I mean, surely just tell him not to be a dick? Carry on as normal. This feels like not a problem. It's not a problem for you but for the children whose family are Russian it could be tough. Even more so should we enter into a war Sad

@Keepyourheadscrewedon

No one gives a shiny shit about oligarch money vera your post is very very offensive - we care about the people losing their lives right now in Ukraine. Innocent people that have nothing to deserve this despicable action.
I do give a shiny shit actually, and the post was not offensive in the slightest
itsgettingweird · 24/02/2022 14:04

@Cornettoninja

Corbyn and Trump are irrelevant now. Any speculation on what they could/couldn’t achieve is fantasy and nothing but divisive. It’s back to dragging up the diversionary bullshit of the last few years. If speculated Russian involvement is half of what is reported to be they’ve played an absolute blinder if you’re still banging on about it right now.
Well said

This is a mess of our own (well NATO's) making. Russia has been raising concerns about NATO expansion for decades. We were given a warning this would happen in 2014 when pro-western groups overthrew the democratically elected pro-russian government and Russia immediately moved to annex the Crimea and protect their black sea fleet. No one in the West seemed to care much about democracy then as it suited us to have leaders aligned with the West in power, but we knew from then on in there was no way Russia would allow NATO on their doorstep.

And you can argue that a country should be allowed to join up to an organisation if they want to, but that's not reality. Imagine the roles were reversed and Russia created an organisation specifically designed for containing USA and UK aggression. What do you think would happen if the likes of Iran, Saudi Arabia, or Turkey tried to join that, let alone a France or Mexico? We'd be raining hellfire on them before the ink was dry. Leaders from NATO and had the chance to avoid this outcome but didn't want too and now as per usual innocent people will pay with their lives.

Oh do one they have invaded a sovereign nation without provocation and have lied about it for weeks. Babies and children are going to die.
Tigersonvaseline · 24/02/2022 14:10

I'm definitely thinking something bigger worked out here...behind the scenes... who else side's with Russia? China? Syria?

SemperIdem · 24/02/2022 14:13

@Tigersonvaseline North Korea is likely

Actually many countries do, Russia is a huge exporter of commodities & has signed eco and military deals with some of Africa's largest countries.

Easy to view this purely in european terms.

Snakeplisskensmum · 24/02/2022 14:15

My LinkedIn feed is devastating today...colleagues in Ukraine posting of their fears and colleagues in Russia expressing utter disbelief and disgust at Putin's actions. Normal people in Russia do not want this.

TBF we did invade Iraq without provocation, lied about it and killed 100s of 1000s of civilians inc babies and children, then caused an on going civil war which then spread to Syria, killing 100s of 1000s more.

Anoooshka · 24/02/2022 14:20

@Roundeartheratchriatmas

I wouldn’t be surprised if the west have been trying to assassinate him for years.
Yup. Why do you think Putin was sat at one end of that huge table during recent "negotiations"? He's afraid of someone using the same KGB-style tactics they used in the West (Skripal etc) to kill him. Someone needs to take him out, but I doubt they'll be able to get close to him.

I think you meant to say, "in 2014 when pro-democracy groups overthrew the undemocratically elected puppet government".
Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 14:24

That has been our experience as well.

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 14:26

Perhaps his wife? Surely she can't actually support this lunacy. I think Putin needs to be very afraid, he did not appear to have anything like full support from his cabinet.

Notonthestairs · 24/02/2022 14:26

Farage is busy blaming the EU & NATO too.

Ukraine was never going to be able to join NATO without being able to secure its own borders which it can not do whilst the Donbas region is in (Russian sponsored) turmoil. It was in effect disqualified from joining.

Putin has manufactured reasons to invade.

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 14:27

You need to post a link to that claim.

veevee04 · 24/02/2022 14:34

I hope a disgruntled official has access to some novichok to take him out. I fear this is the only way to stop this.

@Libertybear80 How tacky to crowbar in your own bugbear here. Shameful.
