I use a different starting word every day. It's always completely random. Today was False.

Tears - if S matches then nails - and failing that I do a combination of mould and/or skirt. Piano is a good one, might add that to the order somehow!

I think far too much is made of the starting word - I dream up a different one every time - frankly - it's a bit boring - I've said the day I fail to get it I will stop doing it. I used to use words with 2 vowels and try and use more vowels in the next attempt but the more I've done it the more I think I'm better off including scrabble letters with values of 3 or 4 in the words - if they are in the words then it seems to more quickly narrow down the possibilities - words like ?ea?? with just a couple of vowels often have a lot of possibilities compared to words like ?ca?? so instead of PILOT or LEMON I'll start with words with one vowel like WATCH or STRIP or FRUMP
