Another daily project

Last year there was a lovely long running thread about doing one thing a day that you've been putting off, or just to enjoy the cumulative effect of one extra daily 'thing'.
I'd like to start again, if anyone would like to join me.

Today, I have pulled out a drawer of a little used bureau cabinet, got rid of what is junk, and wiped the drawer out and organised what's left a bit more neatly.

@RunningKatie did you get the slime stain out? I have never managed it.

Yes! Spray bottle with 1/3 distilled vinegar to 2/3 water. Spray and leave for 15 mins. And repeat. And repeat.
Honestly, apart from a bit I've not sat and scraped out, no-one would know where it was.

RunningKatie · 13/05/2022 10:40

I've had a busy few days, glad a weekend is looming. I need to sort out 2 drawers of paperwork so dc1 can use them as a bedside cupboard and fill them with rubbish. I think this means I need to buy a plastic box to just chuck them into as it's all important stuff but we have nowhere to keep it.

SunnyLobelia · 14/05/2022 07:02

Morning! [twirls] new namechange.

I have been awol for a few days as I was away for work. Happily back now and was met at the train by DH and the DCs with flowers! (Plus a request for McDonalds for dinner).

Today's project is a garden and child-related one. I am taking the DCs to a nursery and they each get to pick a climibing rose which I plan to train up the side of the uber ugly garden shed (which we will paint first). The DCs are very Hmm about this plan but I have assured them they will love it..... Grin

Solosunrise · 14/05/2022 07:04

I love a good paperwork sort out! The best bit is usually shredding it all. Amazing what a waste of space most papers are.

I have a busy day looming but I have a cluttered drawer that I've been eyeing for a while, so I think that'll be today's project.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!

inebriati ty! I shall look in to that. Turned out in the end that I’d been given the wrong pivot sheet AND the wrong data set - so of course the numbers were NEVER going to match… I was just about ready to quit.

anyway weekend - I have a whole load of stuff to do including ta-da - my first haircut in nearly 2 years. I shaved my hair off completely at some point during covid and it’s now finally long enough for a layered Bob. So hopefully by lunchtime I’m look a little less “Billy ray cyrus”.

my dad’s coming to stay next month and he’ll do a total cat's bum mouth at my paperwork if he sees it. Choices - file it or burn it. 🤷‍♀️

this weekend I have loads of private work to do. After taking on a “real job” I suddenly got flooded with freelance work - so I’ll just have to fit in some smug drying and batch cooking around that. Actually I think I’ll try and plant my seed tatties too.

RunningKatie · 14/05/2022 16:37

I've just thrown out 2 saggy sports bras! I've also laid out my running gear, I've not told dh but I'm aiming to get up and out tomorrow morning. Most of my summer clothes no longer fit, I need to take back control.

Solosunrise · 15/05/2022 07:44

Your posts make me smile @EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter I love your way with words!
Go you @RunningKatie with the running! I take it your user name means you've previously run a lot?
I've dusted off my bike, and pumped tyres so plan to get out this week ( it's a hybrid with no suspension so it's a getting from a to b type) I'm rubbish at running, but am reasonably fit and active.

RunningKatie · 15/05/2022 14:06

I was a runner @Solosunrise but my poor feet are too battered and 3 years ago I hung up my trainers. Since then I've basically felt sorry for myself rather than exercising.
Today we are hanging pictures to finish dc1's room. I'm also on a quest to find my black summer work trousers. Heavens knows where they've hidden themselves!

Gufo · 15/05/2022 16:32

I need to hang some pictures too to finish DC2's room 😊

Job for the day was clearing out the undersink cupboard and hallway cupboard. So dull but so satisfying when I open them now!

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 16/05/2022 10:00

I got all the plants out of the kitchen yesterday bar a few tomatoes which will need a little more indoor TLC. Then I have the kitchen such a cleanin’ even the kids noticed! 😂

today’s job is to find somewhere for the yoghurt maker to live which ISNT on top of the microwave. You might not have thought this was a momentous task - but I’m finding it quite taxing.

my exercise has fallen off a Cliff for various reasons so I’ve just started proper walking again. This means no dog, because it’s not really exercise if you have to stop for 10,000 tiny wees.

RunningKatie · 16/05/2022 15:47

Ddog looks baffled when he sees people out for a walk without a dog. Has to give them a proper look in case they have a stealth dog!
Pictures were hung yesterday. Today i am going to try and unearth the bottom of my wardrobe. There's a sandal in there somewhere, and possibly my work trousers, maybe also an Easter egg. Narnia it is not.----

Solosunrise · 16/05/2022 16:38

Such a good feeling when those cupboards are clean, isn't it, @Gufo ? Well done!

Should do mine....

Im actually quite proud of myself because I had a lazy evening and then an early shift today. Walked back into the house and saw chaos, but with my on going decluttering, it took less than 15 minutes to put straight.
Flylady was right! I love the ease of having less crap to tidy up. I swear if I had my life again my kids would have far fewer belongings!

@EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter I'll never forget my then-four-year-old son asking 'who's coming?' because I'd cleaned the kitchen. It's a big thing when they notice!

OP posts:
Solosunrise · 16/05/2022 16:44

@RunningKatie I'm same as your dog, particularly out in the woods! It's hard to trust a dogless walker. Daft really, as I'm now dogless myself. And I know I'm quite harmless!

I have got to stop eating junk food. It's become a really bad habit and after a lifetime of being effortlessly slim, I've started packing on the pounds. Also, less energy.

OP posts:
RunningKatie · 17/05/2022 12:00

I've found the other sandal in the bottom of the wardrobe, now I need to paint my toenails before I inflict my feet on the world.
Also booked dc into holiday camp and am about to take ddog on a walk.

petalpower · 18/05/2022 06:48

Fell off this thread for a bit. Have been reading but not posting!
Yesterday I went to the dentist and on the way home picked up some paint, dropped a bag of donations at the charity shop and got my tyre pressures checked.
It’s going to be a lovely day today so I want to get all the mattress and pillow protectors washed and dried. Might push the boat out and also wash the dog beds!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/05/2022 11:53

I have managed to finish getting rid of yarn from the conservatory - a total of five bags for life full went out of the house - most of which were snapped up by the other members of the knitting group, and the rest went to the charity shop. I still need to sort out the remaining yarn, and work out what projects it's for - and once I've done that, I may be able to donate some yarn to the Woolly Hugs project. And the conservatory still needs serious tidying, cleaning and de-cobwebbing, but it is looking better than it was.

I've also found out that I am vitamin B12 deficient - I was wondering if that might be contributing to my exhaustion and breathlessness (which I thought was mainly long covid) - so I bought a test online, and when the results came back, I was B12 deficient. My GP wants me to have another blood test - I think it's to find out whether I just need more B12 in my diet, or whether I lack something called intrinsic factor, which enables the body to use the B12 - in which case I'd have pernicious anaemia, and would need regular injections. Either way, it does give me some answers, and if I don't have pernicious anaemia, it's easy to supplement my B12 levels.

Oh - and I've broken a tooth, so I'm off to the dentist tomorrow - not sure that counts as an achievement - lol.

RunningKatie · 19/05/2022 10:58

Good luck at the dentist @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius

Today I need to give the house a quick once over before a sleepover. And I'm going to sort out my ear that is crackling when I move my head, it's getting increasingly annoying.

applestamper · 19/05/2022 13:09

May I join please? Today I contacted customer service on a refund I am due but haven't received. I motivated myself to do it by saying I'll put the refund into my personal spends pot and it worked so I might use that one on myself again Wink
I also filled one bag for life of toys to go; I really want to do a big toy clear out before the holidays as I can't do it when DC are around.

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 19/05/2022 20:24

My car insurance renewed today and when I actually checked the docs it seems I’m not covered for commuting- which of course has only been a recent issue.

so I decided to just deal with it, phoned them up and then got the giggles when told my premium would be increasing. By 30p a month. Would I be ok with that? 😂

i took control of something else too but my brain is jelly, so who knows what it was?

Solosunrise · 20/05/2022 08:28

@RunningKatie I do hope you've taken note of the do you wash your feet thread, and do them properly mumsnet style 😂
Hello @applestamper an excellent strategy- you will definitely fit into this thread 😃

Welcome back @petalpower That is some magnificence right there! I did my cat bed the other day. Cat wasn't impress afterwards. I think it was much like washing a child's beloved stinky comforter!

Well done @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius you have been busy and congratulations on dealing with the health issues. Good luck today too!

Ah @EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter you too have been mighty!

I have had a strange week with some situations that would be Outing if I described them to you all, so suffice to say I have plans to have a bit of a reset around the house first thing, then I'm meeting a friend later to put both our worlds to rights.

petalpower · 20/05/2022 17:00

Nice to see you back too @Solosunrise . Hope you enjoyed meeting your friend.
Today I’ve finally managed to speak to the right department at the hospital to chase up an appointment I was expecting. Now all booked in. Yesterday I also got round to requesting access for my full medical records on the NHS app - all it took was a 30 second phone call. Today I’ve also had a big sort out of the fridge and wiped down all the shelves and compartments. I started to swap over my winter and summer clothes but have stalled halfway through. I think I need to get rid of a load of clothes. There are so many that don’t fit or are not right for my lifestyle now I’m not working. I’ll maybe make a start on that tomorrow.

SunnyLobelia · 20/05/2022 17:20

Hello! Sorry i fell of the thread a bit. Have been away for work. Have been trying to catch up in work I missed while away for work Hmm and have been very involved in other bits and pieces.

BUT- today I picked up my final picture from the framers that was for the downstairs loo. I am delighted. This loo was a bit of a closet and a dumping ground and was painted in a pale cream that had yellowed over the last 20 years and with damp splodges and some plaster down from the ceiling where the bathroom upstairs leaked. It was used to store kitty litter bags and wellie boots and packs of dog nappies, dog leads.

It has been a work in progress.

So, we have new white tiles on the floor and going halfway up the wall. The ceiling is painted white. The walls are painted palest grey (I know it;s naff nowadays but I like it). We have a square silver gilt mirror (Thank you the Range) on the wall, We have a large Japanese fish picture framed in black on one wall. We have a large stylised Japanese looking cat framed in black on the other wall, we have a set of small 3 botanical prints framed in black on the wall directly above the loo with the colour scheme being cream, black and a rich dark green. We have a chandelier because every loo needs a chandelier. So the colours are white, black, grey with little bits of orange and dark green.

I know it sounds like an awful mish mash but because the frames are the same and the colours are the same it works to my eyes.

It's a bit like this, but slightly different, Same sort of theme.

Even better I am the only person who uses the downstairs loo so I get to enjoy it in peace.

RunningKatie · 20/05/2022 17:21

There's a mumsnet way to wash my feet?! Eeeek bet I'm doing that wrong! @Solosunrise

Tonight we have an overnight guest, so my task is to get some sleep. The lure of netflix/youtube and chattering kept them up till 2am last time

petalpower · 21/05/2022 11:32

Enjoy your new bathroom @SunnyLobelia!
I’m very pleased with myself because I’ve found somewhere that I can send my rather battered Birkenstock’s to for refurbishing. I haven’t been able to find any navy replacement ones so am extra satisfied that my old ones will get a new lease of life.
In other news I’ve just planted out my courgettes and tomatoes.
