I don't accept twitter links they can be fake, I would prefer links to quality confirmation. Otherwise it is fake news. Farage will be rightly outraged as much as anyone else.

It's his own Twitter account, blue tick and all. And he's not saying anything he hasn't said before.
Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 14:47

Oh a blue tick thats great! That will mean it is totally legit Confused

Notonthestairs · 24/02/2022 14:47

Ah. Now I see. No wonder you don't like Russian money being mentioned @Keepyourheadscrewedon

The tweet is widely reported online - check it out.

Interesting so once again Farage and Corbyn on the same side!

But this is exactly Farage's thinking. He is as much an imperialist as Putin. Just with significantly less power and money.
Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 14:53

I have no idea why anyone would be careful given the information/fake Russian news war that is raging right now....how strange for you not to have noticed Confused

dreamingbohemian · 24/02/2022 14:59

How is it fake news for Farage's official account to tweet something that Farage has been saying for years?

Obviously we should all be careful with what we read but 'I refuse to read anything on Twitter because it's all fake' is a bit much.

@Alexandra2001

Oh do one they have invaded a sovereign nation without provocation and have lied about it for weeks. Babies and children are going to die

TBF we did invade Iraq without provocation, lied about it and killed 100s of 1000s of civilians inc babies and children, then caused an on going civil war which then spread to Syria, killing 100s of 1000s more.

Sadly, this is so true.
jacketsatdawn · 24/02/2022 15:15

Putin has confirmed that he went into Ukraine to defend Russian people pursuant to Article 51 part 7 of the UN charter which reads:

“Nothing in the present Charter shall impair the inherent right of individual or collective self-defence if an armed attack occurs against a Member of the United Nations, until the Security Council has taken measures necessary to maintain international peace and security"

Russia has said it wishes to stick with international law and so presumably the next stage is for the UN to talk to Russia with a view to it taking measure to maintain international peace and security with Russia's cooperation?!

Damnloginpopup · 24/02/2022 15:16

@Thebestwaytoscareatory

This is a mess of our own (well NATO's) making. Russia has been raising concerns about NATO expansion for decades. We were given a warning this would happen in 2014 when pro-western groups overthrew the democratically elected pro-russian government and Russia immediately moved to annex the Crimea and protect their black sea fleet. No one in the West seemed to care much about democracy then as it suited us to have leaders aligned with the West in power, but we knew from then on in there was no way Russia would allow NATO on their doorstep.

And you can argue that a country should be allowed to join up to an organisation if they want to, but that's not reality. Imagine the roles were reversed and Russia created an organisation specifically designed for containing USA and UK aggression. What do you think would happen if the likes of Iran, Saudi Arabia, or Turkey tried to join that, let alone a France or Mexico? We'd be raining hellfire on them before the ink was dry. Leaders from NATO and had the chance to avoid this outcome but didn't want too and now as per usual innocent people will pay with their lives.

Correct.

Interesting breaking news that Ukraine have shot down many fighter jets, so it looks like they are holding most areas. This is very promising. It may be that Russia will not find it so easy after all.....I am praying so much for the people of Ukraine.

ZoeCM · 24/02/2022 15:18

@Keepyourheadscrewedon

No one gives a shiny shit about oligarch money vera your post is very very offensive - we care about the people losing their lives right now in Ukraine. Innocent people that have nothing to deserve this despicable action.
How on Earth is Vera's post offensive? It's true! You can't separate this invasion from the political context.

Whilst I'd love to believe this. Russia's military power is far, far greater than this.

He's watching the western worlds reactions and it's all "more sanctions" he doesn't give a shit about sanctions otherwise it wouldn't have got this far. This man has a deep, burning long lived agenda, the west in his view is weak.

Norgie · 24/02/2022 15:26

Vera's post isn't in the least offensive. She made a valid point.

Apparently putin has cancer and parkinsons

Bin this in with "Hitler has one ball"

even if he does have either or both of those things, neither are necessarily immediately terminal
Damnloginpopup · 24/02/2022 15:35

NATO has no mandate as yet and no means to counter this. Nowhere to deploy naval power, no means to achieve air superiority and no time or territory to amass the necessary manpower and logistics for adequate land forces. That only leaves a non-tactical nuclear response which won't happen as it wil only be considered as retaliatory and will assure mutual destruction. Short of supplying a limited amount of equipment there's nothing that can really be done in terms of a military response. NATO, and the UN are outflanked. Russia is a nation of chess players and this is check. Ukraine is a tough, brave nation but it's only a matter of time until check mate. As far as I can tell the only possible way they can stop Russia is to draw them into the cities and have them destroyed around them, fighting from solid defence and grinding down the attacking force. Stop, but not defeat, at the expense of their population. Gidt forbid we see another Stalingrad in Ukraine.

All outcomes are bleak, as are the events of this day, but there is no 'best case' scenario for Ukraine and only worst case scenarios for the rest of Europe.

?

There is fairly credible footage/info of one or two Russian helicopters being shot down by ground fire/small surface to air missiles but I’ve not heard reports of lots of Russian fighter jets being lost.

FWIW from some of the TV footage broadcast earlier today it certainly looked like the Russians had gone after at least one Ukraine air defence radar with one of the v early strikes so I’m not sure how good a shape the rest of their air defence system or Air Force is in.

Damnloginpopup · 24/02/2022 15:36

Nine aircraft downed is fuck all compared to the numbers available. It makes a big difference, too, if it's before or after they strike.

I'm just reading reports of fighting around Chernobyl and the possibility that a nuclear waste facility has been destroyed.
Hope the latter is incorrect.

DenholmElliot · 24/02/2022 15:39

Apparently putin has cancer and parkinsons

I was watching his face quite closely and rather than parkinsons, I'd say it was the look of a man who has had cosmetic surgery and injectables. He's nearly 70 after all, with a young wife and kids - I certainly don't think he looks 70.

Tigersonvaseline · 24/02/2022 15:41

If it has it would likely be deliberate. It'd be unlikely to expose the waste though I'd imagine, but if it did it'd be contained within a relatively small area and not something akin to the day Chernobyl went bang.
