Last year there was a lovely long running thread about doing one thing a day that you've been putting off, or just to enjoy the cumulative effect of one extra daily 'thing'.
I'd like to start again, if anyone would like to join me.

Today, I have pulled out a drawer of a little used bureau cabinet, got rid of what is junk, and wiped the drawer out and organised what's left a bit more neatly.

I just found this thread, can I join too?

So far this morning I have put everything away so that the cleaners can clean, and I did put most of it away rather than just shoving it in the closest drawer! But that was because they came at 10 rather than the usual 8am

This afternoon I really want to sort out my conservatory which I shoved everything into when my painters came last week to paint the kitchen/living room. Its a big job, so I might just attack the shoes and coats first.

SkiRun0077 · 25/03/2022 16:12

Took knobs off oven & cleaned front all off grease marks and left oven glass soaking with washing powder in hope I can get grease off easier…

SkiRun0077 · 25/03/2022 16:18

Forgot yesterdays random task was fill hole on windowsill with decorators cork and undercoat it when dry. Was supposed to gloss it today but may leave that till tomorrow now.

PierresPotato · 25/03/2022 17:30

I didn't do the papers tidy yesterday apart from the 1 minute putting stray books on their shelf.
Today I have filled in a form and changed some bookings so I am filing and binning as I go and making a dent now. It will be looking better by end of today.
I am vacuuming everywhere thoroughly so floors are looking good. Cleaning sink fly lady style too. (Well not too shiny, just clean)

RunningKatie · 26/03/2022 16:57

Hope everyone is enjoying the good weather. I'm sitting doing paperwork whilst watching a film.

lightand · 26/03/2022 17:03

I have been 18 months on and off trying to tidy my house.
I keep thinking I am nearing the end, but not as near as I would like.

Been doing the garage for the last 3 days, while the weather is nice.

It has rather alarmed me actually how long it takes to be tidy, after not being too fussed about being too tidy for years.
What tipped me over the edge one day, was helping to empty a house after my aunt died. Realised just how much stuff a house has, how long it all takes to sort, and realising how I didnt want my kids to one day have to sort through my house.

Plus which, as we age, our health can deteriorate, and I certainly dont fancy trying to sort out a house if I get ill.

Solosunrise · 26/03/2022 17:29

Hello everyone. Glorious, isn't it!
@lightand I totally agree with you about getting it done sooner rather than later.

I've had a couple of busy work+ days, so I'm a bit shattered, but my small task yesterday was to wipe down kitchen window sill and get rid of (recycle) some old papers and magazines.

Today I have just 'reset to zero'. Only been in half an hour but swore I'd run hoover round, do a quick dust and clear kitchen surfaces. That's been achieved, the loo is clean and bed was made when dh got out of it. I've just found a previously batch cooked bolognaise in freezer so that'll be dinner.
So that's me done for the day, going to chill in front of a film now

Been a bit busy with lots of every day life stuff over the past couple of days but will be back on it after the weekend! Well done to everyone else for their impressive achievements. Smile

SpringLobelia · 27/03/2022 08:03

Morning!

Yesterday i spent the entire day dealing with documentation with a bank (which i had to travel some distance to) over a bank account I am to be a trustee of. TBF the bank staff were exceptionally helpful, and a bank that opens at the weekends is worth it's weight in gold! (Metro Bank if anyone wants to know). I took myself off for a glass of wine afterwards though.

My new chest of drawers is nicely in situ and I have placed a vase and some daffodils on top of it.

Today I need to do some general tidying. But I woke up in the middle of the night and planned hiring a skip this week. My DH is most reluctant to spend money hire things or outsource things which means things never get done so I am just going ahead to sort it and present it as a fait accompli when he wonders why there is a skip in the driveway. Grin . We actually had alot of storm damage during Storm Eunice and I need to clear broken bricks, glass and a chimney pot. There is a slight chance I will take the opportunity to clear alot of other stuff as well but I will keep that in reserve so poor DH is not too overwhelmed all at once. Grin (Does not like change, that man).

Oooh! what film did you watch @Solosunrise? I am in need for some film watching. :)

SpringIobelia - thank you for the reminder about the bank. I’ve been trying to change my home address with one of my banks since august Hmm but they’re just not dealing with it. I’m going to write a letter today and personally shove it through the letterbox of my “local” branch because I’m getting no joy contacting head offices in either London or Edinburgh ffs.

lightand I feel a bit like that too. Not quite ready for shuffling off my mortal coil - but do need to sort shit out. £1000s worth of clothes I couldn’t get over my knees… I’d hate for them to be tossed in a skip.

Lockdown really fucked me over. Single parent stick at home with SEN kids. Nowhere to donate/do and when they eventually went back to school I emerged into a fug of dust and clutter I still feel I’m not on top of.

I drew up a smug list last night but am feeling CBA, so instead of putting the washing on the line, I’m going to throw it in the drier and make Greta cry.

Burnt0utMum · 27/03/2022 08:37

Hi all, please can I join too? This is such a good idea to help stay motivated.

We've only been in this house 1.5 years and it's a doer upper so I feel like everywhere I look I can see things that need to be done.

Yesterday, I went to IKEA and bought some false plants for the dining room and a new rug for the living room. It's made such a difference and made me smile when I came downstairs this morning.

Today I want to clean the doors downstairs.

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 27/03/2022 10:16

Hi burntoutmum ! I moved last summer and am sorting out shit I should’ve done before I moved, the chaos of moving day, life in general.

My makes-a-difference job today is that I’ve just taken all the camping stuff I shoved in the bottom of the boiler cupboard (in the kitchen) on moving day - and put it out in the shed.

This means I now have lots of extra room in the kitchen to store small appliances and hopefully can reduce some clutter.

PierresPotato · 27/03/2022 16:18

Anyone getting things done, well done!
I'm in the countdown to going in hospital Tuesday so if I pack my bag today all will be well.
I've done the very important tasks of sunbathing and preparing a very healthy lunch then enjoying it in the sun.🌞
I'm also well on the way to emptying the wash basket in a special effort. Go me!

PierresPotato · 27/03/2022 16:18

@SpringLobelia, hiring a skip is a long held dream of mine. Congrats.

RunningKatie · 27/03/2022 16:24

We moved 10 years ago this summer and I still come across stuff that shouldn't have moved with us! We also decided last night we have stuff in the shed and the garage that needs to be swapped, and the shed needs to be fixed. Not a 5 min job!
Today I've planted some bulbs, done some pruning and I'm just sitting with my feet up and a cup of tea.

SwimBike007 · 27/03/2022 20:12

Another black sack removed from the kids crafting draws cabinet Smile Tomorrow I want to get the silicone gun out as I spotted few bits in bathroom got missed when updating it a couple of months ago.

thefootballcoacheswife · 27/03/2022 21:14

Love this thread. I'm packing to Move house on Thursday and I've found boxes that I've moved twice before and never even opened. Livid with myself. I've taken a bunch of stuff to the tip today. Satisfying!

Burnt0utMum · 28/03/2022 08:07

Today I just want to generally keep on top of the mess the kids have created over the weekend. Feeling very tired this morning and starting work soon so not going to set my targets any higher than that.

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 28/03/2022 09:07

I declared war on the dining table yesterday and demanded everyone take their shit to their rooms.

I then claimed it back as my sewing table, fixed a duvet cover where the stitching had come undone and a pair of jeans which had a “peep hole”. I also assembled a pattern I printed in October(?) and cut all the fabric pieces so now I just need to see it together. It’s for a new job next week and it’ll save me spending the week idly shopping…

EdgeOfSeventeenAndThreeQuarter · 28/03/2022 09:08

I also finished off a pair of pyjamas I started making for DS2 last September?

Peridot1 · 28/03/2022 09:08

Morning all.

Not a particularly productive weekend here. I did do loads on Friday to get sorted for friends coming to stay Friday night. Just chilled for the rest of the weekend. House has stayed fairly tidy though.

Except the small spare bedroom. Everything got dumped in there. And it already still had all the Xmas decorations in there that need to go in to the loft.

Today’s jobs are to do a list of everything I want to do - a proper brain dump list. Take a couple of bags of stuff to clothes recycling boxes. Wash some bed covers/throws that are going to charity as they have been sitting in spare room for a while and could do with freshening up. And clean the cooker.

Also going to contact a blacksmith in the village to see if he can make me a curtain pole. And book Hillary’s to come and quote for blinds in the kitchen and utility room.

Seiheiki · 28/03/2022 09:36

Morning.

Still new to this, but this thread helped me so much last week.

I'm not working until much later today, then a few crazy busy days ahead. So, I need to make the most of free time today.

Aims are:

  • Sort rest of books and put charity ones in my car to drop off later.
  • Empty and clean fridge
  • Open post
  • Laundry
  • Vacuum bedroom
  • Vacuum sofa
  • Walk my dog
  • Washing up
  • Laundry
  • Ironing
  • Put holiday clothes away
  • Put suitcases away.
RunningKatie · 28/03/2022 11:33

I have found the receipt I need for my expenses, so doing that now.
I want to tackle dc2's room, it's a total mess. Can't decide whether to start this week or leave till the Easter holiday.
Menu plan and food shop this eve for me. And finish a college assignement.
