Last year there was a lovely long running thread about doing one thing a day that you've been putting off, or just to enjoy the cumulative effect of one extra daily 'thing'.
I'd like to start again, if anyone would like to join me.

Today, I have pulled out a drawer of a little used bureau cabinet, got rid of what is junk, and wiped the drawer out and organised what's left a bit more neatly.

I love the pace of this thread in that overachieving means planting THREE things - rather than doing a hot yoga session before 12 hours at your VIP job before whipping up a dinner party for 18 of your closest friends.

Absolutely @EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter! It’s all about getting the little things done that make a big difference after a while.

I’m now back in Dublin so different lists to being at home. Bigger jobs too rather than little things. Big fridge freezer being collected tomorrow so today I’m clearing out under counter fridge and freezer for regular use. Thankfully food waste bin is collected tomorrow. Will also go through food cupboards and get rid of expired stuff. Lots more to be done.

I've never tried hot yoga so today I am scrubbing fish finger encrusted baking trays that dh shoves in the top oven in the mistaken belief that a baking tray cleaning fairy resides in there.

Aria999 · 07/04/2022 16:24

@RunningKatie you realize you are perpetuating his belief in this fairy?

Any tips on getting the wretched things clean? Mine have recently developed gunk on them that will come off if I use my fingernails but seems immune to all forms of scrubber.

Oh it is such a huge job clearing and sorting. Thanks Hope it goes smoothly.

I have again outdone myself. I took the picture down to be realigned. It is part of a set and I am waiting to see how long it is before DH notices it has gone. (It;s been there well in excess of 18 years). If he does not notice then i am selling everything in the house I can lay my hands on [cracks knuckles].

Then I contacted our local auction house and booked them to come and pick up some extraneous furniture that we HAVE been talking about selling for some time.

I also discovered that I cannot get a refund on our London eye trip that i booked hastily and then repented as DS1 will not cope. Turns out that no refunds are actually in the small print. (My excuse is that I used to be a lawyer back in the day and now very rarely look at the small print. Blush [bangs head] )

never mind. It's been a pretty good day and I really AM getting things done slowly.

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 07/04/2022 16:47

Ugh. Small print. Am not a fan. I tend to put in my contracts (for real!) “both parties agree not to be dicks”. 😂

Wire wool for oven trays? But I’m wondering if a dishwasher tablet might do its magic - they’re good for glass Oven doors.

petalpower · 07/04/2022 18:59

Changed the beds and cleaned the bathrooms today then went to see a lovely friend that I used to work with and haven’t seen since before Covid. Fab lunch and catch up with her. Then a bit of a wild goose chase to try to fill my car up with diesel - seems to be a few supply issues locally. Now having a glass of wine to celebrate my aunt’s house sale finally completing after many months. She is in a nursing home with Alzheimer’s and her house wasn’t local to us so it’s been a bit of an ordeal.

merryhouse · 07/04/2022 22:44

Today I started mending the falling-apart karate trousers.

This involved ripping off the hemmy bit at the bottom, so that was exciting. Then used up an already-threaded needle turning over about three inches of the worn part.

Had to stop there to make up the pies, but I might finish it tomorrow. Another ten inches of hemming and then swear over trying to sew the hemmy bit back on (solid needle and a thimble essential)

Hmm, then I'll have to do the other leg Grin Still, we have two weeks off...

JingsMahBucket · 08/04/2022 06:46

Mind if I join this thread? It feels like a relaxing breath of fresh air in our busy world.

Peridot1 · 08/04/2022 07:44

Welcome @JingsMahBucket! It’s a lovely thread.

So yesterday cleared out the freezers and defrosted the freezer that’s going. Cleaned out the under counter fridge to use. It was mainly used for overflow stuff. Also remembered to get cash to pay the guys picking furniture up and cleaning the oven.

Today I will take all the stuff down from the top of the kitchen units and do some general cleaning. Sister coming to help this afternoon so we are hoping to tackle a bedroom. With very old and stained carpet. Not sure what to do about that as it’s so bad. I think if we move furniture around we can hide the staining for estate agent photos but it needs sorting somehow.

Solosunrise · 08/04/2022 08:32

Ripping off hemmy bits and making pies @merryhouse sounds totally wonderful. And I can definitely get on board with your time frame re the trousers!
Hello @JingsMahBucket *waves!

Sorry I don't have time to comment on individual posts but I do love to read them all.
Best wishes all round, and well done on all the successes Flowers

I'm still smiling at this comment!

Yesterday my overachieving consisted of sweeping the kitchen floor before work, home at 2 (semi retired and happy!) Phoned my mum and my daughter, brushed Ancient Cat, finished clearing the dining room table (a 3 day job at current speed) Hoovered.
The dining room table counts as The Project because that will stay done longer that the cat and the mother, who will both require attention again quite soon.

Husband got forced out on a walk with me too. My job is active but he's on his backside at work (from home) all day and left to his own devices he'd not leave the house at all. Was very windy but good to be out :)

OP posts:
RunningKatie · 08/04/2022 09:43

Day off! Day off! Day offffffffff!
I've tidied up the hall so we can get in and out of the house without falling over the shoes that cannot make it another 6 inches to the shoe rack.
Paired some socks, emptied the dishwasher and now I'm having a quiet flop on the sofa. Rookie error though, my coffee is in the other room.

PierresPotato · 08/04/2022 10:55

I'm on light duties for a while yet. So I'm in "putting the little things away" mode, ignoring floor level where I normally focus. It's always the details I ignore so this is a bit of a novelty! I might sort out the pencil and pen jugs as part of it.

Cherrysoup · 08/04/2022 13:15

I cleaned the massive kitchen window, inside and out, then I did the sliding glass doors to the conservatory. So satisfying, even if there are now 2 nose smudges on the conservatory doors from flying dogs.

Today, I’m going to plant seeds.

Solosunrise · 08/04/2022 13:48

Hurrah for days off!! The whole of your post resonates here @RunningKatie - it hasn't improved since kids left home so I can't even blame them!
Don't overdo it @PierresPotato! Stay well Flowers
I've just cleaned our kitchen window too @Cherrysoup! The sun came out and it made me realise how filthy they were.

OP posts:
Solosunrise · 08/04/2022 13:59

Now I'm sitting with a coffee and contemplating putting a monthly window wash on my calender.
And pondering on future projects - I need to sort out some bookshelves I think. I try not to keep too many books but I have a pile of unread one, and some do warrant keeping, even though I prefer a fairly minimalist home (clutter overwhelms me)

Paint small cloakroom

Plant tomatoes and potatoes. Looking at a tiny greenhouse at local garden centre. Would be really useful for tomatoes. They also have some flatpack wooden planting troughs that aren't too expensive, as I have a lot to learn about gardening so those few things might be something simple enough for me to manage.

SwimBike007 · 08/04/2022 17:18

Made me smile too @EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter the pace feels more human here.

Lost tidying mojo this week as various people in house off sick so juggling them whist moving my mouse to look like Im working more than capable of. Kids off now for 2-wks but I’m not so think it will mainly be survive in tact mode. I have been putting off a tip run for weeks now so will try to achieve that. Bigger Project is painting a room, I started cleaning it 10d ago then got knocked off glide path by the sick kids & DH 🙄

petalpower · 08/04/2022 21:55

After sitting for about half an hour waiting to live chat British Gas I managed to update my aunts meter readings to close down the account for her house. They wouldn’t accept my readings online as her house hadn’t been lived in for quite a few months and didn’t matchup to what they thought her consumption should be. All done now. Another job ticked off.

Peridot1 · 09/04/2022 11:26

Morning all.

Well done on clean windows! That needs doing here too. And at my actual home.

So lots achieved here yesterday.

Fridge freezer and furniture collected.
Oven, hob and extractor fan cleaned and new bulbs installed.
Furniture semi moved in bedroom - will finish today
Booked a buy to come and fix some damaged plaster over a window - in typical Irish fashion turns out he knew my Dad and thinks he actually did the plaster work in our kitchen extension when Dad built in in the early 80s.

Todays plan
Make up a bed for my sister who is staying tonight - done
Supermarket shop - done
Finish back bedroom - move furniture, vacuum, dust, clean paintwork, clean window, make up beds
Clean grouting and window in bathroom

And it’s amazing how some people expect things to get done without them helping .

RunningKatie · 09/04/2022 15:40

Today I've tested the smoke alarms, all working which is good to know.
I'm planning on tackling the ironing mountain this eve.

SwimBike007 · 09/04/2022 17:55

Your better than me I stopped doing ironing 2yrs ago and just hang stuff up wet on hangers. No one has moaned yet Grin

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 09/04/2022 18:56

Katie - was that a “planned” test or “incidental”? Grin
