Are you taking any steps because of the Ukraine situation?

The situation for those in the country is heartbreaking, I've sobbed at several news stories this morning and my heart aches for a Ukrainian friend whose family is still there.

On a far more selfish, practical level have you "done" anything to protect yourself and your own situation? If nothing else I can see an impending deepening of the financial crisis. A friend has taken all her money out of the bank, for example, but it's true she's prone to a bit of drama. Gas supply worries me a lot.

Is there anything we should be doing now to help a bit if the situation is prolonged or worsens?

Please God, don’t tell the the fuckwits are back again panic buying. It’s these idiots that cause the shortages!
FFS, if WW3 happened having a house full of bog roll is hardly going to help is it?

You could build a loo roll bunker? Sit in it and eat your tinned tomatoes out of the can.

You could just scroll past if you're not interested/are worried by them.

You don't HAVE to read them!!

Loads of toilet rolls on Amazon, is often easier to just get a 48 pack from there and be done with it rather than fannying around buying it in a shop

DetailMouse · 25/02/2022 18:32

Sigh. First, a bit of forward planning is not the same as panic buying. If everyone had planned ahead and kept a decent stock of loo roll in, no one would have been queuing for it.

Second? I ve said (repeatedly) I'm not talking about war reaching our shores, but countless other ways our lives could be affected long before it reaches that point (and let's hope it never does).

Fuckwits who can't read Grin

It's an example of chaos caused by nationwide being down for a few hours?

DetailMouse · 25/02/2022 18:34

@User5rh

DH and I have 3 different bank accounts between us and 5 different credit cards, best to spread the risk in case one or two go down.
There we are, a sensible practical solution we could all do fairly easily with no effect on anyone else. Why the hysteria at the idea people might think about these things.?

I would say that keeping you car full up of petrol would be a good idea and having 'some' cash. But realistically not more than that

TheUsualShitshow · 25/02/2022 18:38

@WutheringHeights66

Morrison's was very low on bog roll today, I suspect the panic loo roll buyers are at it again. I couldn't even get four rolls of Shea Butter and had to resort to unscented toilet of the expensive brand.
We've had this on and off for a few weeks, I think it's more Brexit related than anything else.
Sparklingbrook · 25/02/2022 18:38

DH and I have a mixture of bank and building society accounts and different debit/credit cards. DS2 has other different ones. We seem to be accidental Preppers. Go us.

I have had 2 credit cards ever since DH and i both got hacked one christmas. it was fine and we didn't lose any money but both cards got suspended while they sent us new ones and christmas shopping was a pain.

DH & I have 4 bank accounts between us & 4 credit cards (one with a big limit). It's just laziness but it can't be that unusual.

But surely anyone reacting now is panic buying?
How forward planning should people be, first it was Brexit, then Covid & now war so 7 years ago? 😆

@Tigersonvaseline but it's nothing like the chaos of war which was the point.

By all means have food stocks if you often get snowed in or have one ferry to the mainland a week but they are completely different scenarios to the "Ukraine situation".

Tigersonvaseline · 25/02/2022 18:50

Cheddez can you stop @ me please.

I can't grasp your point.

I can't be bothered to type on my phone why.

cheddez · 25/02/2022 18:57

At least your honest 😆

cheddez · 25/02/2022 18:59

I only did it once though, are you confusing me with someone else?

whatistheworld · 25/02/2022 19:06

@Vimto1991

Why are you worried about gas? We get ours from Norway, not Russia.
we get ours from Norway but Norway have to supply the EU before us if needed. So we wont be getting any gas from Norway. You can thank Brexit

90% of my assets were in bitcoin, now 100% are

katepilar · 25/02/2022 19:13

OP, do whatever you think yo need to do. Being prepared will make your life easier if any bad scenarios happens. Those who are laughing now wont be laugning then.

mammajustkilledagnat · 25/02/2022 19:14

Surely cryptocurrencies at not the thing to trade in at the moment? Won't it be impacted because countries won't want trading in an unregulated entity?

Bitcoin is not a crypto currency, I don’t trade in bitcoin, it’s an asset. It’s decentralised, no one can control it.
mammajustkilledagnat · 25/02/2022 19:26

How is it not a cryptocurrency. Genuine question.
