Last year there was a lovely long running thread about doing one thing a day that you've been putting off, or just to enjoy the cumulative effect of one extra daily 'thing'.
I'd like to start again, if anyone would like to join me.

Today, I have pulled out a drawer of a little used bureau cabinet, got rid of what is junk, and wiped the drawer out and organised what's left a bit more neatly.

I’ve had a wee NC regular but am a child-bribing bastard who makes solo laugh apparently. 😉

sunny those are so beautiful! I bought similar knocking on 20 years ago when visiting a friend and then left them in the fecking airport in the way home. 😭 at least I’m not still feeling bitter about that…

had a beautiful day yesterday although £400 quid lighter from the optician. But as I always say, it’s nice to be able to see pedestrians when you’re driving. Although as my script is changing annually it’s all getting a little grating. At some point it’ll be cheaper to just get a chauffeur and a golden retriever!

we also swung by the paint shop and swiped some swatches for redecoration so that felt like a positive step. Interestingly, the colour I thought would work for the living room is a total no-go, but a bedroom colour my son picked out is perfect. So we’ll worth going in rather than just buying “blind”.

my living room has come over very “cluttery” in the last week (blasted kids). So I’ll have decant stuff to their proper places and pile stuff on the stairs - which every other bugger will just step over 40 times natch.

There's a mumsnet way to wash my feet?! Eeeek bet I'm doing that wrong! @Solosunrise

Tonight we have an overnight guest, so my task is to get some sleep. The lure of netflix/youtube and chattering kept them up till 2am last time

The MN washing threads are always very entertaining as you get people from both ends of the spectrum. There doesn't seem to be a lot of room for sometimes having a quick blast under the shower to freshen up and sometimes being a bit more thorough. And the 'but surely everybody does it the same way I do it' posters never fail to simultaneously amuse and irritate me.

Hello sticky I like your new name!

@SoloSunrise I want a chandelier in my loo now! It all sounds lovely 😍

Thank you @petalpower I had a lovely time with my friend and coffee turned into lunch. I've had a lot going on at work and I'm feeling stressed and knackered today so I'm getting me some lunch then 40 winks.

Solosunrise · 23/05/2022 14:15

Told you I was knackered. Clearly also brain dead . I'm meant to tag @SunnyLobelia , not myself Blush

@Solosunrise hope you’re feeling better after a rest.
Had a productive and enjoyable day today. My brother is getting married and I’d ordered three different pairs of shoes to try. Settled on the cheapest (result) so had to send one pair back via post and drop the other pair at Next. Also posted Birkenstocks for refurb and picked up prescription in the same trip. Lunch with lovely friend which we also combined with picking up a large plant pot for the rest of my sweet peas and some trailing geraniums then on to drop said return at Next. Followed by a very wet dog walk when I got home.

applestamper · 23/05/2022 20:08

I dropped two bags of clothes to the charity shop today, and hosted a playdate (I always find that a bit of a chore when it's a child I haven't had over before, or two children in this case.) I also cleared out my car, need to run out and Hoover it now and then I'm going to settle down with my book.

Solosunrise · 24/05/2022 06:16

Am feeling more human today thank you petal. Never got my 40 winks yesterday but just slept like a log 9 till 5.30 after a few restless nights. Now for coffee....
I need to do some smug batch cooking today and some meal planning, as I've fallen into old habits about not considering dinner until late afternoon.
I also need to go to the bank, and as all our local ones have closed it means an 8 mile drive.

Congratulations on the cheapest pair of shoes being the best @petalpower! It's sounds like you had a properly productive day.

Oh @applestamper I hope you got to enjoy your book! With 3 children in the days before playdates had a name, we often had their friends over. It was fairly chaotic particularly with the local ones just stampeding in and out (late 80s/early 90s babies when they were still just about all playing in the street) The relief when mine came in for dinner and everyone went home! I thrived on the chaos then, though. I've come over more peace loving since and it's rare we have anyone over now (I meet my friends out more often than not these days)

Afternooon!
I'm off out for lunch, looking forward to a good catch up over a coffee.
This morning I stood in the living room saying "whose is this? Go and put it away!"
Went down like a lead balloon but the surfaces are a bit clearer i refuse to consider that things were just lobbed in bedrooms

petalpower · 24/05/2022 13:30

Ooh I love a lunch out and a catch up @RunningKatie !
My little achievement today is that I’ve phoned the solicitors to book an appointment for my husband and I to update our wills. Can’t tick the job off as complete though as someone needs to call me back to actually make the appointment.

SunnyLobelia · 25/05/2022 20:12

Ooh updating wills is a brilliant job to do. I need to add a codicil to mine relating to a godchild but I keep putting it off.

I have a time off in lieu day tomorrow so plan to power wash the patio. Or something.

Can highly recommend a loo chandelier @Solosunrise Today I just sat for a while turning it on and off toe admire the light. Blush

petalpower · 25/05/2022 20:19

Still haven’t heard back from the solicitors so will need to chase tomorrow.
Managed to tie up some loose ends on finance paperwork today for my elderly aunt - she has Alzheimer’s and I have lasting power of attorney for her.
Went to a medical appointment that I’d been dreading but it was much better than I thought so I’m greatly relieved.

StickyFingeredWeeNed · 26/05/2022 08:09

Kate I take a similar approach - I don’t really GAF what behind your bedroom door looks like - but the living room is a place of zen and relaxation so get your shit out!

I’ve had a really busy couple of days and there’s not been much smugness going on. Had a further win from the car insurance company who emailed to tell me they’d overcharged me by £30… which negates the previous increase AND knocks 15% off the entire premium. How is it that car insurance is the only thing going down in price? 🤷‍♀️ Im just a few quid off a tank of petrol costing the same as 6 months insurance!

I'm still working on clearing out the boiler cupboard in the kitchen, it went back on the to-do list yesterday which contained gems such as “shower” and “dye hair”. Tick and tick fyi.

FoolShapeHeart · 26/05/2022 20:27

My daily projects recently have been to make it to bedtime and then manage to get myself to bed. With a soft focus filter wrt the actual time of bed, I've been reasonably successful. I'm feeling a wee bit less out of control after a lovely afternoon with friends as well as a few awkward items crossed off the list, so I'm upping my game to something more proactive than treading water. Not tonight though, tonight is early night.

RunningKatie · 27/05/2022 09:01

Half term beckons, not sure whether to be relieved or shattered. I still have to work, so am not necessarily available for indepth chats about Pokemon cards!
This weekend I want to clear the top of the cupboard in our bedroom and sort my underwear drawer. I have lots of new pants but they seem to have buried themselves in hidden corners.

SunnyLobelia · 27/05/2022 10:05

Morning all.

Half term... I was desperately looking forward to it as are due to go away. But DH was closely exposed to covid on MOnday and although as of today is testing negative he has developed a cracking headache. So it is a wait and see situation.

Solosunrise · 28/05/2022 06:46

Morning all!
How is DH (and the rest of you) today @SunnyLobelia? I hope you can get away!

We've been decorating (long overdue) Today's small project is to go out and get some hooks for some pictures, and measure up for a frame for a painting that has spent been several years either rolled up and ignored, or pinned to a cork board. I've decided that it's time to treasure it a little and display it.

SunnyLobelia · 28/05/2022 07:44

Ooh painting and framing projects are a favourite here. :)

We are all (as of 30 minutes ago) testing negative. [bites fingers] Not due to leave for a few days yet so ought to know by then I hope for sure. We will do daily tests until time of leaving. But today I will start packing in hopeful anticipation!

I hope everyone else is fine and well. Lovely day out there!

StickyFingeredWeeNed · 28/05/2022 09:44

Rolled up paintings you say? Ones that have maybe done 2 house moves rolled up? 😳

today I’m definitely finishing the floor in the kitchen (missing laminate slats where the gorilla of a fridge used to be).

SunnyLobelia · 29/05/2022 06:26

Morning. Still negative here. [my fingers are tightly crossed]

Yesterday I repainted a garden chair that was chipped. Then ran out of paint.

Today I will buy more paint.

Wishing happy days to all. Thanks

RunningKatie · 29/05/2022 07:50

Fingers crossed for negatives Sunny

It's looking like it's going to be a lovely day here so I think lawns will be mowed.
Sadly we also need to bury our hamster, she's gone to hammy heaven 😥

Solosunrise · 29/05/2022 07:52

Crossing everything for you @SunnyLobelia! I hope you get a well earned break!
@StickyFingeredWeeNed we've lived in this house for a very long time but it's the kind of painting that would have done 2 house moves rolled up Blush
I have this grand plan to display my treasures end get rid of the rest!

OP posts:
SunnyLobelia · 29/05/2022 07:53

Oh i am so sorry about your hamster @RunningKatie :( Thanks

They are such treasured family members. Thinking of you all. x

Solosunrise · 29/05/2022 08:05

So sorry to hear about little hamster @RunningKatie 😔
These tiny little things can break your heart.
Hugs to you all xx

I’ve finished this blanket for the granddaughter my son and daughter in law are expecting, and made a start on a cardigan for her too.
