@OnlyOpenMouthToChangeFeet

A PP asked how many troops we have compared to Russia. We have approximately 25,000 infantry..... Russia have about 400,000

Shit that's loads

Thoosa · 24/02/2022 18:14

Apparently internet and phone lines are down in many cities/towns as well

That was quick. Poor Ukrainians.

leopooh · 24/02/2022 18:16
  • frenchcheeses Britain won't do much about it, Johnson and much of his party is in the pocket of Putin. Why was the Russian Report never published? Because it exposes how compromised Johnson and his cronies are. Two of their biggest donors are Russian*

And this is why Putin knows it's BS

TheViewFromTheCheapSeats · 24/02/2022 18:18

Nearly all my large extended family is there, my oldest children left this morning.
I just can’t process it

Alexandra2001 · 24/02/2022 18:18

BJ full of shit, just said the scales (on Russia) have fallen from the eyes of our friends and partners in Europe... what c u next tuesday.

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 18:19

I am so sorry theview I hope they will find a safe passage and will soon be with you safely.

BJ still plans to reduce the 25k to 19k and to reduce the size of UK military by 10k.

Russia has about conscripted 280k infantry, the rest are mercenaries.

Jewel52 · 24/02/2022 18:20

Agree this has been in the pipeline for years. Those who warned about the infiltration of China in 5G in the UK and the hacking capabilities of Russia were dismissed as conspiracy theorists. They’ve understood so much more the nature of war in 2022. Johnson and Trump thought they could make pets of them - what fools! They both spoke loudly and carried a twig

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 18:21

There are some pp that just sit there and run down the PM, on a loop day after day to what means no one will know, but we have people now that are directly affected by what is happening there.

I feel for everyone in Ukraine.
My respect to the Russians that will try to rise up and stop this, and have already tried. Please keep trying. You can not have this happen in your name.

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 18:22

alex You post that same thing on every thread all over the forum. Do y you think anyone gives a shit? Nope. We are comfortable with our level of protection thanks.

Hills can you expand rather than making us Google

@Roundeartheratchriatmas

Chatter online suggesting Russia have taken Chernobyl.

Unconfirmed.

Could anyone explain (hopefully in a non terrifying way) what this could mean? Are they wanting to take nuclear power from there?

Thinking of your family and hoping they are kept safe and well.
Tigersonvaseline · 24/02/2022 18:29

Alex the more pertinent stats re army are those in the EU
Spain, France, Germany, Belgium , Netherlands, Romania etc.what spending, what soldiers...we pale into insignificance.

PerkingFaintly · 24/02/2022 18:30

Oh goodness, TheViewFromTheCheapSeats, thinking of you and your family and friends.

“Protection” as in the size of HM Forces?

If so there are certainly plenty of people who have been becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the level of the UK’s protection…..trouble has been getting that POV heard above the “punch above our weight” boosterism.

Chernobyl (the area) is a geographically important for the invasion.
Chernobyl (the nuclear reactor) isn’t important in terms of nuclear war.

Xenia · 24/02/2022 18:34

Number of troops is pretty irrelevant in modern warfare. North Korea and China have lots too, but they are not well trained and not well fed. Modern warfare is different and the UK is pretty good at it as are the Americans and French etc.

Tanith · 24/02/2022 18:36

I thought Chernobyl was still unsafe?

www.chernobyl-international.com

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 18:39

not I am comfortable with our capabilities of modern warfare. It is no longer about the number of boots on the ground, things have moved on. It is the reason we are able to reduce the numbers as we have. Defence has always been a major priority for the UK, US, France and others.

FacebookPhotos · 24/02/2022 18:41

Tanith, the site of the old reactor (the one that went into meltdown) is too unsafe to set foot on. It is being dismantled remotely. But that isn’t the same across the whole Chernobyl area.

I don’t really understand this and I’d like to. Is this to do with the Huawei hoohar recently? Do China have possible control of our 5G network and if so how much of an issue is that likely to be.

I agree this is likely to be a dirty war with tactics we haven’t seen before which could impact is all.

HillsBesideTheSea · 24/02/2022 18:44

In terms of pakistan russia? Unfortunately i was only half listening to the news, and the interviews are not being replayed due to the fast moving nature of the situation. My retrospective overwhelming impression was that they were ignoring the Ukraine situation, that some of the language on the arrival of pakistan pm was out of place based on the actions of Russia. And the dynamics worthy of looking at as part of a bigger picture of what russia/pakistan is hoping to gain from the situation. I am unaware of the role of russia in the pakistan /india/region of the world and that understanding the situation might make more sense of the meeting and its go ahead in the current unfolding events. Apparently it is a 2 day visit

CovidCorvid · 24/02/2022 18:44

Is Poland opening the borders for refugees?

Itsalmostanaccessory · 24/02/2022 18:45

@Tanith

You can go on holiday in the Chernobyl exclusion zone.
