Another daily project

Last year there was a lovely long running thread about doing one thing a day that you've been putting off, or just to enjoy the cumulative effect of one extra daily 'thing'.
I'd like to start again, if anyone would like to join me.

Today, I have pulled out a drawer of a little used bureau cabinet, got rid of what is junk, and wiped the drawer out and organised what's left a bit more neatly.

And now it’s posted the image on its side. Sigh.

Solosunrise · 29/05/2022 17:15

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius that's lovely! I'm very impressed 👏

That’s lovely @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius !
My godson and his mum were supposed to be coming today but there was a mix up with the days so I had an unexpectedly clear day all of a sudden. My achievements were to put a dress on eBay that I’d bought for my brothers wedding and have now changed my mind about and to find a section in the Dyson that was full of dust and causing it to put up a bossy message. Section now cleaned and Dyson happier.

RunningKatie · 30/05/2022 18:21

This week I'm aiming to tidy our bedroom, go through the bag of doom receipts and tackle the ironing pile.
So far I am preparation mode! 😁

SunnyLobelia · 31/05/2022 06:59

Morning. I love that :@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius I wish I could create something so lovely.

Still all negative here so we are good to go tomorrow I think. :)

Yesterday I threw out the fresh flowers that were less than fresh and that then motivated me to collect all our vases and give them a thorough wash. They are now stacked up and ready for more flowers for when we get back.

Hope everyone has a great day!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 31/05/2022 12:33

Thank you all.

I have some projects I really need to get on with - but zero energy to actually get on with them. I need to go through my wardrobe and sort out the stuff I never wear, declutter pretty much everywhere, and actually do some of the craft projects that I've bought the supplies for, and then never done.

I believe that shopping for craft supplies, and actually doing the crafts are two entirely separate hobbies - and I am living proof of that!

RunningKatie · 31/05/2022 20:36

Fingers crossed for your trip @SunnyLobelia - must be so nerve wracking.

I managed to do all the ironing but due to people insisting on wearing clothes there is always washing hanging about trying to dry.

I too have lots of craft supplies SDTG and haven't properly crafted in years. I've been given needle felting stuff and I really cannot get on board with that. For some reason my mum thought it'd be a lovely hobby for my accident prone dc2.

Solosunrise · 01/06/2022 06:18

Morning all!
Hope you get away Sunny and have a lovely time!
@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius babysteps is the way to go! No need to do everything at once Flowers
Smug cleaning of front of cooker, and a wipe of toaster while kettle was boiling here just now 😎
I spent 5 minutes weeding yesterday, and put a box of winter clothes in the loft (which has sat in bedroom for a month!)
Now I'm watching the birdies while I eat my breakfast. Love the light, bright mornings!

G’Day!

Got back from my Australian trip yesterday. Had a fab time even if the weather wasn’t great. In fact a few days in Sydney were positively depressing with torrential rain.

Home now and appear to have a list as long as both arms to do. I was using a cleaning company who were a bit hit and Miss but kept them on while I was away and they didn’t manage to send anyone the entire time. DH did his best but the house needs a full deep clean now.

DS did a clear out of his bedroom which is great but dumped it all in the spare room so now I have that to sort. Lots of clothes, books, pictures and random tat.

And of course I brought back quite a lot! Including some pictures which were a birthday present from friends there and I have ordered an aboriginal painting so there will be some picture framing in my future.

I have had a nice read through the thread with a cuppa just now and you are all doing so well.

I am off for a quick shower and then to try to figure out where to start!

Solosunrise · 02/06/2022 06:13

Welcome home @Peridot1! Hope you had a wonderful time and the jetlag doesn't strike too hard!
Your cleaning company sounds a bit useless 😕
I have a similar situation with a load of stuff being in my bedroom while we turn our spare room into an office. But I will soon be getting the dining room back, as DH has been working in there for two years, so it's worth it!

Welcome back Peridot!
Crossing fingers that @SunnyLobelia got away.
4 day weekend! I've been sorting charity shop donations but need to bag them up and put them in the car.

SunnyLobelia · 02/06/2022 08:46

Morning! Thanks we did get away. :) The flights were delayed but considering everything some people are going through I am just grateful they were still running!

It's the first time in years DH has managed to come away with us also so it is all good. Back at the weekend. :)

Welcome home @Peridot1 !! I hope you had a great time but how disappointing about the cleaning company! I am sure your new painting will look amazing.

Hope everyone has a lovely day and a lovely bank holiday. Thanks

Solosunrise · 03/06/2022 07:42

So pleased you made it Sunny
Sounds busy in your house Katie
I have a day a
t home today and have grand plans to get some magnificence achieved.

OP posts:
RunningKatie · 03/06/2022 17:56

What a lovely day! I've just been dusting and wondering how hard it would be to be a minimalist. I think I need everyone to move out first.

Peridot1 · 04/06/2022 12:16

Morning all.

Gradually getting sorted here. Have tackled the cleaning issue by booking a deep clean with a new company for next week and then a weekly clean thereafter if they are ok. It’s a definite luxury but I hate cleaning so much and am far too good at procrastinating about it it ends up being a huge job.

Am also gradually unpacking. Need to do a big sort out of my clothes first really.

Today’s job is to sort the kitchen and dining area after having friends over last night. Second dishwasher load is on. And I have a couple of loads of laundry to do.

Am really struggling with Hayfever so planning on staying indoors. Feel shattered after yesterday. It really wears me out. So an afternoon on the sofa with my book is my plan today.

Gufo · 05/06/2022 07:56

I've fallen off the thread so hopping back on - we had a weekend away, a change of school, family staying, change of job. I feel more has happened in the last month than the last two years 😅

Today's job is putting suitcases in attic as they've been lingering on the landing for a week, and getting clothes ready for tomorrow. I also want to order some new sandals but can't believe I'll need them looking at the weather right now.

StickyFingeredWeeNed · 05/06/2022 08:03

I think I could use a deep clean… and then everyone bar me and my cat moving out…

my dad arrives this week and given the last time he stayed I’d only been in the house a few weeks, I can already feel his judgement about how little has been achieved. He likely won’t - he’s not that type, but it’s weighing on me.

im just trying to get the kids to take their crap upstairs and get enough junk off the floor so I can set the robot hoover loose in their rooms.

a little job - I had a strawberry plant balanced on the wall by the back door. In a fit of pique last week it threw itself off and out of its pot. So I’m going to lovingly scoop it back up and plant it into a bed.

oh and the bastard sunshine keeps showing me just how grubby the kitchen windows are - so I’ll have to crack open then windolene.

RunningKatie · 05/06/2022 19:43

Today I have tackled some of the epic pile of receipts. It's ridiculous and the hairdresser is due tomorrow so I need to tidy up. My house definitely looks half-term-ish!

SunnyLobelia · 06/06/2022 07:54

@StickyFingeredWeeNed I understand your worry about being judged. My parents keep an absolutely immaculate home (in fact their neighbours nickname it 'the show home') and I am always feeling judged when they come to my home which is cluttered and certainly not as I would like it to be.

Today I need to do the post holiday sorting and washing. Then DH and I are going to look at new bathroom furniture as he has finally finished the bathroom and the grouting all dried nicely while we were away.

Solosunrise · 07/06/2022 08:02

I used to feel like that with my mum. An impending visit warranted a mad tidy up session.
Really trying hard to keep our home '15 minutes to company ready' as flylady would say.
I'm getting better but it's exactly why I started this thread! Support, inspiration and accountability, with laughs along the way!
You're all fabulous Flowers

Back to work today. I tried to hoover under a sofa on my lunch break, only to discover that dc1 has scattered caramel popcorn which has stuck everywhere. Thankfully floor is wooden but I've not got it all off yet!

RunningKatie · 08/06/2022 13:39

Today I've gone to sell something on Marketplace only to discover it has been scratched. Marvellous.
One step forward, 2 back.
Listed it as a bargain - scratch can't be repaired but it's a toy and not a bad scratch.

Solosunrise · 08/06/2022 15:28

Oh your posts take me back @RunningKatie!
We have an ancient slightly incontinent cat. Once she's gone I shall replace downstairs carpets. Nobody here dropping popcorn or wiping jam on the sofa anymore though.
Today I have cleaned out two kitchen drawers.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/06/2022 15:34

This is my THIRD go at writing this post - my idiot labrador had got stuck under the desk, and kept pulling out the power cable to the PC, whilst I was in the middle of writing a post. I had to go and get dh to help get her out!!

Anyhow, she is free now, so I can finally write this. I've spent the morning sorting out the information my mum has sent me, on my side of dh's and my family tree, and I've added some new stuff to my tree on Ancestry. I'm not sure how much further I will get - I can't seem to find any more information on there about the people I've already got on the tree. And my FIL wants me to find his mother's biological father - apparently she told him that the man he thought was his grandfather actually wasn't, and his biological father was a German commercial traveller, who was in London at the time, and whose surname might be Schulz. I am fairly good at Googling, but I think this may be beyond me!!

I'm also just waiting for the arrival of the buttons I've ordered, so I can finish the cardigan I'm knitting for when ds1 and his wife have their baby - due in just 8 weeks time!! And I've started crocheting this blanket, in shades of pink, purple and orange - the yarn was my Christmas present from dh last year.

SunnyLobelia · 08/06/2022 17:17

That blanket will look so beautiful @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius

I empathise on incontinent pets @Solosunrise - elderly dogs here. (One now only sadly). We have discovered dog nappies- total gamechanger- not sure if a cat would tolerate them though......

I started clearing out our linen cupboard. We have so many old towels and single bed beddings (no single beds in the house ffs) that I can't fit anything useful in it. Today I disposed of about half of them via a charity bin (all clean and untorn- just we have no need for a single duvet cover or sheets x 12). That was an unexpected project- I was putting things away and got annoyed and started pulling things out. I plan to finish it tomorrow.

I have dropped a day at work (I was supposed to quit but was persuaded to stay with some flexi time.... not sure it's going to work tbh) so I need to decide when my day 'off' is. Probably Friday. That will make a world of difference I hope. My work targets have not gone down a corresponding 20% Hmm . But hopefully Friday can be a good day to do batch cooking and the like. And projects. I have a fair bit of AL up my sleeve so I am taking tomorrow off and will dedicate the day to the garden. It is - quite frankly- a disgrace.

Have a lovely evening everyone.
