Reach
Good choice!
BertieBotts · 12/02/2022 19:40

I don't always use the same word, but I use dream quite a lot, or moist.

Today I started with wound.

PPCD · 12/02/2022 19:41

Someone told me adieu is a good first word as you clear most of the vowels.

I don't use the same first word each time though. More fun that way.

BertieBotts · 12/02/2022 19:41

Vowels are fine but there aren't that many of them so it doesn't actually help to get them eliminated first. Common letters like s, t, r, m, n, d are actually quite useful in themselves and having a mix of vowels and consonants means you're more likely to get a good spread of hits in the first or second round.

@larkstar

I think far too much is made of the starting word - I dream up a different one every time - frankly - it's a bit boring - I've said the day I fail to get it I will stop doing it. I used to use words with 2 vowels and try and use more vowels in the next attempt but the more I've done it the more I think I'm better off including scrabble letters with values of 3 or 4 in the words - if they are in the words then it seems to more quickly narrow down the possibilities - words like ?ea?? with just a couple of vowels often have a lot of possibilities compared to words like ?ca?? so instead of PILOT or LEMON I'll start with words with one vowel like WATCH or STRIP or FRUMP
Exactly this! Vowels are not as helpful as you would at first think.
Deadringer · 12/02/2022 19:46

Pears. My dd is good at wordle but she does it differently to me. She puts in her first word, then on the second line she puts in another word, not using any of the letters that she got right in the first one iykwim, thereby maximising the letters she finds. She nearly always gets it on the 3rd go, while my average is 4.
