Last year there was a lovely long running thread about doing one thing a day that you've been putting off, or just to enjoy the cumulative effect of one extra daily 'thing'.
I'd like to start again, if anyone would like to join me.

Today, I have pulled out a drawer of a little used bureau cabinet, got rid of what is junk, and wiped the drawer out and organised what's left a bit more neatly.

And on a happier note, @SpringLobelia you have reminded me I must do same with my patio

Today I fixed a leaky pipe by bodging it with silicon sealant. Doesn't look pretty but now not leaking and don't need a plumber after all!! Bit of a result.

Gufo · 09/05/2022 14:52

What shiny washing machines we will have!

I have continued the appliance maintenance by taking apart and cleaning the hoover. I honestly didn't know you were supposed to do this, and the amount of hair on the brushes was insane. The hoover is about 5 years old... I've also ordered some new filters for it as annoyingly they weren't washable.

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 09/05/2022 15:09

theinebriati you can find out for 50p. Pay your children 50p to find the correct “how to” YouTube video. 😁

Thelnebriati · 09/05/2022 18:48

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter You're an evil genius! 😁

RunningKatie · 09/05/2022 19:10

Is that 50p per child? I have no idea how to do mine either!

Thelnebriati · 09/05/2022 19:19

Its an Indesit 🔎

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 10/05/2022 05:14

You promise 20p per child, I mean it’s YouTube and the shite kids will watch anyway… then you award 50p for “working so well together!” Everyone’s a winner.

*also works for oven door panels and other appliances you threw the manual out for years ago.

Solosunrise · 10/05/2022 07:59

Quite sorry I no longer have children around that I can bribe. I think the best age for usefulness is 11 to 12. Competent but still compliant! Mine are no longer here but they do occasionally come over for a bit of 'ground forcing' and such. We just supply food and a few beers. They'll house sit when necessary too, which is a turn up after the years of having to get babysitters.

Anyway in other news, I am pleased and proud to announce that I have cleaned out a cupboard and made a start on weeding the patio, and it's not yet 8am!

Our dc's seem to have broken YouTube on the firestick so I need to fix that for them so they can free the washing powder dispenser! and also watch terrible gaming videos
The battle of the slime stain has commenced, I've got the black out, now to get the underlying slime out. I fear my nails will be wrecked by the end of it. And as vinegar is a key ingedient, the room smells a bit off.

DinosaurRenaissance · 10/05/2022 17:06

Afternoon. Today's extra thing was to remember to buy a water-filled teething toy for DD. I've been meaning to the last few times I've been shopping and kept forgetting to add it to the list.

I missed the original- what is this slime of which you speak? Cheering you on from the sidelines!

Sympathies for you and a teething small, @DinosaurRenaissance! Is that one of those chewy ones that go in the fridge/freezer (so long ago, I forget, but maybe frozen is too cold?)

Solosunrise · 11/05/2022 07:31

My project today is to look out some pictures of my family and get them printed to go in a multi-picture frame. I'm also thinking of making a printed photo album for my mum's birthday.

katie I just fling the powder in the drum - no need for drawer boak! 😁

I bought some more compost yesterday so am going to make up another bed. Also my composter arrived yesterday so I need to assemble that.

im having a really tough time at work. Long story short - new job public sector - I’m not used to this “pace” and inefficiency and it’s making me very stressed. I should not have to be chugging Valium to get through the day.

RunningKatie · 11/05/2022 09:27

We've got 2 compost bins on the go Edge although our flimsy greenhouse looks like it may not last the summer.
Solo - the slime was unearthed when we decorated and rearranged dc1's room. Black and glittery, but thanks to google it seems to be mostly gone, certainly the colour has, it just feels a bit slimey still.
Today's job is brought to you by end of SATS bribery. I need to go and get some fancy pizzas and doughballs for tomorrow night! 🙂

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 11/05/2022 09:32

I moved house last summer Katie and couldn’t face “moving the garden”, so donated everything to a neighbour. So I’m starting from scratch - didn’t fancy putting a mucky tardis in the lorry!

bribery is great!

solo I’ve had “do photo books” in my calendar for about 7 years… I admire your doing it!

DinosaurRenaissance · 11/05/2022 11:49

@Solosunrise Yep, that's the ones! DD now has a little green frog who goes in the fridge.

Today's job was supposed to be gardening-related but it's been pouring al morning so I'm changing it to a half-hearted attempt at cleaning the oven...

Aria999 · 11/05/2022 18:21

@RunningKatie did you get the slime stain out? I have never managed it.

Solosunrise · 12/05/2022 07:33

I missed this but I am extremely impressed. We have a similar situation with a bit of broken skirting board which is going to be awkward to replace. Have decided to apply wood hardener then fill with filler then paint over it. Hopefully will look respectable till we're ready to get a professional in to do it properly.

Solosunrise · 12/05/2022 07:45

@edge I'm sorry the job is stressing you 🙁
I have not achieved the photo thing so no need for the admiration just yet. I've been meaning to do it for a couple of years. Hoping this thread will make me accountable so feel free to nag!

I did clean my toaster first thing this morning so I'm feeling ahead of myself 💪

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 12/05/2022 08:00

It’s stressful because there is literally nothing to do … yet the system logs you out after 10 minutes, so I can’t even sit back with a book. I’m just constantly flicking the mouse across my desk so I stay logged on. I’d rather be rushed off my feet - this feels like some hideous torture. The small amount of work I do have - I’ve had no training for … and conflicting advice on how to do it. I joked to my manager yesterday that I was just going to make the numbers up… he said he wouldn’t mind as long as they looked ok. 🤷‍♀️

my son assembled the composter yesterday. Amazon reviews had said it was tricky, needed two people etc. Seems like all these years of building warhammer models paid off and it took him about 15 minutes. Good lad! so that needs to be moved outside and into the garden.

a little job today will be to lay a single piece of laminate which I couldn’t do until someone moved the stupid big fridge. It’s only been 3/4 months so I’m totally ahead of the curve on that one.

Solosunrise · 12/05/2022 08:12

I hear you about the job edge. I have a tiny 'sweet spot' between bored senseless and rushed off my feet, in which I perform best. Rushed off feet is preferable for sure, though I get totally overwhelmed if I have to think about too many things at once. I hope things improve! Is there anything you can do about it?

My son did a lot of warhammer and lego back in the day and he is extremely useful too!

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 12/05/2022 08:28

Thank you, that really made me feel better. Not sure there is anything I can do - it’s public sector “so this is the way it’s always been done”. The rest of the team are busy with new software they’re having built… which doesn’t do the job and I feel like banging my head against a wall because I know of commercial software which DOES it all. This shit just wouldn’t fly in the private sector.

I think I need to get into some sort of MH routine and sculpt my day around things I can do close to my desk which are good for me.

Thelnebriati · 12/05/2022 11:46

Thrilling update on my washing machine drawer - apparently if theres no button I'm supposed to just yank it out.

I’m just constantly flicking the mouse across my desk so I stay logged on

@EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter There are apps that will do that for you...
