Last year there was a lovely long running thread about doing one thing a day that you've been putting off, or just to enjoy the cumulative effect of one extra daily 'thing'.
I'd like to start again, if anyone would like to join me.

Today, I have pulled out a drawer of a little used bureau cabinet, got rid of what is junk, and wiped the drawer out and organised what's left a bit more neatly.

I’ve just counted up the motifs I’ve made for my blanket, and I’m up to 62!

Ive also taken up the hem of a new dress. I honestly think that the makers of plus size clothing think that women get taller when they get fatter - I have had to alter or take up so many dresses and skirts over recent years. Looking at the picture of the most recent dress, it is a maxi dress, hitting between mid calf and ankle - but for it to hit there on me, I would need to grow at least 3.5 inches!

I also need to alter the neckline - it is elasticated, but not enough, so it is constantly threatening to descend to my waist - not a sight I’m willing to inflict on the world - but that will have to wait until I’ve got shirring elastic.

Happy Sunday, lovely people! Oh @RunningKatie I feel you - my DH is still WFH and much as I love him, I miss pottering about on my own.
@SummerLobelia I hope you're feeling better and the blood tests gave you answers.
@StickyFingeredWeeNed all go in your house!

I am in awe of your abilities!
You talk sense about short people getting wider but not taller, and I would like to nominate @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius for the post of adviser to all the clothing chains!
I've been contemplating just buying clothes and getting them altered recently, as my sewing skills are nil. I tried to learn but i dont have the patience 😕

I do make my own clothes - but the trouble is, they have a habit of becoming yet another unfinished project. 😳 stares at half-finished dress I was to wear on the first day of my new job. The one I started in April.

this weekend I’ve had the house to myself for the first time in 6 weeks and it’s been lovely. Alas I’ve been working, but the silence makes my heart sing!

StickyFingeredWeeNed · 26/06/2022 07:55

I need you ladies to talk sense in to me. I’ve been keeping “holy” clothes to use for stuffing for an aforementioned sewing project (Indian pouffe). I now probably have too many. Do I a) bin them because they’re done b) keep them and eventually (potentially 2028) make subsequent pouffes or c) bag them up and try and find a textile recycling bin in deepest, darkest Scotland?

RunningKatie · 26/06/2022 08:46

Morning all! What a sunny day it is already.
Dh has done a DIY job this weekend which is amazing, means we can easily get to the shoe cupboard and the hall may become tidy instead of shoe mountain as the door is always stuck!
I've been attempting to deep clean corners, the odd sock pile has grown so I suspect they are hiding under beds.
This week's going to be bonkers, so I'm bracing myself.

I'd get rid, on account of you have still growing people in your house, it seems.
Thus you'll have plenty of stock for pouffe/other subsequent projects version:28

From one who cannot cope with much clutter but finds it constantly accumulating!

@RunningKatie I also have a shoe mountain which stops the front door opening fully Blush

My current life project is to leave places a little better than I find them. So, putting the new loo roll on the holder as previous one is close to running out, at work or home
My boiling the kettle job today was to wipe kitchen windowsill.
Next up is spice drawer.

This week we have achieved not only washing and drying, but putting away! Both laundry and washing up.

Proud 🤩

At least you start them - I have (counts) 5 skirt lengths and 2 dress lengths, and only one skirt length is even started.

And that is just the dressmaking - I have the supplies for painting, decoupatch, making bags, lino printing, zen tangle drawing, embroidery and book making (as in making hand made books, not gambling). I have come to the conclusion that shopping for craft supplies and actually doing the crafts, are two entirely separate hobbies!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/06/2022 12:58

But I did achieve something yesterday - I sorted out my wardrobe (which was packed to the gunnels), sent a pile to the charity shop, and binned some - plus I found two skirts I don’t wear any more that I can use to make dresses for my granddaughter (when she arrives).

I still need to sort out the drawers under the wardrobe - there are 5 of them - 2 large and 3 small, and I only actually open one of them - the rest are full of stuff I almost never touch - and I need to sort out my shoes - again, plenty of pairs of shoes, sandals and boots, but I live, day in day out, in one pair of them - so the charity shop will benefit.

RunningKatie · 27/06/2022 09:49

I'm going to attempt a charity shop drop off today. Hoping the container has space this week!
I need to also do a meal plan and shopping list, dh has said he'll go tonight but i have to plan it all out or he'll come back with random stuff and no fruit or veg

I'm loving this idea? May I borrow/steal/swipe and deploy please?

Peridot1 · 27/06/2022 10:33

Hello all. I sort of fell of the thread a bit. Just had to reread my last post to figure out what I was supposed to have done!

I did take DS’s stuff to the charity drop off. I went through part of the pile from my wardrobe and have three bags to take to charity from that. Very pleased that I can actually fit into some of the clothes I had been keeping so have a few bits I can take on holiday in August.

Still have a lot of sorting to do in my bedroom and wardrobe.

Then I ran out of time as I came over to Dublin. Some of you will remember my dad died last year and I’m back and forth sorting stuff out with the house etc. Got here all organised to finally get photos done etc and get house on market and I got covid two days later. So everything now delayed a week.

I suppose at least it will give me more time to sort things here.

If my posts didn't come up a different to yours, I would sometimes think I had written yours! What with shoe mountains and DH's who can't be trusted to go to the supermarket without a list. He comes home with wonderful things but goes a bit overboard on the goodies, which is not great for our middle aged physiques 😆

Hello @Seiheiki! You are most welcome! A filling the kettle job was, I think, a Flylady tip.
I think credit for the other one goes to Caitlin Moran, from one of her articles on middle aged women 😆I love her, she's one of my favourite writers!

Welcome back @Peridot1! I think we're all on off this thread with our projects. A good thing i say, as otherwise none of us would get these things done! I hope the covid didn't hit you too hard Flowers

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius I am certain you are right about the two different hobbies 😅For me it's not crafting, but buying books and reading books!
I am not really a crafty person, but I do enjoy a bit of zentangling.

Today I have dusted off my telly unit and I plan to change bed sheets. And tonight it's an early night and a good read 📚

StickyFingeredWeeNed · 28/06/2022 17:29

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius you’re not wrong! Buying fabric and making stuff are 2 entirely different hobbies.

im also guilty of book towers… 😳

I’ve been chucking out some of the old clothes because you’re right, I will acquire more.

today so flustered am I by this unseasonal heat in Scotland 😉, I’ve put the oil heater away for a while.

smug soup and line-drying today.

RunningKatie · 28/06/2022 18:16

I love a good book tower!
Managed to do the charity shop drop off yesterday. The container was full to bursting.
Today I have managed to delegate the fixing of some curtains to my mum as her sewing machine is way better than mine.

SummerLobelia · 29/06/2022 06:15

Morning! Sorry for dropping off the thread. I have been unwell. Blood tests back and thankfully something easily fixed with a tweaking of medication and I am starting to feel alot better.

My problem is that I start jobs then something happens to prevent their finishing and I lose energy. So the carpenter has not confirmed when he is coming for a quote and is ignoring me for example. The upholsterer has shut up for the summer etc.

So I am going back to the basics of the thread and literally aiming for one small achievement a day. Today is also a charity shop bag drop off. I have a massive bag of books in the hall, and that is going today. I also have some gifts for my parents in the hall I need to wrap and send. So that will help with decluttering and will get me started again.

I hope everyone has a very good day! It's good to be back.

StickyFingeredWeeNed · 29/06/2022 08:47

@SummerLobelia hope you’re on the mend very soon.

you’re right. One small project instead of berating ourselves for all the stuff we didn’t do.

today: I will put the covers back on one of the couches that I took off and washed a month ago.

Peridot1 · 29/06/2022 09:52

Hello all.

Sorry you’ve been unwell @SummerLobelia but glad it’s fixable.

I have lots to do to get Dad’s house ready for selling so need to chip away at it.

Today I will finish bagging up all the old and tatty bedding from the airing cupboard. Wash some duvet covers. Strip the bed in the box room to wash for my sister coming to stay next week. Do some of my washing. Clear some of the random items from the boxroom cupboards to take to recycling centre. Bag up some books to take to charity shop. Message sisters to organise a cleaning crew for Monday as photographer is coming on Tuesday.

May as well make use of the extra time I have here and I’m feeling well enough now to do stuff.

I am guilty of book towers too and looking around here I get where it comes from! Not so much Dad although he did have quite a lot of books but Mam definitely instilled a love of reading in us all. I’m actually rereading some I’ve found while I’ve been sorting.

RunningKatie · 29/06/2022 19:52

@Solosunrise - I quite like the idea of having a life twin. I hope at the moment you too are drinking cold coffee and a large glass of wine! 🍷
Today i have done nothing off my lists, my goal is to stay awake to watch the final of Sewing Bee.
Hope everyone else has been productive, I worked a 13hr day which is enough for me!

FoolShapeHeart · 29/06/2022 22:28

Today I've done nothing in the house, but I've finally booked trains for our summer holiday.

SummerLobelia · 30/06/2022 05:41

Oooh where are you off to @FoolShapeHeart ? We have not booked anything yet because of uncertainties around some family stuff and might end up relying on last minute.dot.com!

I dumped a charity shop bag. And took the opportunity to have a glass of wine at the wine bar next door.

Today I am going to put an actual list together of what I want to do then juust start methodically working through it.
