Another daily project

Last year there was a lovely long running thread about doing one thing a day that you've been putting off, or just to enjoy the cumulative effect of one extra daily 'thing'.
I'd like to start again, if anyone would like to join me.

Today, I have pulled out a drawer of a little used bureau cabinet, got rid of what is junk, and wiped the drawer out and organised what's left a bit more neatly.

@Seiheiki

Morning.

Still new to this, but this thread helped me so much last week.

I'm not working until much later today, then a few crazy busy days ahead. So, I need to make the most of free time today.

Aims are:

  • Sort rest of books and put charity ones in my car to drop off later.
  • Empty and clean fridge
  • Open post
  • Laundry
  • Vacuum bedroom
  • Vacuum sofa
  • Walk my dog
  • Washing up
  • Laundry
  • Ironing
  • Put holiday clothes away
  • Put suitcases away.
Productive morning so far.

Suitcases are emptied and put away.
Bedroom is vacuumed.
Ironing is done and put away.
Sorted 1 binbag for charity so far.

Todays odd jobs were decorating cork up the stairs, glossing the window sill, cleaned junk off top of fridge/freezer. Sealant gaps in bathroom. Booked a window & gutter cleaner. We have decided to prep to putting our house for sale so it’s great to keep ticking off the tidying & de cluttering jobs.

SwimBike007 · 28/03/2022 14:21

Does anyone have ideas for CDs? We’ve got 200+ I think. I’ve scanned a few on music magpie but most worth 5p, so I’m guessing the cost of posting them it’s not worth it. Do they just go to landfill? Seems such a shame.

I don’t think they will take them as they just don’t sell many any more

Solosunrise · 29/03/2022 08:05

Hello everyone! @PierresPotato is today the big day? If so, very best wishes to you Flowers

Today I'm mostly grateful for previous smug soup moments as I've been feeling unwell for a couple of days, so frozen soup was pressed into action. A future self being grateful to past self kind of thing (note to self to continue!)

So no projects, just work and survival. DH has held things together he's a good sort.

@SpringLobelia no idea what film I watched because I fell asleep as the intro music finished. But I have been recommended Green Book to watch, if that's any help Smile

Today I would really like to do a bit in the garden, and I've been promising myself that I'll dust off my bike, so I think I'll make that my project today. Access from back of house to front is a challenge as we are mid terrace.

Another Monday everyone. Let's see what small and powerful things we can achieve this week!

OP posts:
EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 29/03/2022 08:42

You do know it’s not Monday right? 😂

It’s snowing here so I have zero responsibility towards the garden.

I need to work so am going to ignore projects today apart from a few admin bits.

Solosunrise · 29/03/2022 08:49

Oh @EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter you are quite right Blush I'm blaming menopause - look: I knew it was Tuesday when I tagged Pierres 😅

Can't believe you have snow! It's very springy here (south)

OP posts:
RunningKatie · 29/03/2022 09:16

Not snowing here but I think we're due some tomorrow.
Dishwasher on, going to nip to the library and a supermarket, then meeting a friend for lunch.
Yesterday I cleaned a mark off the kitchen window that had been there for ages, but you only saw it at a certain angle. Months of irritation - solved in 2 mins. Hurrah!!!

SpringLobelia · 29/03/2022 10:52

We are due snow too this week! I am very excited. :)

Thanks for the Green Book recommendation @Solosunrise . I used to be a very enthusiastic film goer and this has waned over the years with the stresses of daily life. I need to start up again.

DH sadly saw my skip hire notes and has been telling me how many trips to the tip in petrol one skip hire would cost. We are 'in discussion' about it. Hmm

I have booked a trip to London for me and the Dcs in a couple of weeks. Today I need to try and get a refund on the London eye because I allowed enthusiasm to get the better of me and forgot that DS1 will not be able to cope with it and a full on ASD meltdown in a small glass cage is probably not the best way to begin our holiday. I also need to put up a new picture I bought for the DCs room. It is a lovely painted cat that looks alot like our cat who we sadly lost 2 weeks ago.

Hope everyone has a lovely day!

SpringLobelia · 29/03/2022 10:54

Hope you feel better also @Solosunrise . Thanks

It's amazing how it often takes minutes to sort something that's been an annoyance for ages. Well done! Enjoy your lunch Smile

Argh @SpringLobelia I feel your pain about the skip! How frustrating to have to keep these things quiet! Sometimes the relief from just getting rid of stuff outweighs the extra expense, doesn't it?
I feel you have your hands very full with your lovely family Flowers I think you do need to create a peaceful garden oasis.
I'm so sorry to hear about your cat. They break your heart don't they? I have a very ancient one who is on borrowed time, but she soldiers on!

I'm planning to watch Green Book tonight as I've promised to compare notes with the person who recommended it. In return he is going to watch The Gentlemen, and let me know what he thinks of that!

Burnt0utMum · 29/03/2022 12:47

How old is your cat @Solosunrise? Mine is 15 and definitely in her golden years but I'm hoping we still have plenty of years together.

I hope you get your refund for the London Eye @SpringLobelia.

Today, I've done a general tidy up downstairs and managed to clean a few of the fridge drawers. Ran out of time this morning so I'll have to continue tomorrow with it.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 29/03/2022 12:48

Placemarking to read later 😊

Solosunrise · 29/03/2022 13:23

She's 15, but she's on medication for a dicky ticker, so every day is a bonus ♥️ @Burnt0utMum

SpringLobelia · 29/03/2022 13:41

Thanks @Solosunrise Thanks
Thanks also @Burnt0utMum Thanks

Our cat was 16. She had stomach cancer. She was incredible. She was so fierce that she would chase foxes from the garden. She would also give us all frequent dressing downs whenever we failed her in some way. We utterly adored her.

I do need an oasis you are right @Solosunrise . I am also determined to wear DH down on the subject of the skip. We can afford a skip and I just want to clear and declutter without any additional faff.

Peridot1 · 29/03/2022 14:00

You are very patient @SpringLobelia. My DH would be similar to yours about hiring a skip but I’d be a lot less patient with the moaning! Sometimes you just have to do it. Yes it may be cheaper to do many trips to the tip but you have to factor in time as well as petrol costs. The benefits of spending a bit more will far outweigh the actual cost.

I didn’t achieve much yesterday. Really struggling with motivation at the moment. I did book Hilary’s to come and quote for blinds and I ordered some meds I needed. Did a few loads of laundry.

Today I’ve done another few loads of laundry - all DS’s who announced yesterday he was out of clean underwear Hmm. Also went to garden centre with DH and bought some herbs for pots and a few plants we need to finish off a bed.

I’m about to go and do some of the clearing of the spare room I was supposed to do yesterday.

FoolShapeHeart · 29/03/2022 14:25

I've just found this thread & you're all exactly what I need to instill some accountability! There's not a single part of my house that doesn't need something doing, and it's so overwhelming that I've not been able to start.

Today I will:
fold & put away MiniFool's clean laundry that's been piled up since last week
clear the random pile of stuff from in front of the hall bookcase to use as an interim spot for clearing out everywhere else
change MiniFool's bedding
run the dishwasher
wash & hang a load of laundry
water the indoor plants
replace a lightbulb that died longer ago than I'm prepared to admit

Solosunrise · 29/03/2022 15:08

@perodot mine would be ok but I'd have to organise it.
I'm enjoying the things that make a difference element around here because we are both procrastinators but he's worse than me. Also he doesn't mind if the house isn't tidy and he's happy with the garden as long as the lawn is mown and the hedge is trimmed. He does that though. I've rarely mown the lawn.
We are good together because neither hassles the other, but if one of us wants a thing done there's no chance of the other doing it.
Some things are beyond me with my weedy 5' frame and fear of heights, and every now and again I threatened to Get Someone In, and that usually galvanised him into action.
But what I'm trying to do is get any prep work done so that if Someone is summoned, they would be able to get on with it.
I've noticed that I often procrastine because jobs look overwhelming, so I have embraced bite sized chunks....

Hello@FoolShapeHeart and welcome! Don't overdo it!! I look forward to your update when you have changed your bulb!

OP posts:
FoolShapeHeart · 29/03/2022 17:04

@Solosunrise thanks! Bedding changed, plants watered, washer & dishes on then got distracted by the obscene number of child coats everywhere, so I rigged up a temporary solution until I know what space we have. Five minutes break then the lightbulb before it gets dark & I'm using a lantern again! My list will usually be shorter, but if I clear the hall & clothes piles I'll be ready to dig into some decluttering tomorrow.

petalpower · 29/03/2022 18:22

Achieved lots today after a few busy but relatively unproductive days. Card written and sent to friend, solicitor paid for my aunt (I have lasting power of attorney), towels changed, recycling put out, paperwork filed for same aunt, glass recycling taken to the bottle bank (no idea where all the empties came from 🍷), ironing done and put away, aunt’s skirt taken to neighbour to fix, birthday cards forwarded to son and water softener service booked. There was probably more. I’m now very tired!!

SwimBike007 · 29/03/2022 18:52

No snow here too close to the sea normally.
I had a quote from a work man today that I’d been meaning to sort out and painted at random bit of the towel rail in silver craft paint as it had worn away and it appears to have worked yah! Nursing migraine now so just got to survive bedtime with kids before collapse. Ooh I did try to stick some wallpaper back down where the corner keeps coming up too. Hope to achieve more tomorrow.

SpringLobelia · 29/03/2022 18:59

Evening. I will not go into too much detail because I am wrung out but I had some firm words with DH about the state of the house and the skip and the fact he wants to do everything himself because workman don't do things properly and as a result we quite literally have a section of our house rotting into the ground.

I am apparently being dramatic, but we have agreed that i am at least allowed to get quotes in. And can hire a skip (after we together make a list of what needs to be skipped).

Baby steps. I do not imagine either of these things will happen any time soon but the seed has been sown.

merryhouse · 29/03/2022 22:57

Fell off the thread

my excuse is that H has the plague - as have 4 other people I was with this time last week. No idea how I'm still testing negative

Thawed and iced S2's birthday cake. Made ermine frosting exactly properly (oooh, tell a lie, I realised I hadn't replaced the caster sugar and decided granulated would make no difference)
