausted now. But pleased with what I achieved. Quite alot for a nice change. I am starting to feel a bit better now I think new medication is kicking in.

RunningKatie · 07/07/2022 20:50

The tissue blew off the washing, phew!
Today has been less eventful, I've ordered school uniform for September. Completely guessed sizes, will see how it fits when it appears.

petalpower · 07/07/2022 21:52

Today I’ve registered for a new way to contact the gp surgery and sent a query about some new meds. Not much else achieved. I’ve been lacking in motivation today!

Solosunrise · 08/07/2022 08:03

Morning all! What great achievements achieved! This thread makes me happy! I must book cats in for routine vet appointments today. I only got the reminder three weeks ago...
Also got some stuff to take to the tip, but I'm fairly confident that dh will do that after work. Mainly old crap from the shed. I have my adult children coming in August, and hope to have the place set up for them as it's quite a long stay so they need a place to work. They're easy going and won't be any trouble, but I'm using them as a deadline/motivator, because otherwise my speed is set on dead slow.
Best get on it, before it gets hot.

Did I say I can't wait till August!! Grin

Oh, I think I may have finally kicked the junk food habit too! Been through the feeling rubbish stage and out the other side. So, maybe, just maybe, I can stop the slow creep up clothes sizes. Gone from 10-14 in last three years, and 14 is uncomfortably snug at moment 🙄

OP posts:
RunningKatie · 08/07/2022 13:52

How have you kicked the junk food @Solosunrise ? I've started listening to some podcasts on ultra processed food and it's made me realise how it's crept into our lives. I need to be more organised, but to be that I need to be more disciplined with my time. Rubbish excuses, hence my wardrobe is full of lovely clothes i cannot get on.

SummerLobelia · 08/07/2022 17:06

Hi all.

I also have a sneaking weight gain. Well- I started dieting 5 years back and put 3 stone on. I am somewhere between a 16 and 18 and i feel a bit grim about it all so also interested in hearing about @Solosunrise techniques!!

Today is my day 'off' from work and the first Friday i did not log in to my e-mails. Although I did facebook my colleague and asked 'what fresh disasters?'. (This is how we greet each other every day).

I set my alarm to spend 45 minutes sweeping the terrace. My elderly neighbour came out and we chatted instead over the fence about one of his roses that has gone rogue and has grown through the hedge to our side as well and has the most glorious smell. I felt very relaxed.

I also bought tickets to a charity afternoon tea that is being held next week.

So very little achieved but I am feeling good today and it was a happy day.

SummerLobelia · 08/07/2022 17:13

Oh! And I also contacted the vets about cat vaccinations. Thanks for the reminder @Solosunrise !! Our regular vets do not have a booking until late September and recommended I contact a newbie who has opened up and with whom they are about to merge. So I have left an e-mail message and fingers crossed. :)

Solosunrise · 08/07/2022 20:20

Love to hear about happy days!
I think it's the heat really - and ive been filling up on full fat greek yoghurt when i want an ice cream, and i have had eggs and salad every day for lunch. Then a normal dinner. I know i feel better when i dont eat sugary snacks but once i start i cant stop, then feel rubbish. I never count calories, but if i dont eat sweets or bread, after a couple of days of that horrible detox feeling, i feel way better. Then it sticks. But the second i fall off the wagon, well it's like an alcoholic having just the one. So this time i really want to continue.
Not smug though....i still haven't booked cats in!

Well I finally got the filters changed on the under sink filtration system we inherited when we bought the house and...

It still isn't working properly 😫

Just a trickle of water, nothing like what it was when we got here.

Today I'm trying to have a pre-holiday sort-out. We've gone through some books and I've listed some things for sale.

Solosunrise · 09/07/2022 16:03

Today I have visited my mum and assisted her with a couple of jobs.
I have swept my patio and my front path.
I am sitting on my arse in the shade, reading a new Stephen King. Dinner is leftovers so nowt to do!

OP posts:
Aria999 · 09/07/2022 19:25

@Solosunrise sounds perfect!

I called the manufacturer and discovered that the tank needs to be repressurized as well as the filters being changed. The plumber has agreed to come back and do it for no extra cost but I have no idea when.

I hate it when something falls on its face in the middle of getting ticked off the list.

Peridot1 · 10/07/2022 09:41

That sounds frustrating @Aria999. Hope the plumber comes quickly. You would think he would have known what to do.

I am back home enjoying the lovely weather. Flight back on Thursday was thankfully very uneventful given what has been happening. Did have quite a long time to kill at the airport so ended up treating myself to some new sunglasses!

Have been doing washing and generally pottering about. Helped DH move furniture around on the patio yesterday. Next job is to empty out some pots to get ready for new plants. And ask some neighbours over for garden advice. We went to see their garden just before I went away. It’s stunning. Absolutely stunning. Has been on tv. And he loves giving people advice on gardens. Ours is pretty much a blank canvas. I was going to keep it quite simple but having seen theirs I’m feeling quite enthused about it all. It’s quite big though so need to be careful it doesn’t become too much.

A lazy day planned today. Some washing for DS and I need to make up his bed. Stripped it yesterday as he’s away for the weekend. Then an afternoon n the garden with my book. And roast chicken and salads for dinner as it’s so hot.

RunningKatie · 10/07/2022 20:18

I have unblocked the shower drain, I hate the job, been putting it off for a week. It was vile, but that's it done for a few months.
Been to visit my mum today! Took her for a walk and lunch, and got a few bits to amuse the dc in the holidays. Also rehung the curtains she's shortened, taking bets on how long it takes dh to notice! 😀

Peridot1 · 11/07/2022 11:56

I hate that job too @RunningKatie. Does the top of yours lift out easily? Mine does and I lift it out and give it a good rinse under the shower every time I wash my hair. I’ve found that seems to stop it getting too bad.

it seems too hot to attempt much at the moment. DH cleared out pots for the patio and I’ve jotted down a list of them so we may brave a visit to the garden centre this afternoon to buy some plants.

Other than that I may just try on some clothes to decide if they go or stay. I’ll have a few bags to go to charity then. I also need to go to the post office to post a parcel to my niece and take some pictures to be framed. Hard to summon the energy in this heat though.

SummerLobelia · 12/07/2022 15:36

Hi again,

I cannot bear the drain thing either. Might try the daily rinse suggested by @Peridot1 .

I can hardly bear to write this, but the issue of the skip is still ongoing. But DH has at least decided what size of skip he thinks we need.

I think once we have it in situ I am going to break a bottle of champagne on it's bow Cruise ship style. (I'll deffo take a photo).

RunningKatie · 12/07/2022 15:50

Don't waste the champagne @SummerLobelia! Drink it first, then break the bottle.

Our shower drain is screwed in unfortunately, but if I did it more regularly then I'm sure it wouldn't be such a grim job.

Today I've sorted teacher cards, water pistols for a Y6 water fight and other very useful stuff. Also managed to get a pair of linen trousers, no mean feat as everywhere seems to be selling off their summer stuff tkmaxx even have halloween things in

Boxowine · 12/07/2022 20:19

Yesterday I finally painted the moldings in my center hall. Taped, washed, sanded, primed. Took about three hours but oh how nice and clean they look. I will put the final coat on tonight.

The paint can and tray have been sitting on a chair in the hall since January.

I am saving to have it all carpeted so that I won't have to look at the floors. Can't wait

Oh and I washed my front door for the first time ever. I can't believe how dirty it was.

Solosunrise · 13/07/2022 06:05

Morning! How are we finding the weather? I used to dread hot weather but for some reason I'm coping better this year. Not saying I'm not looking forward to Autumn though. I love, love love late Sept/October!
I've broken out the shorts and I've even worn them in public! I am channelling my inner menopausal dngaf-ness. It's liberating! (And cooler!)
Yesterday I cleaned fridge inside and out.
Clutter has been creeping a bit ( the stuff seems to breed Sad ) so I'm going to see about sorting some of that out today.

You've inspired me to wash my front door @Boxowine thank you!
